My accountant has QB 2018 for Windows. I have QB 2020 for Mac (V19.0.11 R12). When I export my business for Windows he cannot read the file and gets error code -1.0. I realize we are talking about different versions and platforms separating the products but this has worked in the past. Last year I paid QB $125 to fix a corrupt file but there is no indication this year that that is the problem. QB tech support suggests that the problem is that QB 2018 for Windows is no longer a viable product.
Yes, it's correct that QuickBooks 2018 is no longer supported, RBulson.
Your accountant should also use QuickBooks 2019 or 2020 to prevent issues on the file. Once they have the latest QuickBooks version, you can start converting your file to Windows.
Here's how:
Step 1: Update QuickBooks
Follow the steps to update QuickBooks for Mac to the latest release.
Step 2: Get your company file ready
Remove any memos longer than 50 characters or contain special characters like !@#$%^&*. Search for memos with special characters in them.
Step 3: Convert your company file
Once done, send your company file to your accountant so they can make changes. Please hold off on installing any QuickBooks updates until you get your file back.
Or avoid entering anything new while your accountant has your file. This way you don't lose any records when you get your file back.
When you receive the file, you can convert your file back to Mac when they're done.
