Buy nowI recently migrated from desktop to Quickbooks Online Simple Start.
I just went to begin entering transactions and do not see a place to select my classes.
Then I looked at some of my older transactions that I migrated into my online version and I do not see my classes. I own a real estate business and each house I add as a class. I have a Rental Category and a Sale Category. Every expense related to a house is assigned the appropriate class.
Can someone advise -
1. Why did the classes not migrate with everything else/how can this be fixed
2. I saw how to turn on classes in an article, however I do not see that option
Thank you for your assistance. Jenny
The class feature is only available in QBO Plus and Advanced.
I'll elaborate on some details about classes so you'll be guided on how you can manage your subscription, RealInvestor.
Classes should migrate from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online (QBO). You only have to make sure that you're using the Plus and Advanced QBO versions to access the feature. You can upgrade your subscription if there's a need to use the feature. To do so, follow the detailed steps provided below:

Thank you! I was afraid of that.
Thank you! I guess I will have to upgrade.
Once I upgrade, how can I get the classes for the data I migrated to show up?
Thanks for getting back with the Community, RealInvestor.
To get your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) class list to show up in QuickBooks Online (QBO), you'll need to move your data from QBDT to QBO. You have 60 days from the time you create your QBO account to migrate data into it from QBDT. Initially, you'll want to get your desktop file ready before performing the data migration.
It's recommended that you confirm your company file isn't too be to export and review our list of what does and doesn't move to QBO.
An important step will be making sure QBDT is up-to-date with its latest release.
Here's how:
You'll also want to confirm your company file's Total Targets is less than 750,000. You can do so by pressing Ctrl + Q on the keyboard while in QBDT. If your file exceeds our target limit of 750k, it can't be converted to QBO. The only option in such a case to transfer data would be to import lists and balances into QBO, or start fresh.
Next, it's best to print a copy of your Sales Tax Liability report. This will be important for entering adjustment entries after the move:
Once you're prepared, you can begin moving your QBDT file to QBO. If your QBDT version is 2018 or older, you'll need to use our online tool.
Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have an awesome Tuesday!
I have already migrated to the Online Simple version but was not aware it did not include classes. Are you stating that to upgrade from Simple plan to Advance, I will have to do the migration from desktop again?
Thanks!
Yes, you're right, @RealInvestor. The Class feature is only available in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Plus and Advanced. We can turn on the feature by going to the Advanced tab, then opening the Categories section.
When you upgrade your plan, it will show you the cost. Check this article to help you change it: Upgrade or downgrade your QuickBooks Online subscription.
Once upgraded, we can purge your account to delete all the data entered into the company (this can't be undone, however). Then, migrate the data again from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QBO.
To purge the data, follow the steps listed below:
To export the data:

I'm right here if you need further help to migrate data in QuickBooks. I'm more than willing to lend you a hand. Have a wonderful day.
Honestly, this is very frustrating. I went through many days of going through what I was told to do and it did not work. It did not work because I was told to use one upgrade version and ended up support stated it was the wrong one. I finally got migrating to the SImple Plan and only when support got online with me and walked me through it.
I was never told that classes were not included. So here I am.
Now, you are saying I have to go through the entire process again. That is something I did not want to hear. Can support call me at [removed] to walk me through this to get it finally done so that I can catch up on all my records for the year?
Thanks

Have a great day ahead.
As I know, if you use the class feature in your QB Desktop file, the settings will not convert to QB Online Plus or Advanced. You will have to reset the class feature in your QBO account manually or purchase a third party service to convert your data with classes.
So, you believe that even if I remigrate it will not migrate the classes? I will need to manually add them or purchase a product to do so? Am I understanding you correctly? Thanks so much!
Yes
