SECURITY CONCERNS - how can Intuit Quickbooks ignore this?
With so many government agencies at risk due to the SolarWinds Orion Supply Chain Compromise. With cybersecurity agencies CISA, NSA, CERT and more sending warnings of compromised systems - on CONNECTED NETWORKS - you ignore your customer base that had the intention of protecting their own data by limiting access to the internet and installing a DESKTOP solution.

PLEASE STOP FORCING DESKTOP USERS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CLOUD!
Thanks for the reply however, I tried this and it hasn't addressed the ORIGINAL question.
I don't feel it is necessary to setup and log into an account. We use this as a stand alone program and wish to keep it that way! I feel that this totally unnecessary and intrusive request opens our computers and accounts to "prying eyes". We do not use, or intend on using, your online services.
I have also submitted feedback on this via the help menu.
It seems that "the company" (Intuit) has no intention on allowing users a choice - do we want an online account or do we not want an online account. If we choose not to have an online account because we don't use online services then this stupid question that pops up every seven days should go away!
I will NEVER sign up for an account for our club's books.
Thank you Jen_D for your reply, but sadly your recommendation had been tried, ages ago, by the community.
However... your recommendation is counter-intuitive.
What gives?
I finally got it to stop, on Windows I went to the Windows Defender Firewall advanced setting and blocked QBW32.EXE and QBW32PremierWholesale.exe in both inbound and outbound rules. The second one will depend on which version of QB you are running. I did this 3 weeks ago and no pop-ups since then.
We have decided to not update QB and will never purchase another Intuit product. We are evaluating open source solutions, if anyone has a suggestion for one we would appreciate it. We have abandoned the idea of moving the data to the new system, would rather leave one computer with QB for when we need to look at old data.
Accidental double posting
Question:
If you goto help > internet connection setup > change this to no internet option
What are the ramifications of this?
Will this stop the pop up?
Hello there, @matthewamo.
Changing the option to No Internet Connection won't stop the pop-up. Connecting to the Internet Connection will help you run payroll and update QuickBooks.
Currently, the option to disable the pop-up login to the Intuit account is unavailable. This update helps ensure that the person accessing the company file is authorized. Logging in to your Intuit account and verifying your identity will help protect your data and account.
Also, I encourage checking our Help articles page to learn some tips and tricks in managing your QBDT account. From there, you can read great articles that can guide you through the steps by steps process.

@Maybelle_S - Holy **** - In the big picture, connecting to the Internet does not protect our data and account!!! Instead it is a security hole that could ultimately become an avenue for hackers to access our data or install back doors. The Desktop program when one does not run Payroll has zero need to access the Internet, the source of all manner of computer problems. If Solarwinds, a major software company selling expensive data center software that includes security software, can be hacked and users of the software compromised simply by running an update- can Intuit fully and honestly guarantee that our connecting to it will never cause issues or breach our privacy? Of course it cannot - no business can. And so we buy Desktop software and do not connect it to the Internet unnecessarily. Some of us may choose to not install any further updates if the software is working well for our needs, until years in the future when some hardware change or operating system change causes the software to no longer work. That is a level of security that Intuit is no longer offering. Make logging into Intuit an option for Administrators to set - if they feel it will help secure their data, great - let them force a login - maybe they have concerns about internal bad actors, more than external bad actors. But for those of us who likely are the only ones accessing our QB installation, it is the external bad actors we care about, so do not force us to open the door to them - instead make it an optional setting for Administrators to set. If you give this idea the common sense test, you will admit that it is the right way to go. Thank you.
This sounds like it might work. I have noticed (at someone's suggestion) that if I disconnect the wifi connection before opening QB, it does not ask for an Intuit login - but that solution is awkward as I have other uses of the Internet for the machine. Instead, this solution is a bit like turning off the wifi just for the QB app, leaving other uses of the Internet available. I will give it a try. Thanks, NoForcedAcct!
All of these unproductive answers that avoid the ORIGINAL question is just too sad! I wonder what they do to force their employees to drink this Kool-Aid???
Makes me think of Dilbert! Is there a pointy haired boss working there????

So, my having a desktop computer on premises is not secure? You are saying I need to verify with Intuit that this is really me? It was bad enough that I needed to have a company login to my stand alone file.
All I want from Intuit are bug fixes to my purchased software that is NOT connected to the cloud.
My company software was safe IN MY HANDS.
I did not buy the online version as I wanted a safe offline version.
I (and MANY OTHERS) do not need or want to verify myself to Intuit. That is why we have local login passwords to computers.
Please do not try to be a nanny state, allow us to look after our own files. We do not want them backed up into your cloud either - but that is another issue.

