I am having trouble with trying to print checks but it keeps coming up with double sided and will not print.

Hello there, @davidmac48.

Due to variations in printers, the design of invoices, checks, or reports may be altered when printed. Additionally, there may be instances where printing becomes problematic. However, there's no need to worry, as we have customized solutions to address specific printing issues.

That being said, allow me to assist you in preventing your checks from being double-sided so you can successfully print them. Please follow these steps I've narrowed down for your convenience:

  1. Open any Report.
  2. Hit on the print icon on the report to open the Print Settings.
  3. Choose Presets then select either Last Used Setting or Default Setting, whichever one wasn't selected before. If you don't see Presets, select Show Details.
  4. When done, close the report and print the check again.

I'll be adding this article for a detailed step-by-step process and to know how to fix other print issues: Troubleshoot printing in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

If the problem continues, it's possible that there's an issue with the data in your company file, which is causing the reconciled transactions to disappear. I suggest using the Verify and Rebuild utility. This tool scans for data issues in the company file and automatically fixes them.

Beforehand, make sure your QuickBooks Desktop is up-to-date. This way, you always have its latest features and fixes.

Follow the steps below on how to verify data:

  1. On the top menu, click File.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Data.
  4. Click OK when QuickBooks doesn't detect any problem with your data.
  5. If Verify finds an issue with your data, you'll be prompted to Rebuild Now or View Errors.
  6. Click Close or View Errors and take note of the specific error message.

Next, here's how to rebuild data:

  1. On the top menu, click File.
  2. Choose Utilities.
  3. Select Rebuild Data then click OK to close all windows.
  4. QuickBooks will prompt you to create a backup before rebuilding your company file. Choose OK to proceed with the backup, or select Cancel to skip the backup and continue rebuilding.
  5. Run Rebuild Data again to make sure there's no error.
    - If you haven't set up any backup preferences in QuickBooks, you will be prompted to update them. Simply select Backup Preference, make any necessary edits, and then choose OK.
    - Once the backup process is complete, you can either select Show in Finder to find the backup file or choose OK if you're finished.
  6. Once the rebuild's finished, select OK.

Additionally, I've included an article that'll help you learn how to add an electronic signature for checks and paychecks: Create and use electronic signature for checks and paychecks in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Please don't hesitate to post your concerns here in the Community or leave a reply below if you need further assistance printing your checks in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac. It would be my pleasure to ensure a smooth process for you. Take care.

I am having trouble with trying to print checks but it keeps coming up with double sided and will not print.

We've just recently installed QuickBooks Desktop 2024.  I'm trying to print the first check and keep getting this same issue.  I've done everything you outlined ... but cannot get the "double sided" switch to activate.  It is showing in the 'on' position ... but grayed out so I can't get to it.

I've tried the process of bringing up a report and going through the printer layout ... no luck.

I've confirmed that my software is the latest update.

I've verified data and getting confirmation that data is good.

Attached screen shot shows what I can see for check printing ... I see the same thing when I'm trying to print reports.  Can't get the 'double sided' switch to go active so I can turn it off.

Checks print fine for another company that is set up in QuickBooks Online ... but not printing for two smaller companies that we have on QB Desktop 2024.

Thanks for any assistance.

I am having trouble with trying to print checks but it keeps coming up with double sided and will not print.

I appreciate the steps you've performed, @osfocory17.

I understand that turning off the double-sided when printing is essential to your business. Let me provide some details to help you with this matter.

Since all the steps you've performed didn't work, I suggest utilizing a third-party app that can connect to QBDT Mac.

I will guide you to our QuickBooks Desktop App Store, where you can select the perfect third-party application.

Proceed with the following steps:

  1. Go to the QuickBooks App Store.
  2. From the QuickBooks Compatibility section, choose the QuickBooks Desktop version you're using.
  3. Type in the clue word of the specific app you're looking for in the Search field and click the magnifying glass to search.
  4. Install the 3rd party apps and follow the on-screen instructions.

