Crashes on Sonoma

As an app developer, I am currently beta testing the newest Macintosh operating system,14.0 Sonoma.  I have noticed a bug in QuickBooks that is 100% repeatable. Every time I click a drop-down menu, such as selecting an account, it will immediately crash. This is not company specific as I have four different companies I am running and it happens on all of them. How can I get this to the software team so they can be in working on a solution?

I can't even use QB for Mac. The program starts and I log in and then nothing. I actually had to downgrade the OS in order to get back to my companies.

Hello there, @sb3421.

I appreciate you downgrading your MacOS to use QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Since it still doesn't work, let's clean install your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac so you can open and work with it. Let me guide you through the process.

Before doing so, you should have a backup copy of your company file so you can use it to restore when reinstalling the software.

Firstly, let's uninstall your QBDT for Mac. Before uninstalling, have your QuickBooks Desktop download file (or installation CD) and license numbers ready. Here's how:

  1. Close your QBDT for Mac.
  2. Go to the Finder menu, then select Applications.
  3. Drag the QuickBooks icon to the Trash.

Then, remove the QuickBooks PLIST files. To do so, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Finder menu.
  2. Hold down the Option key, then select Library.
  3. Open the Preferences folder.
  4. Find PLIST files that contain com.intuit.QuickBooks20XX, then move them to the Trash.
  5. Note: XX is the QuickBooks version you’re using.
  6. Empty the trash.

Once done, restart your device and reinstall QBDT for Mac.

Just in case you want to know more about QuickBooks for Mac, you can check out this user's guide for more guidance: QuickBooks Mac Plus User’s Guide.

Come back to this post if you have other concerns or follow questions about this. I'll be around to provide further assistance.

Hi,

I did the clean install but still nothing after qb login screen.

this happened only after the Sonoma 14 install.

I did not roll back the update because it is not such a short process.  I am still in Sonoma.

I would rather fix this problem than downgrading OS.

I feel like it cannot launch the sidebar controls that float and gets stuck.

We're pleased to have you back here, @sb3421. We understand that downgrading your OS isn't a great deal for you since it will take a lot of time.

We have here some additional insights about the concern that is helpful on your end. Since the SONOMA 14 OS is still in its BETA release, the QBDT Mac system doesn't support it yet. Which might cause the issue you're encountering in the system.

With this, we recommend downgrading your OS to continue using QBDT Mac smoothly. We can refer to this article for the supported operating system for Mac: System requirements for QuickBooks Mac Plus 2022.

Moreover, we can read this article to learn more about QBDT Mac: QuickBooks Mac Plus User’s Guide.

Nice tip but it didn't work. After reinstalling, the program didn't respond; just the spinning wheel of death. I sent an email asking to participate in the beta program but have not heard back.

Any update to this issue?  Mac Sonoma is about a week or so from formal release, but the QB for Mac (both QB 2021 and QB 2023 Plus) don't open in Sonoma.

I can see what you've been through about dealing with Sonoma and we know how much time it can take when something isn't working the way you need it.

As mentioned by my colleague above the SONOMA is still in beta release, which means not fully public release. Although we don't have a specific time frame as to when this will be mediated upon, rest assured, we're actively working to sort everything out.

I suggest visiting our reference page, which contains updates to the new enhancements of all QuickBooks Products every month: QB Firm of the Future.

For additional QuickBooks-related concerns, don't hesitate to post them here in the Community. We're always available and willing to lend a hand to your queries. Have a great day ahead.

Sonoma will be released on September 26th. That's 10 days from now. When will QB be functional? You've had months to figure this out.

This is really bad, what do we do now? Turn off updates in Mac?

Crashes on Sonoma

I'll share some updates and insights about the macOS Sonoma for QuickBooks Desktop Mac, @sb3421.

Yes, it's correct that Apple will release macOS Sonoma on September 26th. However, Intuit has not yet certified macOS Sonoma for company use. That said, please refrain from updating your machines and I recommend to keep checking the macOS standards site for our official timeline and announcement for the Intuit-wide release.

Should you have anything else to share or ask about the QuickBooks operating systems, please don't hesitate to leave a reply below. I'll jump to this thread to provide answers and additional assistance.

Regardless of whether or not you've certified it is besides the point. A veritable raft of applications are already able to run flawlessly on Sonoma. The real question is why haven't you certified it? The fact you haven't and the fact that you said not to update means we have to suffer through on our existing OS while you try and figure it out.

wow and you think this is an ok answer?

intuit did not know it did not work from the beginning until we called and spent a day to roll back updates, intuit did not fix the problem up to this date. moreover we have to check a link that does not work to get updates on the issue.
