Bill of Materials

We are wondering if Quickbooks is able to build a Bill of Materials from Inventory Items?

If so, can you tell me how I might see an example and which version(s) have this so we can gt the correct one?

We are going to be doing light manufacturing and need this feature.

Thank you!

Mike

QB Online doesn't provide the assembly feature. You need to have a 3rd party manufacturing app to integrate with QBO. Another option, you may consider using QB Desktop. If you don't mind to use the trial version, you can use it for good if required.

Bill of Materials

I understand that you're looking for information about the ability of QuickBooks to build a Bill of Materials from Inventory items, Mike.

QuickBooks does offer the capability to create a Bill of Materials (BOM) using Inventory Items. This feature allows you to track the components and quantities needed to assemble a finished product. However, this is only available in QuickBooks Desktop Premier, Enterprise, or Accountant.

In the meantime, we can create a bundle in QuickBooks Online. This way, you can group products and services. To proceed, you need to ensure the inventory is turned on.

Here's how:

  1. Navigate to the Gear icon.
  2. Select the Company settings.
  3. Choose Sales and click Products and Services.
  4. Select Track inventory quantity on hand.
  5. Lastly, click Save and Done

For detailed instructions on how to add the bundle, please refer to this article: QBO inventory bundles.

Otherwise, you can look and explore for third-party app that may better suit your needs by visiting the QuickBooks App Store. You can also navigate to the Apps menu in your QBO account and browse an application.

Lastly, let me provide you with this article that explains how to view your top-selling items, current inventory, and the cost of goods: Use reports to see your sales and inventory status.

I hope this information helps you in your search for the right QuickBooks version and the successful implementation of the Bill of Materials feature for your light manufacturing needs. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to ask.

a. Place Purchase Orders for Invnetory Items.

b. Receive the the Orders  and set them up  for payables.

c. Enter Supplier informtion adn enter their invoices for payment.

d. Build bills of materials using the invnetory items showng the Finished item and all of it's components.

e, Enter Sales of the finished goods.

f. Ender Customer infomration.

g. Keep a chart of Accounts for credit / debit  accounts.

h. Be able to print reports on all of the above activities.

And, can all of  these be installed on our Network Server to allow users to login?

Thanks!

Mike

@mmitsch

If you only need to have up to 5 users, QB Desktop Premier Plus is enough. For 10 users, you have to use QB Desktop Accountant or Enterprise. You should install the trial version of QB Desktop 2024 Enterprise.

If you decide to use QB Desktop 2024 Enterprise, you can buy the license through selected partners to get a perpetual discount for renewal.
