You can use the trial version of QBD 2021 to open your file and you will have time to consider your options later.

After reading through all the comments on this post I'm still a bit confused as to what the solution is.  Do I upgrade my QB Desktop or Install an update or downgrade my Sonoma?   Can I upgrade to QB 2021, 2022, or 2023?   Is that the best overall solution?

Your best option is to purchase QB Desktop 2024 Mac Plus to upgrade your QB Desktop 2019 or 2020. Otherwise, you can contact me in private and we can share some options to consider.

FWIW, you may want to wait to do anything until Tuesday, 10/24 and upgrade to Sonoma 4.1 from Sonoma 4.0 when it is released. (10/24 is the rumored update release date).  Apple is scheduled to release an update to their initial MacOS Sonoma 4.0 version hopefully this week.  The final release candidate software has been rolled out to developers and public beta testers and It has been reported that 2019 issues MAY have been fixed in Version 4.1.  No one that I have seen has thoroughly tested 2019 with 4.1 as it is not released in final form, but it has been reported throughout this thread that some people running the beta version of 4.1 Sonoma have found it addressed their 2019 problems.  Not sure if all issues were/are fixed as people who are reporting seem to disappear after they get their 2019 working again at least in the short term.  Will not really know for sure until final 4.1 Sonoma software is released, but worth the wait for me.  Intuit has the beta software and, given the issues reported by users on this and other forums, it would be nice to hear them weigh in and see if it fixed the 2019  Mac Desktop problems, even thought "IT IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED".

Like any other application, QuickBooks for Mac can encounter compatibility issues when a new operating system is launched. The 2019 and 2020 version of QuickBooks was developed before the release of this new OS, so it may experience challenges in running smoothly on it.

In this case, I recommend considering upgrading to a newer version of QuickBooks Desktop that is compatible with Sonoma MacOS. The newer versions often include bug fixes, stability improvements, and support for the latest operating systems.

With that in mind, we recommend contacting QBDT Live Support to help you upgrade your version. You can also read this article to learn if your current system is compatible with the QBDT 2024 version: System Requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2024.

Hi AbigailS at Intuit QuickBooks Team.  2019 does the job and works just fine for me. Do not need more than 2019 offers.  It just does the job.  You must be sales and not support as you are doing nothing except trying to upsell your software instead of helping users like me that are fine and happy with how their current software does the job.  

@Dierkens at this point the "Desktop" software upgrade that sales is referring to here is not a desktop software in the traditional sense. You still must have a subscription in order to access your file. At this point if you upgraded to Sonoma and your Quickbooks is now broken you can wait it out for the new Sonoma release patch and hope it fixes it, you can pay for a new Quickbooks and pay for it in perpetuity, you can restore your computer to a Time Machine backup prior to your upgrade to Sonoma, you can install a virtual machine and then your version of Quickbooks on there and restore your Quickbooks from a backup.

Do you have QB Desktop 2019?

I had to take my Apple MacBook Pro back to the Apple Store and have them downgrade my OS Sonoma back to Ventura OS so I could get my Quickbooks 2019 DT working again. So, I guess I am stuck with an older OS thanks to Quickbooks holding us hostage.

I had to take my Apple MacBook Pro back to the Apple Store and then downgraded the OS from Sonoma back to Ventura. Thankfully, everything was uploaded to the Cloud so I didn't lose anything; however, I had to set up my laptop because it went back to a "new" computer again.

Yes, I do have QB Desktop 2019 for Mac. 

We understand that there are challenges when running QuickBooks for Mac on the new macOS version, Sazzo.

When a major operating system update launches, it can cause compatibility issues for apps like QuickBooks that were developed on previous versions.

According to the latest update, our engineering team has already released patches that improve the compatibility with the new OS. This is available to QuickBooks or Mac 2022 and later versions. 

However, please note that QuickBooks 2019 is now an unsupported version since it has been discontinued. This means that no new feature updates or bug fixes will be released for QB 2019. You can find more details about this here: QuickBooks Desktop Service Discontinuation Policy.

You might consider upgrading to these supported versions to maximize compatibility.

With regards to adding you to the list of affected users, I would recommend contacting our support team. They will ask for your account details so they can take not of your contact information. Here's how:

2. Select QuickBooks for Mac and click Continue.

There's a lot of entries to this forum and not all are accurate. Let me recap where it stands:

1. If you are running macOS Sonoma Intuit has issued slipstream updates for QuickBooks Mac 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.  These are all the supported versions of QuickBooks Mac.

2. If you are running macOS Sonoma and QuickBooks Mac 2019 or 2020... these are unsupported products at this point and Intuit won't be updating them. There are a couple crashing issues with Sonoma and these versions.  Apple is fixing the bugs (yes, they are bugs in Sonoma and not in QuickBooks Mac itself) and we have seen those bug fixes working to eliminate these crashes in developer beta builds of macOS Sonoma. No one except Apple knows when these will be released as an official update to Sonoma or whether those bug fixes will ultimately make it into the release.  But my guess, which is just a guess, is that they will and it won't be very long now.

3. There can always be other bugs in Sonoma that cause issues with QuickBooks Mac (any version).  We'll find workarounds for them where we can for the supported versions of QuickBooks Mac.  If anyone encounters anything please post it under a new thread in this forum. 

For myself, I've had issues with fonts in PDFs and with printing timing out on an HP Ink Jet printer. Neither of these things is related to QuickBooks Mac but as always with a new macOS there can be bugs that impact workflows.

FWIW I have just updated to Sonoma 4.1 that was released today.  My 2019 MacDesktop soffware is now working and performing as usual without problems.  It appears that Apple's tweak/bug fix to their software has fixed the bug that was causing 2019 to crash.  Mine MBDT 2019 is working just fine now since the update. Invoicing, register,  etc. are all working as before for me. Running on an M2-Macbook air.  

This is great news although the whole thing has totally soured me to Intuit.  I ended up going through the SUPER painful thing to switch to wave.  It's free and it's actually super nice.  Now that I have that, even though I can return to QuickBooks...  I don't think I'm coming back. 

I feel like I've just been through a brutal divorce and now my ex wants me back (even though Intuit couldn't give a rat's a**) if I come back or not. I feel like using 2019 is a dead end now.  Kill me now or kill me later, the writing is on the wall.  Same with 2021 by the way.  give them a few months and they'll retire that one too.  

If you are not on an annual or subscription model you will be, or you won't be on Intuit.  Might as well enjoy my new younger, prettier, fresher platform.  

hey @boan - i would like to switch to Wave as well. Were you able to import your QB transactions? Can you provide some guidance in how to get setup in Wave?

No, I was only able to import my customers.  I figured I'll start 4Q23 on Wave and for year-end tax reports, etc I'll just have to combine the two.  I'll keep the QuickBooks for reference if I need older stuff.  

Once you set up wave its actually super nice, but you have pretty much start from scratch.