Moreover, I'm adding this article for your reference in troubleshooting problems when printing: Troubleshoot printing in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Return to this post if you have other concerns regarding printing checks in QBDT Mac. The Community is always here to help.

I am having the exact same problem. I do not understand the link you provided for a third party solution. Are you saying that there is no fix for this problem for 2024 desktop for mac? Thank you

I am having trouble with trying to print checks but it keeps coming up with double sided and will not print.

I'm here to share some information about printing checks, @Ren2216

Can you tell me exactly the error you've encountered when trying to print checks? When trying to print checks in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac are you presented with the error printing checks is not allowed with two-sided duplex printing turned on and the check preview is blank? If so, please take note that this behavior is caused by the printer driver and the macOS. QuickBooks has no control over the software installed on the computer.

In the meantime, you can run the QuickBooks Print & Print Repair Tool from the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Check out this article for more information: Fix PDF and Print problems with QuickBooks Desktop. You can also set the preset option on the Print Check window to switch from Default to Last Used

In case you're having a different error and you've already tried all the troubleshooting steps presented on this thread, then I suggest reaching out to our Customer Support team. They have the tools to isolate the issue you're having in a secure environment and help you with resolving them.

Here's how:

  1. From your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac account, click the Help menu and choose QuickBooks Help.
  2. Click on Contact Us and provide a brief description of your issue and then click on Continue.
  3. Sign in to your Intuit account and follow the prompts until you'll prompted with a few support options available at that time.

You can check this article for more information about the different types of support we offer and their availability: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support.

Then, check out the following article for more information about  writing, modifying, and printing checks: Create, modify, and print checks in QuickBooks Desktop. It'll guide you with writing checks for different purposes, voiding or deleting, and printing checks.

I am having trouble with trying to print checks but it keeps coming up with double sided and will not print.

Thanks for your response. I found this article and solved my problem by adding a generic printer that enabled me to disable duplex printing. I use the generic printer whenever i need to print checks, and the specific printer when printing everything else.

I am having trouble with trying to print checks but it keeps coming up with double sided and will not print.

Is this printer connected via USB?

I have more than one printer, both on WIFI.  How will the Mac know which printer to print to if I just try to add a generic printer?

I am also having this problem, just bought a brand new MacBook Air, transferred company file over from a Windows machine, but refusing to let me print checks due to 2-sided printer being on.

I even tried your link, followed instructions and turned off 2-sided printing for my Brother printer, but still stays on by default in Quickbooks and other applications.

How do I fix this?  This may be deal breaker for me if I cannot print checks.

Since you have carefully followed the troubleshooting steps provided by Ren2216 for resolving the printing issue, yet you're still encountering the same thing, and given the issue isn't isolated to QuickBooks and is affecting other applications on your MacBook Air as well, this suggests a more systemic issue, relating to your printer or its configuration.

In this case, I recommend consulting your printer service providers for further assistance. They have specialized knowledge and tools to diagnose and resolve issues affecting your printer's performance across multiple applications. Additionally, they may be able to guide you through more advanced troubleshooting steps or suggest solutions tailored to your specific printer model and operating system.

I am having trouble with trying to print checks but it keeps coming up with double sided and will not print.

Ms, Erika,

I was able to resolve it!

It wasn't taking effect for my Canon MF-4880DW and my Brother MFC-J870DW, BUT,

I came home and tried it on my Epson WF-2660, and it did work!  MS Word and all other apps all defaulted to 2-sided printing off.  And once I opened up Quickbooks, and selected the Epson printer, I was able to start printing checks!

Please review this YouTube link below, where I followed the instructions:

I will go back to my office soon and verify to see if the settings will work for the Canon and Brother printers.

This tutorial will show you how to modify the default printer settings in Mac. It will also cover setting up custom printer presets. This tutorial was created using Yosemite but will also work for previous versions of Mac including Mavericks, Mountain Lion, Lion, Snow Leopard, and more! Here is ...
