If I do try the 2021 download and the 15 free logins in the trial period, will the work I do translate back down to the 2020 version if that starts working again since I cant use the 2021 version for long?
Dont really want to do the trial if it locks me in to the newer version that I cannot get.
I have a few rental properties and I have used QB for 15+years. I also have used Quicken for probably longer for my personal bank accounts. I had 6 rentals (now only 4) and QB allowed me to allocate costs to the individual property which made tax prep simple. Quicken cant really do that so I used QB happily over this time bc although expensive (think it used to be about $500) I could buy the software and use it for 4-5 years. Thats not a bad deal for someone who doesnt run a big business w/ QB. But $1k/year isnt doable for a business I probably make less than $20K/year. I dont use any of the online downloads, bill pay, etc. Just enter my charges manually like I have done forever. My bank charged $15/mo to hookup to QB years ago and again wasnt worth it to me bc I have probably 10 xctns/mo.
Earlier in the thread I saw some alternatives to QB, may have to try those if this doesnt get resolved to get this years tax reporting done and probably start fresh in 2024.
I would be interested in that workaround as well. I have not been able to get into my QB 2020 since I updated and it is driving me nuts not being able to keep things updated.
Contact me in private for details.
Intuit tells me that there are still problems with the desktop versions connecting with Sonoma. They say only the online versions are compatible.
2021 Desktop version is working fine for me since the update from Quickbooks.
Did you have to buy a new license, or are you using a trial version?
Does the 2021 trial version allow you to use custom templates/logos on invoices?
QuickBooks Mac Desktop 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 are compatible with Sonoma after the recent updates. If you open a file with a newer version you'll be locked into the newer version (you can go back to the original file of course but anything you enter in the newer version is not backward compatible).
2019 and 2020 do not currently work with Sonoma. Apple has released a beta version (only available to developers as far as I know) that fixes the tab and home page crashing issue. I don't know when that version will go live or if something else will break but that's what our testing shows.
Can you please clarify @KayIntuit @books11249 ? The latest MacOS Sonoma OS 14.1 beta 3 now allows QB Mac Desktop 2019 to work? Like you can open and create invoices now? Thanks!
You can buy a new license of QBD 2024 Mac Plus or use the trial version of QBD 2021.
As I know, the answer is yes.

Understandable...but can you tell us how to purchase an operational version of QB 2021 then. I am a disabled veteran very small business owner and simply can't afford the annual QB online fees.
They don’t care sir. Thank you for your service to the greatest country in the world. Let me know if you get a fix please. Also in same boat. Held hostage by a greedy company that only cares about profits. Wish there was another option but they have us by the neck here.
Same boat here, 2019 user completely crippled for over 2 weeks now. Please keep me informed if you learn of a fix
🤦‍
I just wanted to repost again the I'm up an running just fine with QB2019 under a Ventura virtualization using UTM (from the App Store). Works fine, simple to use and the company file can still live on your main system for backup, etc.
If you don't have the original CD of QB 2019 Mac, how do you install it onto the Ventura Virtual installation ?
I just copied the app from my desktop to the virtualization. Mount the main system Applications folder on the virtualization using the macOS file sharing and drag and drop.
Quick question. When setting up the UTM for this can you use Time Machine to clone your entire drive to the Ventura Virtual or would that suck up too much memory/hard disk space? I know I can access QB if that were the case as that is how I transferred QB to my new Mac.
Thanks
In theory you could do that but you're now using double the storage and seems wasteful to me. I just created the VM, went through macOS configuration (without adding and appleid) and then copied the app file from the host machine (HM) to the VM applications folder. It just worked. I also mount the folder on the HM which has the company file on the VM and just run the company from there so it gets backed up as normal.
I even set up the VM to autologin to the user created during VM setup and autolaunch the company so once I start the VM I just wait a minute and can start work.
I did a software update this morning to the Sonoma Version 14.1 Beta version and QB 2019 seems to be working fine for me. I don't ever use the homepage, so I don't know if that still makes it crash, but if you use the tabs you may be ok too.
@MonicaM3 This has a very simple solution. Allow all of us (there are MANY) who use QB2019 to PURCHASE a license for 2021. You'll get some cash that way but we aren't going to buy into your subscription model.
We want to do things above board and your company allowing the purchase of 2021 would allow you to save some face from what has otherwise been a massive fiasco.
You probably don't have authority but you and others at Inuit ought to wake up the powers that be that this is damaging your brand beyond repair.
i wish i saw this earlier. i had to download 2021 with trial to access data. i dont believe qb is able to restore to older version of software (surprise surprise, another silent money grab for them)
I too was engulfed in their ploy and had to update. I now am paying too bloody much for their online software version. It was a simple money grab by Intuit!
Cheers
