How To Export QB Premier Contractor Desktop 2012 to QBO

I appreciate you for returning to this conversation. I'm joining here to provide additional details, Arno.

Yes. You can export the QuickBooks Premier Desktop 2012 to QuickBooks Online using an online tool. The QuickBooks Online plan you select should be based on your business needs. I recommend visiting our website to review the available features that are essential for your business.

Here's how to migrate your data:

  1. Make sure you already have a QBO account and have already saved a backup copy of your data in QBDT.
  2. Open QuickBooks Pro/Premier online tool.
  3. Select Get Started, then sign in with your Intuit Account.
  4. Upload your company file.
  5. Once your file is uploaded, we’ll auto-update it to the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop. Next, you'll see an option to move to QuickBooks Online.

When it comes to exporting data from two branch offices, it's important to note that you can only transfer data from one company file to QBO. If you want to add data that are coming from another company file, you can manually export the data from QuickBooks Desktop and manually import them to your QBO. If there isn't a direct option to transfer it to QuickBooks, you can use a third-party application to complete the process.

On the other hand, you can track them separately by creating two QuickBooks Online companies. You can create a new one under the same email address.

When you switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online, you may notice differences in how your books appear. Check this article for more information: Features and data move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Stay in touch if you have more concerns while navigating and doing tasks in QuickBooks Online. I'll be around to help.

How To Export QB Premier Contractor Desktop 2012 to QBO

I can help import data to QuickBooks Online (QBO), Arno.

Beforehand, did you run the QuickBooks Tool Hub before migrating the file? It can help resolve potential issues with your QuickBooks software, making the process smoother and more successful.

Additionally, if your QBO file is less than 60 days old and using QuickBooks Online Plus, Essentials, or Advanced, you can clear all your data, but be aware that this action is irreversible.

To purge the data, follow the steps listed below:

  1. Log in to your QBO account.
  2. Change the URL to include /purgecompany.
  3. Example: URL shows https://...qbo.intuit.com/app/homepage, change to: https://...qbo.intuit.com/app/purgecompany.
  4. The next screen will provide a summary of the items to delete.
  5. Type YES once the data gets deleted, then click OK.
  6. Click Wipe Data once your selections are complete.
  7. Once done, you'll return to your home page.

If it's 60 days old or older, you'll have to cancel your account and start a new subscription.

To start a new account:

  1. Go to https://quickbooks.intuit.com/choose-country/.
  2. Fill up the User ID and password.
  3. You can use the same user ID and password you previously had.

For more details, check this link: Delete your data and start over.

Also, Chinese characters may gamble because QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2012 is compatible with Windows 7 or 8. Consequently, when converting the file, the Windows settings in the Migration Tools may not support Multi-language.

You'll want to upgrade your data from 2012-2015, 2015-2019, and 2019-2021 and convert it to QBO. However, the only available trial version of QBDT is the most recent one (QBDT 2024). To help you get a code to download the trials, I highly recommend contacting our Customer Support Team. They can provide the details and assist you in the upgrade process.

 Here's how;

  1. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help from the Help menu.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Type in a short description of your concern, then Continue.
  4. Choose a way to connect with support.

For more details about our support availability, refer to this article: Contact Support.

Alternatively, you can look for a third-party migration tool to help import the file. You can find one by visiting this website: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/app/apps/home/.

I've added this article to learn more about what information you can import in QBO: Common questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online.

Do you need to convert data from QB Desktop US version to QB Online US or another region?

One QBO account is for one company file. You will need to sign up for 2 QBO accounts.

Why don't you upgrading to QB Desktop with a newer version to manage multiple company files?

Yes, I need convert data from QB Desktop US to QB Online US, but my Desktop is premier contractor and very old version.

I am afraid when I export data to QBO and the data is not complete.

We are going to use Deltek Apps and they said we have to use BQO so they can export data to QBO.

@Arno Weng

When you use their converter tool, they will basically upgrade your company file in their backend machine and convert it to QB Online. It's very possible that their Windows OS running the conversion doesn't support multi-language fonts.

You may have 2 options:

1. Install the trial version of QB Desktop 2015, 2019, and 2021 to upgrade your file gradually and convert it to QB Online.

2. Keep your historical data in QB Desktop and you will access it for good. Then you can start from scratch in QB Online. You may consider to use the trial version of QB Desktop 2024 to access your historical data for good on your new machine.

So, how to clean the data I import before?

Try opening your company file on QB Desktop 2021 as I mentioned earlier. You have to make sure all the characters are fine. Then you can try to convert your data to QB Online.

Hi Arno,

You may be experiencing some program-related issues.

With that, let's perform the verify and rebuild steps to fix the issue when converting to QuickBooks Online. To get started, close all windows. Then, from the File menu, select Utilities, and then Verify Data.

If you see an error message—search for it on our QuickBooks Desktop support site for how to fix it. If the system prompts you with, Your data has lost integrity error, you'll have to rebuild the program.

@Arno Weng

I have the same suspicions as 4Gal. Your company file is fine and the root of the problem is in the backend server that Intuit uses to convert your data. You should install the trial version of QB Desktop 2021 to be sure.

I know this hasn't been an easy process for you, Arno.

Allow me to share some details about this.

We will upgrade your company file in our backend tool and convert it to QuickBooks Online. Please note that multi-language fonts may not be supported on the Windows OS used for the conversion.

You can follow 4Gal's suggestion before moving your data.

You can also contact our QuickBooks Support Team. They have full access to your account and can review the data to ensure accurate conversions.

Here's how to contact our support:

  1. Go to the Help (?) icon at the top.
  2. On the Assistant tab, click Talk to a human.
  3. Enter your concern in the Type something field, then click the send icon.
  4. Click I still need a human.
  5. Select Get help from a human.
  6. You can either select the Chat with us or Have us call you option.

I appreciate your understanding on this matter. Please know that I'm determined to get this resolved.

Hi CharleneMaeF,

I try to use QBDT 2024 desktop to read my 2012 QBW file and it said: It is not compatible for CA version.

Where I can download QBDT 2024 desktop US version?

I have tried 2018 to convert before, but not work.

Do you think 2024 will work?

Sherrie_F

How To Export QB Premier Contractor Desktop 2012 to QBO

I want to ensure this is taken care of, Arno.

You can download a trial version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2024. Before doing so, ensure to save the backup copy of your company file to the original version because once it is opened to a higher version, it can result that the company file can't be opened to any lower version in QuickBooks.

Once everything's settled, you may check out this article for you to be able to manage your QBDT subscription: Manage QuickBooks Desktop subscription and services.

Let me know if you still need further assistance with your data or anything else about QuickBooks. I'll be glad to help. Stay safe.