Maybelle_S, Thanks for chiming in as a Moderator. You can now be part of the problem, or part of the solution. It is simple - QB customers DO NOT WANT TO LOGIN to Intuit to use THEIR OWN QB PROGRAM ON THEIR OWN PC. We cannot make it any clearer than that. Tell your managers, tell your directors, tell marketing & sales, tell the C-offices. Hundreds have told QB this fact. Thousands remain frustrated. QB has a major problem identified by many, many customers. Will you listen and help correct the problem? You have a choice, be part of the solution, or be part of the Borg. Choose wisely. Your customers await.
Alt+f4 doesn't work for me either. Quickbooks just forced this update on me last night, and I got the popup to log in to an account for the first time. Today I found this thread and tried Alt+f4 but nothing happens. The only way I've found to close that popup is to use the task manager to close QB entirely. Now there's no way for me to access my own company file on my own PC without logging in to Intuit, opening a security hole, and giving Intuit access to all my data. Intuit, you need to fix this mistake now.
This is the FIRST time I have ever posted. It's because I wasted more than half a day this week redownloading and reistalling Quickbooks for 10 separate small companies to try to rollback the update requiring me to now login using an Intuit ID and password in ADDITION to each company's separate password. But of course the "no update" settings were reset, so updates to 2019 were immedaitely added. None of the workarounds posted here actually stop it, including setting the password to 90 days, turning off access to the Internet through "Help" (a setting which does not appear to get saved), turing off integrated applications, turning off pop-ups, not Alt + F4 on the po-up, etc. Only right clicking on the top border of the pop-up then cancel get rid of it EACH time. This data and access grab by Intuit means I'll have to wait for this stupid pop up to appear EACH TIME I SWITCH AMONG MY 10 COMPANIES, ALL DAY EVERY DAY. What an incredible waste of MY time while INCREASING SECURITY RISK by connecting to the Internet and to Intuit's network. I used to recommend Quickbooks to others. No more. And no more updates, ever. Updates have screwed up my reports and settings in the past, but this new intrusion is unacceptable. Intuit can count on me to tell this story about why others should NOT buy Quickbooks, and why I'm going elsewhere for software. And guess what? To even set up my "ID" to post this took several tries including sending codes to my email, requiring my phone number THEN getting bounced out for "too many redirects". Terrible system, ridiculous double login requirement for MY OWN DESKTOP COMPUTER'S DATA.
Thank you to NoForced Acct for recommending using Windows Defender Firewall to prevent QB from accessing Intuit. Nothing else I tried worked. Never having used the Windows Defender Firewall interface, I followed instructions on "How to Block a Program with Windows Firewall" on WikiHow. After creating 4 separate blocking rules: inbound and outbound each (as you said) for QBW32.EXE and QBW32PremierProfessional (my version).EXE, I've tried opening 3 of my 10 QB companies, and now the Intuit demand for a second ID and password does not appear. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. The update still cleared various reports and settings that have to be redone on 10 companies, but now that (I hope) it can't access Intuit, there should be no more updates while I figure out which accounting software to switch to.
I was doing fine for a while waiting to use the F4 solution but after refusing updates for a few days QB said I only had 3 more refusals and then QB forced an update and now I'm getting the requirement to log in on the rest of my QB accounts that had been free of this bother. It seems all QB has done is used this thread to close down solutions rather than accommodate Desktop users' plea to not force needless log in. I could not even find my password so wasted time on this when it is needless. I will attempt this firewall solution but I'm about done with Intuit. They are losing me as a QB client, and I'll be looking for a different tax program after two decades with them.
You're still not listening. Many people choose to control physical access to an offline machine as their means of security. Dozens of different people in this thread have clearly described their objection to the intrusive nonsense that is the subject of this thread. I, like so many others, am angry with Intuit over this, and I am praying for a class action lawsuit to join. I paid you (repeatedly) for an offline product that you keep forcibly crippling. I'm disgusted and becoming vengeful. Intuit vastly underestimates the level of ill-will this is creating.

Thankyou for highlighting this solution, A nice Christmas present!
I have just tested on QBW2019 and QB2021 Premiere versions, only blocking outgoing traffic (do not try to call home dear!) on QBW32.exe and QBW32Premiere.......exe and both have not asked for a login to Intuit.
(Using the basic Windows Defender Firewall Advanced Outbound rule - Add a new rule). They will be shown at the top of the list, so easy to delete if you have a problem later.
It is sad we have to resort to firewall blocking... I think by leaving the incoming unblocked you can still download critical security updates, if you want to.
Quick update... QBW blocking firewall outwards also blocks you from sending any email invoices from the system of course... but you can save them as PDF (Print/save as PDF) and send manually later from your normal email system, leaving QBW as offline.

Final testing done... Intuit are calling "home" (To Amazon and Akamai) on port 443 If your firewall blocks outgoing TCP port 443 on the two .exe files above that seems to prevent the Intuit Logon screen appearing on start, and still enables you to use email sending of invoices, and downloading of program updates (if you want)
This is not a "nice" way to help us, but I now have control over my accounting software (and hope this reminder does not magically reappear)
I am not sure what else is calling on port 443 from QB32 (yes this is 2021 and Intuit is still on 32bit software.....), so am not sure what else is affected. But, my accounting is not interrupted.
If you need help setting up your firewall, send me a PM and I will try to lead you through it. I now have my computer logging dropped connections at the firewall so I could see what was going on.
Intuit... Please fix this, we are happy with local security. If you need a one time license activation that is fine, but not a regular call home to log in. I have been waiting over half a year to get this fixed.

Flyingkiwi, thank you! Just added the rules! Hopefully as you said.... And if alternative software is available, next update will be moving away from QB.

Hi ITGuy,
Have you found a way to bypass the message and disable? I'm currently locked out of my Quickbooks for failure to log in
I used the Windows Defender Firewall rules as described to stop this annoying popup. It really sucks that we need block QuickBooks in our firewall to stop something we never wanted in the first place. I wish QuickBooks actually listened to their customers. I have been using QuickBooks since the 90s and I have been complaining about all the annoying popups for marketing etc. ever since QuickBooks first added them and QuickBooks has never listened to any of my complaints. I don't see why they would listen now. I wish there was a better product out there because I would probably change if it existed.
@NLMadmin wrote:Hi ITGuy,

Do you mean logging in to your local account, or the annoying Intuit web login.
If you mean the login to Intuit account, then do the firewall solution.
If you are locked out from your local company file, that is another problem entirely.
What a LAZY answer. He ask a straight up question, many of us have, and that is your answer..
Really how do we stop the pop-up???
