Ive been with them for 15 years and I'm switching due to their latest greed
Our business had to renew due to utilizing payroll services and was not aware that subscriptions were the ONLY option. Call went to the Philippines and the Intuit rep REPEATEDLY and DIRECTLY LIED and reassured me that what we were paying would cover three years and that we would NOT have to renew on an annual basis.
When we had to call Intuit a while later regarding a separate matter is when we then were informed that we had indeed paid for only an annual subscription. In short, they would do absolutely nothing about the fact that their sales people lie. Lost all trust in this being a respectable and reputable company.
Your scripted response as a Quickbooks Team member only reiterates how much you did not really read their post and how little you actually care about any repercussions the changes are having on your customers. Your response is thus only further insult added to the injury.
I didn't order or pay for 2022, but my computer guy must have opened it. It upgraded all my files to 2022 and now I can't open my 2019 files without paying 549 for the upgrade. has anyone gotten around this?
I now can't open any of my previous qb files.
You don't have QBD 2022 installed on your machine?
How did you know the computer guy upgraded it (accidentally?) to QBD 2022?
Hi @654074119,
Thank you for choosing QuickBooks as your accounting software. I'm here to clarify how the company files work in the Desktop version.
Once you upgrade a company to a higher version of QuickBooks, the action is irreversible. The ability to convert the file within the program is unavailable.
You can either check if you have a backup copy from the 2019 version or search for a third-party app that offers migration services. We can't suggest an app, but you can search for one online that supports QuickBooks.
You can import bank transactions, general journal entries, batch transactions, customers, vendors, and other information. You can use this article to avoid starting from scratch or transferring info to and from QuickBooks: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.
We're always available if you have questions about converting data in QuickBooks. Use the Reply option below and leave a comment. Take care always.
qb 2019 desktop. I don't see how to order an upgrade to open my 2019 files. They are locked bc qb, without permission, I don't know how, upgraded all my 2019 files to 2022 and now I can't access them without purchasing the 2022. I only need the desktop version. I retired last year but still need my files for taxes. I even had my bookkeeper send me a qbb fie from last year, but when I tried to restore it, qb updated it to 2022. Can anyone help with this? It seems so invasive and illegal, actually.
Thank you for your quick reply, @654074119. Helping you access your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) file is my goal today. I'll ensure you'll be able to do it successfully in no time.
We value the privacy of your data. It seems that there's a suspicious act happening with your file since it was upgraded without your permission. I can see how important it is to you to open your file for tax and other purposes. While you can't do it, I recommend contacting support. From there, they can give you other options on how to recover your data.
Here's how:
For your convenience, you can reach out to them during their business hours. Check out the details here: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support.
If you decide to purchase the 2022 or later version of QuickBooks, restore your backup file to open your data.
Thank you for remaining a loyal customer. If you have follow-up questions, let me know by leaving a comment below. I'm always here to help. Have a good one!
If you didn't register any new transactions into the upgraded file, you may consider to purchase a 3rd party roll back service.
Illegal, yes. Sounds like a class action waiting to happen! This is not the first time QB has screwed me by bait and switch, but it will be the last as I am moving to other software ASAP.
I completely agree with you! Intuit QB held my data hostage until I paid a whopping $749.00 for the Subscription renewal, which I didn't realize was annual when I purchased. I have a small company and DO NOT USE any of the online services. It's ridiculous that it should cost that much. Intuit found a windfall and we are paying the price. I called to see if I could negotiate a cheaper price for those reasons and they tried to sell me QBO - which is equally expensive and less user friendly. I am seeking an alternative accounting program.
We also have a small business and never used all the extra bells & whistles.
By suggestion from another poster, I switched everything to a FREE program called MANAGER. It's a pain to transfer date, but once I finished, I LOVE IT! It's very simple to use, and can be modified amny ways to fit your company.

Hope you can break free from the QB stranglehold!
Peace.
If you are working solo on a desktop (PC or Mac) to manage your book and only need basic features, you should explore this one. You can use the program for as long as you like, use all the features and enter as much data as required. There are no time limits, no usage limits, no ads (at this time). This program is quite popular in Asia and Europe.
Then to pay your bills for free by ACH, you can signup a Melio account for free.

Like all of you, I am EXTREMELY pissed off at QB right now. I've used QB desktop for over 20 years in various businesses, and while not perfect it does everything we need.
We just got the notice that even Desktop is going to a $799/yr subscription service starting May 31!!! WTH!! I talked to my "account rep" (that I never knew I had) and was basically told "switch to QB Online", which won't work for us for all the holes and missing functions that have been well documented. We have QB 2020.
We use CC processing and shipping. I can easily (not easily but can manage) not use the cc processing, but we absolutely NEED the shipping function.
So will will no longer process cards with QB - meaning they won't be getting nearly $10,000 in fees/year going forward so they can have their $799 subscription. And we're only paying it because we can't transition to a new platform by May 31 in time.
The greed of this company is going to come back and bite them.
Has anyone switched to Freshbooks or any other alternative to have an opinion?

You can purchase a 3rd party service to convert data from QB if required.

Just like all Quickbooks support - completely useless
I have used Quickbooks since it came out... yes, that's a lot of years.
As an accountant/bookkeeper I manage several businesses in my accountants copy of QBD and as part of the Proadvisor program, I also do payroll for a dozen companies - with your new subscription based greed, you are now cutting MY income stream - I have to explain to my clients that they're going to have to pay you monthly and expect the price to increase every other month!
I have never seen such poor customer service and pure greed as Intuit has shown in the past couple years - guess I should have bought stock in Intuit...
I'm shopping - it may end up being an excel spreadsheet, but I refuse to be held hostage and fork over more and more money!
If you are working solo on a desktop (PC or Mac) to manage your book and only need basic features, you should explore the free program as I mentioned earlier.
100% agree!!!!
I have been loyal to QB since 1998, yes, since it started!! I run an accounting business and do books for several companies, as well as payroll... they have literally cut my revenue to nothing since now all my customers have to subscribe to the QBO with payroll... I spent most of yesterday looking for alternatives and am so disheartened - they have the accounting software arena locked up... however I have discovered that Gusto payroll is at least more affordable. Take a small company with 10 employees, the QBO payroll will run them in excess of $1k a year with the per employee charge tacked onto the monthly fee, I believe Gusto will get my payroll business in the future. Quickbooks was built for small business, small business cannot afford their fees any more....
I'm looking at the Manager program and Freshbooks... Gusto may be an alternative for payroll
