Join nowOk, I am posting this question again hoping someone who can actually offer a solution will respond.
Here are the particulars:
1. I am using Enterprise 18.0, but have tried updating the file and using 19.0 and 20.0, always getting the same result,
2. File is about 580000KBs,
3. Client has no inventory,
4. All errors are reported as rectified by the Rebuild Data utility,
5. I tried condensing one year at a time. This seem to work until I viewed a trial balance and discovered that the balances for the year I need (2017) bore no resembelence to the original trail balance before I condensed,
6. The program goes through the entire condensing process. After all of the progress screens have passed, the program just sits for a bit, and then I get a message that says the process cannot be completed and my original data has been restored. Then the programs restarts. Then to program says it encountered an error and must close,
7. I tried to create a period copy for the period I need. Same result,
8. I spent countless hours with support. They did not offer any solutions that worked,
9. I have read and reread the QB support papers and questions. None of the solutions worked,
10. I believe that the QB condense utility doesn't like my file for some reason.
Please do not reiterate the old, tired solutions. I have tried them all. None were successful.
Is there a maximum file size after which the QB condense utility will not work?
Is there a third party utility that will do that which QB cannot do?
Is there a manual work around that will allow me to cull the year I need from the data file?
Is it possible to set up a new company and export only the year I need with beginning balances and the lists and such that I need?
I do not want the data to be provided to me in an Excel spreadsheet. But I am not adverse to using an Excel download to import that data into a new company, if that can be done.
I am not new to QB.

We have had a few clients similar to your case. We had them to purchase a 3rd party supercondense service. It was an advanced version of the Condense feature available in QuickBooks. They got a fully usable data file with a reduced file size and all historical data.
