Assembly Items in POS

I created an assembly item in POS in order to pre sell the item. At the time, I did not know the components of the assembly. I sold some of them which gives me a negative quantity on hand. Now, I know what the components are of the assembly, however I cannot change the quantity of the items in the assembly from the default of 1. How do I fix this to show the assembly quantities and account for the sales? Thank you.

Assembly Items in POS

Let's create an adjustment memo to correct this, quiltnotes.

Doing an adjustment memo corrects the inventory records due to incorrect data entry. It will change both the quantity and cost of an item with incorrect value.

Here's how:

  1. Select New Quantity Memo or New Cost Memo from the Inventory menu.
  2. Enter the memo Reason using the following: Qty Adj- Rectify the On-Hand Quantity of an item. Cost Adj- Rectify the Cost of an item.
  3. Select the items to be adjusted from the Enter Item drop-down.
  4. Apply the Quantity or Cost.
  5. Select Save Only or Save & Print.

I recommend consulting your accountant before doing this. Make sure to check with them before you upload this to the software.

Please let me know if you have other concerns related to assembly items.

Assembly Items in POS

In Qb POS, you can edit the assembly item to change the qty of the component items.

Pull up the item in the items list, and click Assembly in the right pane preview, then edit assembly.

That will allow you to change the items going forward.

You cannot however, change the ones already sold.

Transaction in QB POS are like a instant snap shot. Once the picture is taken, you cant change it. it is pretty much carved in stone.

You could correct the item, and do an exchange on the sales to get the inventory corrected. You can override the date on the exchange to make it the same day the original sale was done, so, exchange the old assembly for the new one..

As always, make a backup prior to doing anything. That way if things go wrong, you can restore the backup and you are no worse than you are now.
