How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

This thread just keeps going; with good reason. The only thing that worked for me was reloading the 2019 version and turning off auto updates, which prevented the patch that made the forced login necessary. The day I can ditch all Intuit products will be a good day; just need QB for a few more years without headaches and when I find a tax software that is tolerably even with turbotax I'll ditch that too. This has been one big turnoff to anything Intuit.

Reloading the 2019 CD and turning off updates is the only thing that for sure worked and for several years now to turn off the forced login.

I believe you are asking for the impossible.

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

I am using QB premiere Non-profit 2021, have been a QB user for 25 years. No salaries, no taxes, simple accounting.

I managed, way back in this thread, to stop QB calling home by using QB firewall blocking of the ports they use.

I do not use, nor want to use online services. I have not updated since Release 4P (R4_54) and do not intend to.

I have no integrates apps... all is offline, except I go online to email invoices, and print locally on my home/office network.

It works for me... although it just asks for local login now and again. That is also a nuisance as I am the only user.

This is what I want, bookkeeping on a local device, backed up locally. Not cloud based. Sadly, Intuit do not like this as we do not pay by subscription. I was happy buying a full product every 3 years. Now I will stay on this until I can find another product for our non-profit.

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

Thank you for this!  I followed the pinned instructions but was still getting the "intuit login" screen every 7 days.

I think the settings you outlined will fix this pain in the rear. Lets hope it does anyway...

Thanks again!

I am using QuickBooks 2020 and haven't been asked to sign in, in 2 months.

This is what I did:

Run> shell:startup
Run> shell:common startup
Remove anything that refers to QuickBooks in these folders. (in my case):
Intuit Data Protect
QuickBooks Update Agent
QuickBooks_Standard_21

Run> Services.msc and Disable:
Intuit QuickBooks FCS
QBCFMonitorService
QBIDPService

Lastly go to:
Local Disk (c:)> Program Files(86)> Common Files> Intuit> QuickBooks> QBUpdate: and renamed the QBUpdate.exe file qbupdateold.exe

So far so good

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

I posted a solution for this problem on December 18, 2022 at 03:17 PM and everyone has ignored it since except that it was called bull, I was accused of working for Intuit, taking hostages, etc. Then everyone just went on acting like no one ever gave a solution. It is possible that the solution I gave will not work for every operating system or computer, but it has worked for me for the year and half since then. I even went on to give a second change that one could make if the first one did not work (given 12/18/22) but I never even had to do the second change as the first one has worked since.

I went back to your post on Dec.18, 2022. It was a bit confusing to say the least. I think, for some people, dealing with the Firewall can be a bit daunting.

@napleseye - Fascinating. I just went back and re-read your post. Pretty sure the two (rather random) angry replies to it were intended as responses to earlier Intuit Employee boilerplate nonsense (that condescending blather that periodically punctuates this discussion), and not to your solution -- or at least that's the only way they make any kind of sense at all

I'm on a mac, so the details are different, but I am successfully running QB 2022 without having to log in online by using a similar method: I have a firewall-type program called Little Snitch that can block outgoing connections and have disallowed QB from making any outgoing connections at all. If anyone else is on a mac and wanting more details, let me know.

To AndyTJ, I thought I gave pretty straightforward step-by-step directions.

In any case, if LekkerByDieSee successfully fixed a mac using an analogous strategy, maybe we have pretty much slayed this problem at this point.

I agree!  I think it's just one more way that "big tech" is trying to harvest our information and control us!  Wish I could find something comparable.  I hate QB Online, but I do honestly like QB Desktop and it's hard to find something better at this point!  But that's a great suggestion about reporting to the Attorney General's office and I plan on doing so per your post!

Also searching for a replacement.  16 years user and Intuit just vandalized my company file, lied they couldn't fix it, then admitted they could but refuse.

The Intuit culture is despicable.  I've lost to much time on their bugs.  I'm ready to invest in learning new bookkeeping software that isn't a scam.

They are lying about compliance.  They just want to spelunk personal data for business loan needs.

MaryAnn_E,

you said:

"We're unable to rollback an update to a previous version."

As a software engineer I can say conclusively that you are lying.  Unequivocally, maliciously, lying.  All software development involves version control and rollback for testing.

It's my sincerest wish that everyone in your life lies to you as easily as you lie to us.

They are securing the ability to scan your financials and decide whether to post business loan adverts.

Everyone please stop ignoring obvious lies like this is for security and call them out on this.  The culture of Intuit employees lying to customers won't change until we change it.

I have come to the conclusion that Intuit seriously dislikes customers that are concerned about security and truly understand software and risks.
This thread is a testament to that.
I was already using Quicken when Intuit developed the first version of Quickbooks in1998.
I switched all corp accounts to Quickbooks because of time tracking and invoicing. It was great. As prices increased, support and security decreased in my opinion.

Two potential work-arounds.
1) Build a VM with an older version of Windows and Quickbooks Desktop - do NOT connect this VM to the internet - no browsers - no email connectons. Nothing to invite or accidentally create an intrusion.
You must protect access to this VM! You will need to make changes to the registry depending upon the version you go to, a professional will be able to make those changes. If you do not know how to do this hire someone you trust!

You may need to rebuild your company - or company files, but we are coming to year end - so closing and starting fresh may not be the same level of headache as later. Just make sure you have backups of reports and other important historical data.

2) Switch to Quicken  - they are no longer a part of INTUIT. The interface and reporting function is a bit clunky from Quickbooks Desktop, but your data is your data.  You can, if you choose, integrate with online banks and investment accounts.

How to get QB to stop asking me to log into my Intuit Account

I have QB history similar to Sqrlzrus and am similarly looking for an alternative. Really a shame because I very much liked QuickBooks up until just about when this (now very lengthy) thread began.

Thoughts on your two suggestions:

1) Oracle offers VirtualBox, a free virtual machine software package, that I have been using to run Windows 10 on my Linux computer. Does just fine and should support your recommendation to avoid Internet connections.

2) I am investigating GnuCash and Manager.io as free, no-baggage alternatives with the PROFOUND hope that one of them works out. Both are available for Windows, OS X, and Linux. Biggest uncertainty is whether I can export a couple of decades worth of data out of QB and into the successor program.

You can use the trial version of QB Desktop to access your historical data for good. Then start your data in the new program from scratch.

I checked for online reviews of the alternate software "My Bookkeeper Software" that FrustratedUser18 posted about. 22% 1 star reviews on Amazon. Doesn't look like a good alternative to try, unfortunately.

I'm looking at this and it seems to be a promising alternative.  What is the substance of the negative reviews you are seeing? Of course no one else will be as good as QBooks, but if they cover all the basics, the bells and whistles will come as they get more users and more feedback.  In looking through their blog on their website, it appears that they are listening to users.

I have been personally in touch with the developer of that software. Very nice fellow and very responsive. Interested in constructive feedback on how to improve the product.  I haven't started using it yet but plan to.

This is the gist of the negative reviews on Amazon:

1) Can't get it to load or operate on computer

2) Error messages popping up from an unrelated software that has nothing to do with Bookkeeper

3) Calling for help trying to install and they wanted $9.99 for the support (numerous complaints for this one)

4) Having problems with the software not working and support's response was to pay to upgrade to the next version

5) Unable to setup own chart of accounts

6) Got a new computer and unable to restore backed up data

7) Tried using it for a year but it wasn't giving the info that was needed by business
