I am setting up a chart of accounts. I'm making sub-accounts, but after I click save, the account doesn't indent. Is there a setting for that?

Hello,

When making the sub-account, are you making sure to check the box and select the "parent" account that it's a sub of?

I was having the same problem and think I just figured it out.  Sort your Chart of Accounts by the TYPE column.

I am still unable to get my account list to print with the sub-accounts indented and I've changed my sort to TYPE.  What else can I try to get this to work?

Good day, @dbgsky3.

You can sort the list of your accounts according to their names so you can print it with indented sub-accounts. I'm here to help you accomplish this.

  1. Go to Accounting.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Double-click the NAME column.

Additionally, I've included a couple of screenshots below for your visual reference. Once done, just click the Print icon so you can print your account list.

Lastly, I've also added this article that'll help you handle your future task after organizing your accounts: Remove Accounts you no Longer Use.

If there's anything else that I can help you with, please let me know in the comment section down below. I'll be always around ready to help.

It appears the solutions shown are for online.  None of them worked for me.   I have the same problem with Enterprise Desktop.  How does one indent the CoA in that version?

I'll be glad to help you change your view setting in your Chart of Accounts, @Tim1448.

We can simply follow these to view your sub-accounts in an indent position in QuickBooks Desktop:

  1. Go to List and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. In the bottom part of the page, click the Account drop-down arrow and select Hierarchical View
  3. Click OK.

In addition, if you wanted to view all transactions associated with a specific account, you can simply right-click the account and select QuickReport.

That's it! Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to be of assistance. Wishing you and your business continued success in all that you do.

You can make the View of the Chart of accounts indent sub accounts by clicking on the menu on the bottom:  Accounts/Hierarchical view or Flat view
