Crashing to Desktop when trying to verify, rebuild, or condense data

Hi everyone,

I have a massive file 1.3 gb that has not been archives since 2014.  So i am trying to run a condense data for period before 1/1/22 to get a much smaller file and speed things up.  I closed all users, copied the file to my local machine and ran a verify first to ensure the data was intact.  Crash to desktop, no error.  Ran all quickbooks updates (2023 enterprise) and tried again, same result.  I tried  condense without verify, same result.  Thinking maybe it is  data issue I ran a rebuild, again same result.  I went into event viewer to see the error and got this:

Faulting application name: qbw.exe, version: 33.0.4006.3302, time stamp: 0x64e655f7
Faulting module name: txncore.dll, version: 33.0.4006.3302, time stamp: 0x651c45a7

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot or fix this?  The file is painfully slow so I know it needs to be condensed but I cannot make it past 1st base here!

I believe your company file is corrupted. Try running QB ToolHub to fix your file or chat Support team to check it. Another option, ask a 3rd party service provider to fix your file.

Crashing to Desktop when trying to verify, rebuild, or condense data

Hi there, ivan.

I'm here to help fix the issue you're having when performing verify/rebuild and condensing your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) company file.

I agree with what Fiat Lux - ASIA mentioned above. Additionally, there are several other potential factors that could be causing your QBDT to crash while performing those tasks. Some of these include:

  • Your company name may be too long
  • You may have a damaged or missing QBWUSER.INI file
  • You may have corruption on your hard drive
  • Your program files or QBDT installation may be damaged
  • You may have a damaged Windows operating system

To isolate this, let's run the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This tool will help fix common errors or issues in QBDT. Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. We recommend you download the most recent version (1.4.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. Once finish, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

After that, run the Quick Fix my Program in the Tool Hub. Here's how:

  1. In the QuickBooks Tool Hub, select Program Problems.
  2. Select Quick Fix my Program.
  3. Start QBDT and open your data file.

If the same thing happens, check out this article and proceed to Solutions 2 and 3 for more troubleshooting steps: Fix issues when QuickBooks has stopped working.

Crashing to Desktop when trying to verify, rebuild, or condense data

Hello, ivanjay205.

I appreciate you for performing the troubleshoot steps to fix the unexpected behavior in the software. Your efforts are truly appreciated. But don't worry, I'm here to ensure that you'll get past this error to condense your file successfully. I have other troubleshooting steps to help this isolate. Let's open up a sample company file and see if that will help us figure out where the issue is stemming from.

This should give us a better idea of whether the problem is isolated to your company file or if it's something to do with QuickBooks itself. By doing so, we can gain a clearer understanding of the situation and come up with an appropriate course of action.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the No Company Open window.
  2. Select Open a sample file.
  3. Select any sample file on the list.

Then, consider copying and saving the company file in a separate location. Doing so could help identify whether the folder where the company file is currently stored is corrupted.

Here's how:

  1. Right-click anywhere on your Desktop, then select New, then Folder.
  2. Name the folder QBTEST and save it to a folder where you can easily find it.
  3. Open the folder, then right-click the file and click Copy.
  4. Paste the company file into the QBTEST folder that you created.
  5. Open the company file from the QBTEST folder.

If you continue encountering problems, I recommend uninstalling the program. Doing so can ensure that any potential issues or bugs are cleared out completely, and you can start fresh with a clean installation. For more information, read through this article: Clean install QuickBooks Desktop.

Here are the steps:

  1. You'll need to ensure a backup copy of your company first.
  2. Then, close QuickBooks.
  3. Now, go to Control Panel and select Programs.
  4. Choose Programs and Features and click on Uninstall or change a program.
  5. From there, select QuickBooks and click on Uninstall/Change.
  6. When prompted, click on Continue and Next.
  7. Select Finish and restart your computer.

Once finished, condense your data again. But If you've tried all the troubleshooting steps and are still experiencing issues, it's best to contact our customer support team for further assistance. They have the necessary tools to open your account and identify the root cause of the problem.

Here's how:

  1. Click Help inside QuickBooks.
  2. Go to QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. This will display the Contact Us screen.
  4. Go to the Tell us more about your question section to enter the issue or topic in the field box.
  5. Select either chat with us or Have us call you.

I know it's frustrating when the program doesn't work how it's supposed to, but I'm here to help you troubleshoot and find a solution. Let me know if there's anything else I can assist you with. Have a great day!
