Contact Support and ask Data Service to convert the file. Otherwise you have to purchase a 3rd party conversion service.

I can walk you through on how to convert a QuickBooks for Mac file to Windows, @clrcpas.

Let's begin by making sure to update QuickBooks for Mac to the latest release. Then ready your file by removing any memos longer than 50 characters or contain special characters like !@#$%^&*.

To find memos with special characters, follow these steps below:

  1. Go to the Reports menu and then select Custom Transaction Detail Report.
  2. From the Dates drop-down menu, choose All Dates.
  3. Double-click a transaction with a memo to open it.
  4. Delete the special characters from the memo field and click Save.
  5. Close the transaction and repeat the steps for all other transactions.
  6. Re-sort your lists.
  7. Lastly, run verify and rebuild on your company file. Go to the File menu and select Utilities. Next, select Verify Data.

Now, you can convert your company file. Here's how:

  1. Open your company file as the admin.
  2. Choose the File menu and click Export
  3. Select To QuickBooks for Windows.
  4. If prompted to verify before you back up, choose Verify.
  5. Name the file without special characters and choose the folder to save it in and then, click Save
  6. Enter and confirm your password and choose OK.
  7. Click OK on the confirmation window.
  8. Move the file to your Windows computer using a USB flash drive, cloud storage, or email if the file is small enough.
  9. Restore the file in QuickBooks for Windows.

For further details, you may check out this resource: Change company file from QuickBooks for Mac to Windows.

I've also added this article, in case you encounter an error when converting the file: Fix the error after company file conversion.

Don't hesitate to let me know if you have other concerns regarding managing your data with QuickBooks. I'll be here to always lend a helping hand. Stay safe and have a good day.

Hi, @clrcpas.

Hope you’re doing great. I wanted to see how everything is going about your concern in converting a QuickBooks for Mac file to Windows you had the other day. Was it resolved? Do you need any additional help or clarification? If you do, just let me know. I’d be happy to help you at any time.

Unfortunately, the Mac and its QB software are both gone, so there's no way to open much less save the file differently via the Mac.  I'm going to get Intuit Support to help me with conversion.
