Accounts/Items overwritten after using : symbol DIRECTLY after update to V20.0.10 R11.1

We have ALWAYS been able to type this way and after updating to the latest release of QB 2021 for Mac we are now unable to use QB as before. It is hindering workflow as we have to resort to using the mouse, scrolling through items, and then clicking.

Previously I could type: GENERAL:HOOK-UP

Now as soon as I type GENERAL: and start to type HOOK-UP it takes away GENERAL and tries to find a basic HOOK-UP item. This is frustrating.

We are also having this issue under "class" area when writing checks/bills/etc. where we can only type the FIRST LETTER. If we type any more letters it overwrites the whole thing and looks for something that starts with "X" instead of "A".

What happened? Is this a bug??

Thanks for being part of the QuickBooks family, @Amanda. I’m here to help you get past the issue you're getting with the auto-fill behavior on your item names.

I appreciate you updating your QuickBooks. Since you’re having issues with the item or account names, you’ll want to uncheck the Quickfill option in Preferences to stop the autofill function.

Once done, type the items, accounts, and class again to see if it still does the same thing. If the issue persists, let’s perform some troubleshooting steps to scan your company files for errors or data damage.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to the File  menu, then select Utilities.
  2. Click Verify Data, then tap OK.

After that, follow these steps to fix any errors or data damage that's found:

  1. Navigate to the File menu again, then select Utilities.
  2. Click Rebuild Data, then press OK.
  3. QuickBooks will ask to make a backup before rebuilding your company file, select OK.
  4. Once done, hit OK.

For other troubleshooting steps to data issues and errors, feel free to check out this article: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop for MAC.

For more troubleshooting steps for the QuickBooks for Mac version, you can refer to this article: Additional data damage troubleshooting for Mac.

Please leave me a comment below if you need more help with the process or an update about how things go. I’ll be here to help you. Stay safe.

Accounts/Items overwritten after using : symbol DIRECTLY after update to V20.0.10 R11.1

I'm getting frustrated here. I have performed the above actions and while it works for the Administrator account (via the company file when multiuser mode is NOT enabled on the server computer running MacOS Monterey). All other users are still having the problem when multiuser mode is turned back on with file sharing (using their Macs on MacOS Ventura). They are unable to change the preferences for Quick Fill on their account when logged in to the file because the permissions will not allow them.

is there a way to downgrade to the previous version of QB? There is clearly is bug with the new

Apologies, I've further gone through to inspect things.

These issues are ONLY occurring on the Macbooks that are running the new Ventura OS. So this seems to be an issue with Quickbooks and Ventura. The new update that I perform mentioned support for Ventura which is the ONLY reason we updated QB.

Kindly point me in the right direction to solve this issue. Updating QB has not only required file changes to all company files but now has corrupt data after data verification. This should not have been an issue to begin with. We will be sure to not update so quickly in the future until QB has gotten through bug testing completely.

Short screen recording of what is happening on the devices running Ventura OS: https://i.gyazo.com/61d148ee7d052dda7ed48db3453ed7c1.mp4

You can see where as typing "insurance" and then inputting ":" the whole thing is highlighted before you can start typing your next word so it clears out and looks for something else. You can SOMETIMES type "insurance:" and then immediately start typing "insurance:" again (repeating step) in order to avoid whats happening. This is a mess. This issue cannot be replicated on the devices using Monterey OS.

Accounts/Items overwritten after using : symbol DIRECTLY after update to V20.0.10 R11.1

Amanda - I have the same problem with the categories loading incorrectly. I have done the verify and the rebuild multiple times. It sometimes fixes it temporarily, but always comes back. The only way to enter categories is to open the pulldown and scroll to select it. Very frustrating. This worked great before.

I don't think the problem is isolated to MacBooks and Ventura. I am on a Mac Mini running Monterey 12.6. I also updated to QBD for Mac 2023 and the problem is still there.

Good luck fixing... please let me know if you find a fix.  Thanks.
