This is why I never upgraded past 2019. They force you to go to a subscription model. For me, I have 7 different company files which makes it astronomically expensive.  RIP

my worry is that this fix will apply to QB2019

I have QBDT 2023 for Mac and am having the same issues others are describing.  So, I don't think it's just the 2019 version.  Just getting the spinning wheel.

The problem Archie is that your company makes us do a subscription mode.  In my case I have 7 company profiles which ends up costing a fortune!

Hello All,

Thank you for reporting any issues with Sonoma. Please continue to monitor for updates by going to the QuickBooks menu > Check for QuickBooks Updates… and take the update as soon as it becomes available.

Unable to open company file issue:

The issue identified here is that a hang can occur if the Home Page is open on launching a company file (or later opened). Please try the following workaround: From the No Company Open window, hold down the SHIFT key during the file open process. This will suppress any open windows (including the Home Page). Avoid opening the Home Page for the time being until an update is available. Please reply and let us know if you continue to have difficulties with file open even with window suppression.

Issues in 2019 or 2020:

Sonoma compatibility updates will not be available to users on 2019 or 2020. Currently, supported software versions are 2021 and newer. There are several options to avoid Sonoma issues and continue using your QuickBooks software version.

Option 1: Downgrade your machine to Ventura

Option 2: Set up a virtual machine with Ventura OS for QuickBooks operations

Other issues:

Please immediately report any encountered issues by going to the QuickBooks menu > QuickBooks Feedback. This will help the team confirm the resolution of issues and identify any possible outstanding problems.

Thank you!

Ben

Will the update be available outside of the application? The application crashes upon opening (spinning wheel), so I don't think I'd be able to access the menu as you described.

Also, I am on QB 2021 and somewhere in the thread seemed to indicate this was a QB 2019 issue, but I believe it's affecting everyone running the desktop app on Sonoma.

This is a nightmare. For me to use QuickBooks the same way I've been using it for 10 years I would have to pay you over $100/month. I have 2019 and this has wrecked my operation. I am a single person in my company not a large corporation.  It is just wrong for you to abandon us.

I'm running QuickBooks 2021 and while holding shift does suppress the home screen from opening, it is still crashing (spinning wheel). Will the update be available outside of the application (since I can not navigate the menus given the fact that it crashes on open even without the home screen being opened?

I can get it to open on 2019 bit adding a new customer makes it crash again.

That worked, so I can function now.  Frustrating we have to do this, but I appreciate the help to get us a workaround.  Hopefully it's fixed soon.  Thanks.

Really unacceptable for this to be happening with people who are paying the astronomical subscription pricing (which has just gone up again). The whole point is that we are supposed to be paying for active development with those prices.

Thanks. This has been my experience with QB 2021 on Sonoma. As long as I avoid the Home Page, all seems fine. In fact had I not stumbled upon this thread, I would not have even know of the issue since I never use the Home Page. Looking forward to the patch...

Crashes on Sonoma

For those still having issues with QBDM 2021, I've found that the key to hold down while opening is command, not shift.  Doing this allowed me to get the side bar open and use all windows EXCEPT the home page, which will trigger the spinning wheel.

For those on QBDM 2019, QBDM 2021 is the LAST version of QBDM that is NOT a subscription model (1 time purchase only).  QBDM 2021 has an end-of-life support set for May 2024, so they _have_ to fix the Sonoma issue, whereas 2019 has been end-of-life already.

Thank you for posting this.  I would happily upgrade to 2021 (from 2019) but there is no way to buy it!  I wonder if someone here would be willing to help me...  [email address removed]

How did you manage that? QB has  remembers the windows I had opened before and won't let me past trying to connect to your bank

what have you found to be the best alternative and maybe a good alternative but the least amount?

Guess what… I have Mac desktop 2023 and it’s crashing it as well. So not so sure, you should upgrade QuickBooks, perhaps look for different software…
