Adjust print alignment for 1099-NEC

I cannot figure out how to adjust the print alignment for a 1099-NEC within QBO.  I've read and applied everything I can find without any improvement, including the Print Setup within Print Checks.  Please advise.

Adjust print alignment for 1099-NEC

Welcome to the Community space, @Nicole73.

I recognize the importance of adjusting the print alignment of the 1099 and when printing checks within QuickBooks Online (QBO). I'll be sharing some insights about it.

Intuit has updated the filings of the 1099. The changes made are the 1099 print settings were removed, and the adjustment of print alignment for 1099s through browser settings.

With regards to the print setup in printing checks, we have an ongoing investigation about the check alignment that won't change when printing checks in QBO.

Moreover, to ensure you'll get an update about the resolution status, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. This way, they can add your company file to the list of affected users.

To reach them, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Click the Help button.
  3. In the QuickBooks Assistance chat box, select Talk to a human and or tap the Contact Us button at the bottom.
  4. Then, type in your reason for contacting us in the What can we help you with? Box and click Continue.
  5. From there, choose a way to connect with us; either to Chat with us, get a Callback, or call our support line directly by getting our Phone number.

Moreover, I'm adding these helpful articles as your reference in setting up your print settings and how to track your payables in QuickBooks:

Feel free to return to this post if you have other concerns regarding printing checks and 1099 in QBO. I'll be here to lend a helping hand. Keep safe!

Adjust print alignment for 1099-NEC

I have quick books online.

Your message is telling me that quickbooks REMOVED the ability to adjust printing for 1099s!

I have now wasted 3 hours following intuit directions for alignment (only options are aligning checks or W2). NONE of your suggestions work.

Seriously. This is unacceptable to not have an alignment option.

Now what?!

I hear your sentiments, @kathymast.

As per checking, there are many changes to the 1099 process for tax year 2023, which includes the unavailability of print settings in QuickBooks Online (QBO). I understand how this option is convenient for you when printing 1099 forms. Don't worry. I'll help you relay your valuable insight to our software engineers, so they can review your suggestion and consider bringing it back in our future product updates. To do that:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Enter your recommendations, then click Next.

Moreover, you can run 1099 reports in QBO to identify who needs 1099s and display their payment totals.

Keep me updated on your 1099 concerns by leaving a reply below. I'm available 24/7 in the Community to assist you further.

@kathymast

Agreed!  Glad to know that I'm not the only one experiencing alignment issues.  I wasted several hours as well, ended up taping the document to another piece of paper to offset the misalignment and carefully feed through the printer.  Then only to realize, QBO doesn't give you the option to print the 1096!  For those small businesses who are eligible to file paper 1099's and trying to minimize expenses, this is an incomplete service from QBO.  It's a total racket and feels intentional...pushing you into a situation where you resort to paying QB to e-file the 1099's or add additional subscriptions such as QB Payroll or QB Contractors that include unlimited 1099 e-filing. Look into the free 1099 e-filing option through the IRS' IRIS.  Unfortunately, it can take 45 days to be issued a TCC and that would likely be after the 1/31/24 1099 deadline.  I'll bet set up for next year, I guess.

JaeAnn,

Thank you of your reply.

However, giving feedback to QB does NOT solve my problem.

When selecting the "print 1099" in QB, it gives direction on how to check and fix alignment. These directions are COMPLETELY USELESS because it only applies to alignment of printing checks. 3 hours later after trying 2 different browsers to use the QB directions did I realize that the QB online platform has NOTHING to allow alignment and when you are using IRS forms, alignment is important. Therefore I cannot print my forms.

I will be contacting QB tmrw and asking for a refund of my January subscription as QB REMOVED the 1099 alignment feature. (I'm sure they did this to 'force' us to pay for your efiling of 1099s)

To say I am angry and frustrated in an understatement. Completely unsatisfactory situation.

@Nicole73

100% agree. This is a completely unacceptable situation.

I 'love' how QB keeps raising my price, and removing critical features.

Wasted my day dealing with this and I still don't have the forms completed.

QuickBooks Online for 1099s does not align for me either.

Tried 2 browsers - Edge and Chrome.

Tried direct printing 1099s and also to PDF then printing 1099s.

Neither test lined up correctly. I should not have to DL a 3rd browser.

Using same layout as last years forms as forms are not year specific anymore. Last years aligned. This year it does not.

3 years ago they changed the spacing for the deposits. The Intuit ordered deposit slip still print on 2 pages after increasing the spacing between the lines. Plus the constant resetting of reports in the new layout is frustrating. Used to be able to pull a whole year of customer deposits report and scroll down fast. Now the new reports you scroll down wait for it to reload and repeat about 10 times. Done with giving feedback with nothing ever fixed.

I don't expect this to be corrected either.

I have used QB for 18 years and always printed 1099s myself as I am a very small business.

This year, however, QB removed the ability to align the 1099 forms.... I followed all of their directions to no avail and then went on this forum to find out from a QB expert that they actually removed this alignment feature. 4 hours later I still did not have my few 1099s printed.

I called customer service regarding this problem. They are not able to (or willing) to fix this issue - after I wasted another 1 hour on the phone with them. I am completely disgusted with this platform and their response. The supervisor i spoke with agreed to refund the January service fee due to the fact that their platform cannot do what they say it will do......Then, 1 week later i call QB back AGAIN as no credit was applied. 1 more hour on the phone only to receive an email from QB that due to their 'policy on technical problems' they will NOT be refunding my service fee for January.

Honestly their lack of care for their client who have to use this function is unacceptable to me. I am convinced they pulled the alignment feature to force us all  to use their and pay for their online filing.

Good luck.

(stepping off my soapbox now)

Kathy

Agree that is why the adjusting the printing alignment was removed.

I did end up paying for the e-file. I would have not bought forms if I knew the printing myself was not going to work. The IRS did change to combined 10 forms or more must be e-filed - so wondering if that had something to do with the removal of that option.

Intuit Instructions also say Intuit will send the 1099s to the recipients. Will see.

Well I did purchase 1099 forms AND had to also pay QB to file.

It is WRONG by QB to remove this feature.

Shameful, actually.

Another BS 'improvement' from Intuit much like their 'Modern Look' reports. I bought forms before I realized they took away the option to adjust the printing - another change for no good reason and so I used Acrobat Pro to edit a saved pdf of the 1099s. Luckily we only had a handful for 2023. Putting to option to adjust through Chrome is useless as their isn't the ability to do that through print settings.

Thanks for another needless waste of my morning QBO!! W*&$%#!

To follow up...issuing of a TCC to free file 1099's through IRS' IRIS, took only a few days, not the expected 45 days.   I didn't receive an email notification that it was complete.  Confirmation came by mail weeks later.  However, if you log back in, you can check the status of the TCC application and find the code sooner than later.
