2016 QB desktop pro won't start. It was ok 2 weeks ago.

My 2016 Quickbooks Desktop Pro has been very reliable on my Windows 10 laptop. I used it two weeks ago. Today, I got a warning about the TLS 1.2 and successfully ran that test, but it would not open even when I restarted my machine. I cannot run the upgrade without opening QB. It only shows the "circle" with the running dots, then times out without opening. Please help. I have invoices to send. Thanks.

Hello, @CL11.

There can be many reasons as to why your company file isn't opening, but not to worry, I'm here to help. First, let's try to run the Quick Fix tool. This will help fix common errors that occur when opening the file. I'll provide the steps below:

  1. Download the QuickBooks Tool Hub file and save it where you can easily find it.
  2. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  3. Follow the onscreen steps to install the tool tub, then accept the terms and conditions.
  4. After the install completes, double-click the icon on your Desktop to open the tool hub.
  5. In the tool hub, choose Program Problems.
  6. Press Quick Fix my Program and start your QuickBooks Desktop.
  7. Open your data file.

Now you can access your company file and get back to business. However, if you continue to hit a bump in the road, you can check out this article: QuickBooks Desktop doesn't start or won't open.

I'm only a hop, skip, and jump away if you have any other questions. Best wishes!

@CL11

We always oppose our clients running their unsupported QB version (i.e 2016 or older) on supporting Windows OS (i.e Win 8.1/10). Everytime you are updating your Windows, you will put the QB in risk. Run the troubleshoot as mentioned by Anna S. If the error still persists, install the trial license of Pro 2020 to isolate the issue.
