Im looking do downgrade out Enterprise Desktop to either Premium or Pro. I contacted Intuit and was told that I would need to buy new program send data file to a third party and would hear back within 24 hours. I was then told that it would take probably 10 days of not being able to use quick books. Also since we use payroll maybe i might want to wait till after the 1st of the year and tax season if over..... I asked why would you warn me about this, does that mean there is no guarantee this will work? They said I cant even contact the data company with questions untill I buy and send over file.
Now I'm nervous and hesitating on if this can be done successfully? I found third party sites that say they can get it done within a day. I have searched the community page and find this same question asked many times and many solutions but not one person has said that they have used some one and it has worked successfully.
Welcome to the Community, RCleary.
I'd like to ask where you left off from downgrading your company file. You can try downloading the File Doctor using the Tool Hub and then browse through the file that you need to convert. After selecting your file and opening it, press Ctrl + A for the Advanced option. Then, select the Perform a certain task with a QuickBooks agent option. Enter your company admin's username and password. Follow the onscreen instruction by clicking Continue.
I still would recommend you from getting in touch with our Customer Support again in case you have questions during the process. You'll also want to run through our trial company files which will help you find out on what happens when your downgrade.
Let me know if you need further assistance. I'm here to back you up. Have a good one.

Control + A doesnt work.
Control+A doesnt work. Also the link is for enterprise, which I have and I need pro or premium
Thanks for getting back to us and for sharing additional information, @RCleary. Allow me to chime in and share insights about converting the QBDT file.
QuickBooks Desktop has company file limitations when using it to another product, version, or edition. For the time being, you can upgrade your Pro company files to Enterprise Solutions (ES), but you cannot downgrade ES company files in Pro. You can refer to this article for details: Company file compatibility with QuickBooks Desktop.
In case you want to purchase the QuickBooks Pro, you can manually transfer the data through an IIF file. To create a new company file, here's how:
Once done, you can refer to this article to know more about importing files using IIF: IIF Overview: import kit, sample files, and headers.
Also, you have an option to purchase a third-party app that allows you to convert your company file from Enterprise to Premium or Pro. Here's a link you can use to find any application you can use based on your needs: Apps for QuickBooks Desktop. You can find one by entering a few words in the Search address, say "Company File Converter".

So everything Quick books told me on the phone from their ES SAVERS department is incorrect?
I don't need to be down for 10 days and sending my company file anywhere to be done?
So is the steps the first QB response incorrect also?
So how do I know what you are telling me is the correct process?
I have a couple questions regarding what you said...
If not possible to go from ES to Pro or premium than how are their steps to do it? Are you just referring to the process I have to manually do it?
You refer to transferring the data through and IIF file. Does this not require any file converting? Does this transfer all of my information from my existing company file?
When you refer to a third party app for conversion, how does this differ from transferring an IIF? Wouldn't I still need to transfer the information from one program to another? So how would I accomplish this?
You have to understand my frustration because every person I have spoken to has given me different answers and different solutions with so many "if's" and "but's".
You may have 2 ways to downgrade your file from QB Desktop Enterprise to QB Desktop Pro/Premier:
1. Utilize a 3rd party migration tool, if you are not familiar with IIF

