Enterprise users login failure

Hello all,

We recently migrated Enterprise 2023 (Backup/Restore) to a new workstation to be the new server.

We had two licenses and added a third.

We get error messages telling us to have someone log off when only one other user is logged in.

We should be able to have three (3) simultaneous users, i.e., two workstation users and user on server computer.

I updated the licenses on each computer using the Manage my licenses option. Checked the license (F2) and it show three (3) which is correct.

Question 1: Is the server using a license if QuickBooks isn't open, but Server Manager is running? WE have other workstations that need access as well, although not at the same time.

Question 2: One of the workstations changed to Multiple user option on it;s own

Hello there, @stardell. I'm here to help you access your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) smoothly.

To ensure the three users can access QBDT simultaneously, you'll have to set up the multi-user network. I'll guide you on how.

Let's start with mapping the drive to keep your files on a network. This will make it easy for the workstations to access the company file from the shared storage.

Next, you'll now have to turn on the folder and windows permissions to share company files. This method will ensure the workstations can access and work with your books.

Also, you'll need to make sure that QuickBooks Database Server Manager is installed. Then, refer to the steps in this article to configure your Firewall and Internet security settings so QuickBooks will run on your network: Set up firewall and security settings for QuickBooks Desktop.

After that, set up the Admin rights to the Windows user account to access Database Server Manager. Next, scan the folder that holds your company files.

Once everything is fine, you can now turn on the Multi-user access on your server computer.

For reference, please check this article: Install QuickBooks Desktop on a server.

I'm always here ready to lend a hand if you have any other concerns about managing your files in QuickBooks. Have a good one and stay safe.

Thank you for the quick reply.

the network setup was/is working.

The issue is the inability to have simultaneous logins up to the quantity of licenses we have.

thnx

Thank to all that helped with this and other related issues.

As it turns out, I had found the instructions for multi-user network setup a little confusing.

For the future...When setting up a "Multi-User" environment in your company, all workstations need to have "Multi-User" enabled, but only the "Server" computer should have "Hosting" turned on.

My thanks to Lance at QuickBooks Support for this information and resolution.
