When can we expect an update for QuickBooks Desktop Mac 2021 to work with macOS Sonoma?
Thanks for joining the thread, offdwall10 and billhdz.
Currently, we're working on compatibility patches for all of the supported versions of QuickBooks for Mac. We have to wait for Apple to release the final version to the public before we can officially test the software. We hope to have this done within 1-2 weeks from the time the new operating system is released. QuickBooks Mac Plus 2022 and 2023 along with QuickBooks for Mac 2021 should have their patches as soon as possible.
We are aware of a few issues with QuickBooks on macOS Sonoma. One is a hang when opening the company file, which can be resolved by holding the Command key while entering login information to suppress open windows. Another is related to the Home page, so it is advisable to avoid opening it until compatibility patches are released. Additionally, there may be some unusual behavior with drop-down menus, particularly when using keyboard navigation.
Furthermore, there is an ongoing investigation regarding customers experiencing difficulties opening QuickBooks Mac on the new Sonoma OS. In light of this, I suggest reaching out to our support team if you encounter this issue. This way, you'll be added to the list of affected users and receive status updates through email or SMS. For a faster transaction, provide this investigation number to our representative: INV-93522. Here's how:

Final version to the public? Really! The final version is out in case you haven't noticed. Why can't you people own up to your mistakes!?
Can you simply tell those of us on 2019 Desktop what our options are? I use only the basic functions of QBs as I'm a one-person business. All these workarounds clearly don't work for 2019. And your answers re 2019 patch are vague. Can you not wlak into the head of Technical Support's office and simply ask if they plan to release a patch for 2019. It isn't really that hard to help us out. If not patch, do we move to 2024 Desktop. Is it an easy upgrade to do so?
QBD 2019 is outdated. You should install the trial version of QB Desktop 2023 to make sure it works on your machine. Then you can buy a new license of QB Desktop 2024 later. You have to call their sales team by phone or buy it trough selected partners.
Sorry for my ignorance. So I download the trial version of Desktop of 2023 just to see if it appears to work and not crash or do I treat it as my new system and upgrade, and begin using my datas with it. When will Desktpp 2024 be avialble for me to purchase? What phone number do I call to purchase?
2024 is out now, I downloaded it as a part of my annual ridiculously priced plan.
Please read the following before deciding to "upgrade" from 2019!!!
Be careful anyone using 2019. I got suckered in to this my self when they had an obvious bug in 2019 and support told me if I upgrade to 2022 that should fix it. So I did, after paying for that upgrade. I hadn't planned to upgrade so soon as I normally waited a number of years between upgrades unless there is a feature I just have to have. So 2023 rolls around and I get messages about having to upgrade to 2023. I admit I didn't read them that carefully since I didn't intend to upgrade again. I missed the fact that as of 2022 version, if you don't pay, it's not that you just don't get support and new features, but they lock out your files and you no longer have access to any of your data. Of course, there is no way to go backwards in versions after your file is updated. So, now they have you stuck paying them very high rates every year. Very slimy biz practice. I looked at alternatives, I was so mad at them, but sadly I didn't find anything that wasn't more expensive or didn't download many of the institutions records I use, which would make for a lot of wasted time on my part. It sucks but that is where it is.
I can't say whether you should upgrade from 2019 or not, I just wanted to make sure folks knew the consequences before they did.
“We have to wait for Apple to release the final version to the public before we can officially test our software. We hope to have this done within 1-2 weeks from the time the new operating system is released.”
So what you’re saying is it’s going to take 1-2 weeks from now to “officially” test the software since Apple has indeed released the final version to the public. And how long after the “official” testing will there be a fix for this debacle?
You can download the installer file for the trial version of QBD 2023 from this link
They just released QBD 2024 today and it usually takes a few weeks for the trial version to be available for download. You can try to call sales team at 1.888.979.4852 to buy the license of QBD 2024. If the salesperson is not helpful in providing QBD 2024, you can still buy it through selected partners.
I looked at alternatives
If you don't mind to use the trial version of QB Desktop Windows on Parallels, you can use it for good if required,
We hear you, @mitt1. What you're feeling right now is valid. Let me help feel at ease by providing you with helpful insights.
We agree with what @Fiat Lux - ASIA answered. Adding to that, QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2019 is now a discontinued product. All versions including QBDT Pro, Premier, for Mac, and Enterprise Solutions. Moreover, your access to Payroll, Payments, live technical support, Online Backup. Online Banking, and other services through QBDT 2019 are discontinued last May 31, 2022. You won't also receive critical security updates protecting your data.
With that in mind, we recommend contacting QBDT Live Support to help you upgrade your version. You can also read this article to learn if your current system is compatible with the QBDT 2024 version: System Requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2024.
I'll also add these articles to learn more about QBDT 2024 and how to install it on your computer:
Don't hesitate to reply to this post if you have additional questions. I'll be happy to lend a hand. Take care always.
Quickbooks for Mac (2021) - will update be coming for Sonoma? I can no longer access my desktop app and as a small business I do not require the expensive online service now offered. What is ETA or do I need to look for altnerantive to quickbooks?
Thanks for your comments.
I hope Intuit gets us updates soon for Quickbooks Desktop for Mac 2021. They always take so long, which I don’t understand. Other software companies start working very early on updates for their software with beta versions of the operating systems, so that is ready when the new MacOS is released.
Back to Desktop 2019, I will purchase Desktop 2024 when I am allowed to do so. Will it be an easy upgrade form 2019 and should all my data transition over?
Wouldn't I ultimately need to buy Windows on PArallels license and a license for 2019 QB Desktop for Windows (which I probably can't find anywhere?
Contact me in private if you need help to get the license for QB Desktop 2024 Mac Plus or running QB Desktop Windows on Parallels. If you don't mind to use the trial version of QB Desktop Windows 2022 or 2023, you can use it for good if required.
What kills me is Intuit has the audacity to increase already insane renewal rates AGAIN, for a product that's not fully functional. Shaking my head, wishing I could jump the Intuit ship once for all. This is no way to run a business, folks.
I’m having the same issue and am also wondering how I will be able to update since the spinning wheel of death is all that happens when I try to open
Which QB Desktop year version do you have?
Trying to run Quickbooks 2021 for Max on Apple’s new operating system Sonoma 14.0
I just updated the install to, QuickBooks 22.0.4.692 R5.2 which - in release notes - says it's Sonoma compatible. I'd love this to be verified before committing to updating my OS to Sonoma. Anyone??...
I’m running Quickbooks 2021 for Mac… upgraded to Sonoma 14.0 yesterday.. Now my Quickbooks file won’t open. It is stuck on the spinning wheel.
I’ve had issues similar to this happen for Quickbooks for Mac in the last couple years.. it’s always slow to get resolved.. Very upsetting as a small business owner.. Really hoping they give us an update soon.
I guess we should just wait until w can buy Desktop 2024, install it and then hopefully import our 2019 data file in with only minor upgrade issues. Do you agree?
