I have a contractor I can not generate a 1099 filing for yet I've paid him $26,000 in 2021. Could you help?

I can see I've paid this contractor $26 k in 2021, and the contractor is set up appropriately in QB but I can't generate a 1099 filing for him? what am I doing wrong, as I have been able to generate a filing for all other contractors.

Have you checked to make sure the payment was allocated correctly to the the proper account? You will see he was paid but is it as a contractor expense or some other account? That will usually cause the 1099 to have issues. Hope this helps.

Let's review and make sure the contractor is set eligible for 1099. This way, you can file 1099 for him.

 

Here's how:

  1. Go to Vendors
  2. Select the vendor you want to track and open their profile.
  3. Select Edit.
  4. Select and check the Track payments for 1099 checkbox

The penalty is $260 per return. However, if the IRS determines that you have intentionally disregarded this filing, the penalty increases to a staggering $530 per return. In some cases of intentional disregard, the IRS can also tack on additional penalties