2. Purchase a 3rd party service.

Given that Intuit is sending you to a 3rd party, their turnaround time estimate doesn't mean much.
We offer same-day service to convert your company file from Enterprise to Premier / Pro. Our conversion service offers a complete conversion of all your data, so you can pick up right where you left off with no need to fix or complete anything. See BRC Enterprise to Pro/Premier Conversion Service for more details.
Hi RCleary,
I have been researching the downgrade of ES to Pro for a client of mine. Unfortunately you would have to use a 3rd party company to do the conversion. What I am frustrated about is the QuickBooks sales person pushed my client to purchase enterprise and they are a consulting company with no need for inventory or product sales tracking. They also cannot send an Accountants Copy for me to work with with my Accountants version of QuickBooks. My firm would have to now purchase the Enterprise version and we have no other clients that use that version. It is frustrating that the sales person pushed a product on my client that did not meet the needs of my client. I am warning all my clients to not purchase the ES version.
RCleary probably got things worked out as his post was from almost a year ago.
If your clients want to downgrade, they can do so using our BRC Enterprise to Pro/Premier Conversion Service with very little interruption because we can convert their data same-day, even on weekends.
Which QB Desktop year version is your client using?
Which QB Desktop Accountant year version do you have?
Can you please tell if you successfully moved from ES to pro/premier? I am in the same boat and am feeling very stuck and confused. I’m worried my accountant won’t be able to receive my files at year end if he doesn’t have Enterprise. Please let me know what you ended up doing and how it went. Thank you so much for the help

Hi there, @Perf36.
I'm here to help share insights about the conversion of your company data in QuickBooks Desktop while waiting for the results and updates from other users who got the same goal as you.
Migrating a company file created in QuickBooks Enterprise Suite to QuickBooks Pro or Premier is not possible. Kindly read and use this article to learn more about company file compatibility: Company File Limitations When Upgrading to Another Product, Version, or Edition in QuickBooks Deskto....
For now, let's consider using any of the third-party migration tools discussed in this thread. You may need to message them personally if you wish to use the tool.
I'm including this reference so you're able to use all the features and functions of QuickBooks: Help Articles in QuickBooks Desktop. Also, you're able to read subtopics that will describe how a feature is used and how to accomplish tasks related to its functions.
I've got you covered if you have other questions aside from migrating a company file in QuickBooks. Use the Reply option below and don't forget to include my name, @JonpriL, so that I can get back here and assist you. Take care always and stay safe!
We have the QuickBooks Accountant version going back at least 10 years. We have clients that do not upgrade every three years so we keep the older versions to be able to help them.
Hi Perf36,
My client used an outside third party software company that did the conversion back to from ES to QuickBooks Pro Plus 2022. I do not know who they used and I would not be able to recommend a company since I did not deal with them directly. However, I will say there were a few hiccups after the conversion but we have gotten those fixed. We are happy to be back to being able to get an Accountants Copy to work on each month.
Hello,
I'm trying to downgrade a QBD enterprises to QBD pro 2020. what app you recommend?
Hi there, Luly1.
Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community. I'll be sharing details on how downgrade works in QuickBooks Desktop. Then, ensure you'll be routed to the right site to look for a particular app that you can use.
QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Solution and Pro are two different versions with distinct features. Thus, downgrading from ES to Pro is currently unavailable to prevent compatibility issues.
On the other hand, we are unable to recommend any app that you can use to help you downgrade the two various versions in QBDT. However, you can visit our MarketPlace website to find another alternative option on how to achieve your goal.
Lastly, you may refer to this article to see details on how to upgrade your QBDT so you can use separate features that can benefit your business with improved money management: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Enterprise.
Please let me know if you have other concerns while utilizing QBDT. I'm just around to help, Luly1. Have a great day!
Use our BRC Enterprise to Pro/Premier Conversion Service to have us convert your data from Enterprise to Pro or Premier.
Click my profile name and you will find our website address to send a direct message. We can also help to obtain the one time license for QB Desktop 2021 or the subscription license for QB Desktop 2022/2023 if required.
So in the end we should recommend to anyone considering QBE to not purchase, since QB has not been able to do a conversion from QBE to QBP. Most accountants do not need QBE so files will not be compatible. I'm running into the same situation & wish I would have been warned ahead of time there would be no way to move from one version to another. My accountant is now unable to do our books for year end. Has ANYONE found a solve for this issue besides a 3rd party? I am uncomfortable with using a 3rd party, especially since the amount we paid every year for QBE that is now no longer useful to our business. !!
Which QB Desktop Enterprise year version do you run?
I believe 2021 but can verify when I get back to office.
Ask your accountant to use the trial version of QB Desktop 2021 Enterprise.
