How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

Our company was using an older version of QB for a while and I finally upgraded to the current version last April.  What a freaking mistake.  This is when i found this thread.  The only way I can edit user accounts as an Admin is to disconnect the network card.  Otherwise there's no way to get past the online account message.

 

We're a multi-company organization and other corporates here are using Microsoft Business Central for accounting, so we decided to switch and pull the plug on QuickBooks.  (I'm not a big fan of MS either, but enough is enough).  We're in the final stages of cutover, and when my annual renewal for QB comes up, it will be going into the recycle bin.

 

I wish everyone had the option to dump QB as I have.  Shame on you Intuit for treating your loyal customers like this.  I'm sure losing one small company won't hurt you, but maybe this is the start of something.

I screamed it at several people I could reach on the telephone.  AND I mean SCREAMED IT.  And enunciated very carefully every single word.  I had a client whose husband was the primary contact back in 1999 when they FIRST got QuickBooks, even though he's never touched the computer with QB on it.  Fast forward to 2020 and because they use Direct Deposit now, the "primary contact" had to login and confirm some information.  The email address he used back then doesn't even exist anymore and he NEVER HAD a login in the first place.  I tried changing the primary contact. OH, heavens no! You cannot do that! I then tried to create an account for him.  That failed, because of the old email address - the company doesn't even exist anymore! I spent 2½ hrs on the phone with various people because otherwise, NO PAYROLL!   FINALLY, we were able to do an override, BUT STILL were unable to make HER the primary contact.  I've looked for alternatives, but, I loathe Sage/Peachtree even more than I loathe QuickBooks.  The rest of them that I looked at, none of them had a desktop option.  Clients in rural Iowa are NOT going to go for an online-only option.  I've also screamed THAT at QB for years.  I have ONE client on QB Online and they screw it up, OMG! It works NOTHING like the desktop edition, it's a nightmare.  Deleting something is almost impossible.  I am counting the years to retirement and there are just far too many, alas.

I have been away from the thread for a while as my Firewall solution worked well.... until recently...

QB seem to have changes, in an update, the port used to send emails from Gmail addresses... and they send the mail from port 443, which I had blocked outgoing.

 

And, hey presto, the login warning came back.

Why, Oh why Intuit are you trying to destroy your customers?

I have also been using Quckbooks desktop since 1998/1999.... and am very frustrated.

 

As for the poster who says this is a 'requirement of the law' - state your facts. My account is not in the USA. Intuit is an international company.

I had not realised that the Desktop version has now also moved to an annual licence from 2022.

That sucks!

QB Desktop 2021 will be still supported until 2024, and still work after that...

 

I have a couple of years to get a replacement. My three year upgrade cycle has been nuked by Intuit.

Our small non-profit cannot afford an expensive annual licence.

 

This is the long goodbye Intuit.

I switched to ADP years ago because using QB was such a headache. What I pay for the service is more than offset by the work they take over and do for me. I use their pay-by-pay option to pay the workman's compenstaion insurance with each payroll so no need for deposits or audits on my end. And I use their 401k for my employees retirement accounts. Well worth it and you have the added benefit of one less thing to be tied to QB.

If Intuit takes safety, security, and privacy so seriously, why is QuickBooks still using antiquated versions of Internet Explorer to display web content in the application for years after it's no longer supported. This is an old version of the MS web browser component that was dropped from support and isn't even patched anymore

I did the updates on my 2019 version with no added problems.  I firewall, and use F4 to get around the nag - not too bad of a workaround.  Of course, the reason I updated was to print out 1099-nec forms which they did not fix so I wrote 24 forms out manually.  Glad I don't have hundreds.

 

The day of exiting QB will come, but I would like to settle on a platform that is supportive of corporate tax annual filings.  Maybe I "upgrade" to 2021 and keep squeezing this stone until there's nothing left?

Brave soul! I know that the original QB 2019 Desktop up through the faitful update in late 2020 that installed the cursed log into Intuit change did not include an update to print the 1099 NEC forms since that change at the IRS came after. I'm not clear from your comment whether this latest patch that you installed does correctly fix printing 1099 NEC's, or not. Could you please clarify? 

 

In typical Intuit fashion, their latest notice regarding an urgent update fails to disclose exactly what they are updating. Had the done that back in 2020 at the time of the log in patch most of us would have avoided the problem in the first place. 

