I checked in our system and didn't find similar issues, rta1.
You can work simultaneously with QuickBooks Online on different tabs and computers. We can verify if the unusual behavior is caused by a browser-related issue. You start with updating your browser. Once done, try opening your account on multiple tabs using a private browser. You can use these keyboard shortcuts to open one:
If the system doesn't close, you'll want to switch back to the main browser and clear the cache. You'll also want to open QuickBooks simultaneously on different browsers.
You'll want to check out this link on how to change the timeout duration in QuickBooks Online.
Keep me posted on how this works. I'm just around to help. Take care!
I tried your solutions, but that is browser related. I guess I should have mentioned that this is with the downloaded app to our computers. Those are the tabs that when you want to open a second one, shuts down the current tab and sends you back to the sign on screen. This is happening with multiple computers, Win10 and a Win7 operating systems. The program may work properly once, then revert to the "one tab only" problem the majority of the time. This is very frustrating and makes working with Quickbooks an unpleasant experience, not to mention ineffective for our business.
So still looking for a solution. I've removed the program, cleared caches and cookies, restarted then reloaded the program. Same problem.
Thank you,

Thanks for getting back to this thread and adding clarifications to your concern in QuickBooks, @rta1.
I definitely understand how it can be frustrating to sign up for a service and have it not work the way you think it should be. That said, let me provide you another step on how to resolve this issue.
Windows App for QuickBooks Online (QBO) allows our users to open multiple tabs. This way, it would be easy for them to do multitasking while using the app.
Since the application closes after opening another window, I'd recommend performing the following troubleshooting steps. These will help you fix some minor data issues in the program.
If the program still closes after opening another tab, clear the cache by going to File in the upper left corner, and then Clear Cache. This step will help us clear out the stored files which impact and causes issues in the program.
Lastly, if the above steps won't work, we'll have to uninstall and reinstall the QBO application. Here's the link to reinstall the app: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/apps/. Scroll down to the Get the QuickBooks Mac or Windows App section, then click the Free Download button.
I'd appreciate it if you can get back to me with the results. We can troubleshoot this further in case the same behavior occurs.
Thank you. I've done that before and it works for a while. I will attempt it again, but if the issue reoccurs I'll jump back on the thread.
