Hi –
Can you add the “Create A Copy” button / function on the Build Assembly (Work Order) screen like it’s shown on the Purchase Order screen and Sales Order screen?
(Screenshots attached.)
Why? This will save us lots of time from having to re-create work orders. This will be especially helpful when we have a work order that pulls parts from more than one site.
Example:
For example, let’s say we have a build for Item X that has 50 parts.
Let’s say the 20 of those parts come from Site A and the other 30 parts come from Site B. It takes so much time going line by line to update site on each line. (If the main location at the top of the screen is Site A, I know we can have all lines pre-populate below with Site A, however we still need manually adjust the 30 lines that go with Site B.)
If we had the “Create A Copy” function for a build assembly, next time we make Item X, we wouldn’t have to re-do all that work listing the sites. By using the copy function, it would copy that build and settings.
If we have 100 builds like Item X, you can see that it takes some time to get those entered into QuickBooks. That’s why a “Create A Copy” function would really help cut down that time and be much more efficient!
QB Community, if you feel this would be helpful to you too, please reply and /or put a “cheer” vote.
The more support for a request, the more likely it will be implemented. Thank you.
That's really helpful. Thank you!
Thank you for the detailed post, Dav and Anhtran999.

Hi QuickBooks -
Can you please submit this request to your QuickBooks Development Team?
When will QuickBooks be making this software improvement?
Also, based on your submitting feedback instructions within QuickBooks, how can we send the QuickBooks Development Team images of the improvement requests? Is there an email address where we can send attachments to the QB Development Team?
Hi there, @Dav.
I'll explain further how you can send product suggestions in a specific way in QuickBooks Desktop.
Since we are unable to attach a screenshot in the Feedback field, you may select specific topics as a workaround to find the exact product suggestion that you require. Let us now follow the steps outlined by my colleague above for submitting Feedback:
3.Then, start discussing the topic.
4. Lastly, hit the Send Feedback button.
Furthermore, there is no set time or date for which this option is available. However, sending an email for attachments and feedback directly to our QuickBooks Development team is currently unavailable at this time.
If you need help managing your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), you can always visit our Help articles page. There, you can read some of our excellent resources.
Please let me know if you have more questions regarding the process. I'll be right here to help you out again. Take care.
Hi -
How do I send the QuickBooks Development Team images related to my requests? Is there an email address?
Images and photos are very important when explaining to QuickBooks problems and solutions.
As it's said, "a picture is worth a thousand words".
Allow me to share a few information when sending images for your requests, Dav.
For now, you'll have to send requests from the feedback channel of your QuickBooks product since we don't have a specific email address for this. As mentioned by @ChristineJoieR, you may select specific topics as a workaround to find the exact product suggestion that you require. Also under the Here's my suggestion box, you can vividly describe the product on how you want it to happen. I'm sure our development team will understand clearly on what you'll want to explain. All requests will undergo series of test before it's being implemented.
Furthermore, you may want to start setting up your inventory in QuickBooks Desktop. I have a short video that you can check out for more information: How To Set Up Inventory In QuickBooks Desktop.
Reach out to us if you have any questions about the build assembly or inventory feature . We're always here to help.
Hi QuickBooks Team -
Can you submit my request with the images to the QuickBooks software development team?
Thanks for getting back, @Dav.
Let me assist you further regarding sending feedback to our product development team.
Since I will not be able to personally submit the images on my end. Here’s what we can do instead as a workaround, you can post your concern again here in the Community together with the snapshots or images that you are referring to.
Once done, follow the steps outlined by my colleague, ChristineJoieR, and add the link of your new post where the images are attached. That way, our Development Team can check the link and view the images.
If you have further concerns with sales transactions, you can always have us here in the Community. Have a good one!
Yes, this would be REALLY helpful!
Hi QuickBooks Team -
Do you know of any status updates on this request?
Hi there, @Dav.
I appreciate your interest in having the option to Create a Copy in the Build Assembly window. However, this is still unavailable. Currently, we're unable to provide a specific time frame for when this will be implemented in QuickBooks Desktop.
If you haven't, please submit a feature request in the Feedback section of QuickBooks to help us enhance our services and better meet our user's needs. Here's how:
We constantly take your suggestions into account while making product updates. The more requests this gets, the more likely it'll be part of future enhancements.
Also, we have different reports in QBDT that you can generate based on your preference to help you manage your business:
You can post anytime if you have more questions about handling inventory in QBDT. Please know the Community has your back. Keep safe always.
Hi QuickBooks -
Can you please implement this idea and have a "Copy" button for creating Build Assemblies? Are there any status updates on when this feature will be available?
This copy function would save a ton of time when the line items for a build assembly are assigned to different inventory sites.
We hear your suggestions and recognize your need for the feature, Dav. I have a way on how you can get this done.
Customer suggestions are opportunities to improve various feature of our products to give a great experience. Therefore valuable feedback will be forwarded and reviewed by our Product Development team. You can send a request to let know how this is useful for your business. To do so, follow the steps provided below:
Furthermore, QuickBooks gives you tons of report that offer information about inventory, financial and sales transactions. You can learn how to customize the data using adding or deleting of column. Take a look and check out this article for reference: Customize Reports in QuickBooks Desktop.
I'm always one post away if you have any other questions about inventory or creating build assemblies. Have a great day ahead!