 

Given the total lack of trust in Intuit I will prepare 1099 NEC forms by hand rather than trust them to update that, and only that function.

BTW, I ended up with a second user name because for some strange reason my original password no longer worked a few weeks ago. Maybe Intuit decided they didn't want me posting anymore. LOL. Big Brother is watching.

Completely untrue statement.  I get the notification as does my co-worker and neither of us are the primary user or admin.

 

It's there to be able to track the usage of the Desktop users since they can't "monitor" us as they do with the online version.  Hello Big Brother!

The way Intuit has structured this user blog is indicitative of how they design their products. There is no continuity to threads posted here so it's difficult to follow a conversation in logical order. But, that's Intuit.

 

So, back to the question, or at least a question, that may be on the table. Some users are finding that the Alt+F4 is not closing the evil login window. That happened to me recently when I moved all of my applications to a new computer after experiencing drive failures on the old. Somehow the Alt+F4 Windows command no longer worked. Here's what works after that though.

First, try Alt+F4. If that fails click on CONTINUE. NEXT.

That should bring up a window that says ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM.

Click on SKIP, then CANCEL.

On my system that closes the bad windows and lets me access QB Desktop 2019.

I could not get QB 2019 to properly print 1099-nec forms after updating the program.  F4 workaround still works.

 

I printed 1099-nec to a PDF file, which aligns as if they are 1099-misc.  Then, copied and pasted each line from the PDF to a carefully created excel sheet.

Intuit is not goiong to let one user support another. How would they maintain control if they did that. LOL! Sorry, but you can't include links or attachments or email addresses to really provide a way for others to connect with you. The exception, of course, is if you attach something that they think supports their position on some question and is otherwise not at all critical. They tolerate this sort of stuff because they know no one pays any attention except the pissed off users. You are much better off filing complaints with the Federal Trade Commission, the Better Business Bureau, or a state regulatory agency if your state has something like that.

Let me make it up to you by ensuring you'll be able to attach your files when posting in the Community space. 

 

First and foremost, I admire you for sharing a workaround in printing 1099-NEC in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @forcedLOGINsux. Allow me to chime in and provide some insights on how to get around this issue.

 

When attaching a file in your post, please make sure you've selected the Choose File box to attach your file. This way, the file will be visible when posting your comments on the Community page. I've attached a screenshot below for your visual reference.

If this is not the case, I'd recommend accessing your Community account in a private or incognito window and attaching the file from there. This way, we can verify if this is a browser caching issue.

 

The browser uses cache to help load web pages faster the next time you visit a site. However, too much of it causes issues that can affect the performance of your account. Using a private window helps us in identifying the root cause of this as this doesn't save any data files. 

 

You can utilize these keyboard shortcuts in opening a private window. Press keys: 

 

  • Ctrl + Shift + N for Google Chrome browser
  • Ctrl + Shift + P for Mozilla Firefox & Microsoft Edge browsers.
  • Command + Shift + N for Safari browser.

 

If you’re able to attach your file via an incognito window, I’d suggest clearing your regular browser's cache to refresh the system. If the issue remains, I recommend using other supported browsers. This way, we can check if this is a browser-specific issue. 

 

Additionally, please ensure to restart your QBDT after updating it for the updates to take effect. Rebooting your computer also helps isolating the issue.

If you want to pring 1099 forms and not wanting to deal with the update issues

 

1) Get all the info updated and ready to print

2) Make an image backup of the system where you installed your Quickbooks

3) Updates your QB

4) Print your 1099

5) Restore image to get back your un-updated QB.

 

Work around on the update and able to print the 1099.

 

I guess it is time to install Quickbooks on a VM for easy snapshot .....

Alt-F4 stopped working for me a few days ago, too.

 

Found that if you right-click on the upper border of that "You need to log in" pop-up window, the context menu which then appears gives you an option to close the window. This has worked for me so far. (Interestingly, the option is described as "Alt-F4" in the context-menu.)

 

I have not installed any updates since running into the Login problem last year, so I'm curious why the behavior has changed now. The only recent event which comes to mind is that I recently installed Turbo Tax Business, which then accessed the Quickbooks company file to import data. Perhaps it's just a shared function that is used by Intuit apps in common, and a new version came in when I installed the tax app. My trust is now pretty low, however.

Thanks for taking the time to offer assistance.  I would ask you - have YOU tried to attach an excel sheet to a forum post?  What I get when I attempt to do so is a deliberate message from the site giving me a list of allowed file formats (.jpg .pdf etc) and .xls is not on the list and the file does not post.  Do you get a different result when trying to choose an .xls file as an attachment?  Can you please post a test .xls file to verify it can be done?

 

I have attached the .xls file to this post, with the chosen file as you describe, and I clicked the "post" button with the following error from intuit (see attachment).

Thanks for updating us on this, forcedLOGINsux. I know it's rough when you can't upload your Excel file in the Community space. I'm here to share some insights.

 

The.xls extension isn't supported when adding an attachment in the Community forum. I'd suggest converting your Excel file to the accepted type, namely:.jpg,.gif,.png, and pdf.

 

Once done, you can now upload the Excel sheet by clicking the Choose File box. Then, click on Post.

 

Also, you can always visit our View All Help page for reference. There, you can read articles that will guide you in completing your other future tasks in QuickBooks.

 

Please come back and keep us posted on your progress in uploading your file, forcedLOGINsux. It's my priority to ensure this gets resolved.

Well, of course you realize that just posting a .JPG, or .PDF of an EXCEL file pretty much defeats the purpose of the posting in the first plase since the poster's intent is to provide functionality to the community of other users and that functionality is NOT conveyed in a .PDF. So, the real effect of not allowing the posting of the native EXCEL is to deny community members support from other community members. Right? 

 

Nothing personal. We all know you just work there and supporting the company line is your job. But, many of us in the community of users would prefer to be able to actually help each other rather than being dependant on just having Big Brother Intuit for support. And if you have followed this thread at all you will understand that BBI made a stealthy change a while back that a great many of us strongly oppose since its effect is to give BBI access to our desktops and files. Which, by the way is something that the FBI can't get without a warrant. Understand?

As usual, Intuit misses the entire point, which was that the person who designed an Excel workaround was nice enough to try to share a WORKING Excel file since the 2021 QB 1099 process failed.  Uploading an Excel file saved as a pretty JPEG or PDF helps no one.

Hello -

It's been a while but for me I solved the problem back a while ago and wanted to see if it consistently removed the annoying message "you need to login to your account."  It appears QB D.Top has included new code or script that confirms an internet connection.  However, in my case I'm connected using CAT 5 cable so I simply unplug the cable from my network card before loading QB and it loads without the message.  Once loaded I plug the CAT 5 cable back in and pull down my bank data just fine. Now using wireless device it should work the same.  Word of caution though - make sure you know the necessary passwords to reconnect to the internet through your router or you might not be able to connect until the networks system administrator gets you back up and running.  This should not be a problem for homes or small businesses that know the necessary passwords.   I thought about this because if they cut an accountant or anyone working on a company file where no internet is avail. or only a public network (for fear of security breach) there might be liability for imposing an undue burden or forcing a user onto a network they deem not to be secure.  Hope this works for you all even though it's a royal pain.  I am preparing to make a move from QB's so when the intrusiveness gets to a point I'll be done with em.  This includes exporting all of my registers to Excel as well as downloading all data from my bank now in .CSV format and saving that in Excel as well.  I hope this helps.

This may be only a temporary solution.  Once QB realizes this they may try to implement a timed interval check so that although circumventing the message initially the message may appear after a few minutes as they check again but at that point unless they give the option to close the pop up and proceed onward without interruption then I think that would be going too far.  Also they own the program rights but who has exclusive data rights after all it is the user who inputs the confidential data so they should have some decision as to when and what instance they wish QB to have access to this data (for example troubleshooting corrupted database problems and the like)  QB might argue that since the data is stored in a proprietary format which of their development they have right to access it.  r they might claim even truthfully that they are not able to obtain this data.  Who knows its probably buried somewhere in a 50, 500 or 5000 page software licensing agreement written by the architects of the affordable health care act.  Still, if I'm hired to shovel bull crap and the person that hires me to the job gives me a shovel they own - I still expect to be paid for my labor without additional bull crap even though I used their shovel.  Of course this could and would be argued by those who enjoy such things so that the ethical, moral and right legal decision would become so obfuscated that we would be convinced that every orator and debater concerned was given one of the proposed free pipes talked about on the news!
