I am trying to import an IIF file and it continually fails. Is there someone who can help me get this started? Quickbooks Desktop support has been unhelpful. I'm willing to pay for the help! [email address removed].
Hello there, GVNina. It's my top priority to bring your Intuit Interchange Format (IIF) files to QuickBooks Desktop.
Before doing so, I'd like to know if you've encountered any error messages while importing IIF files. This way, I'll be able to check for any open investigation that relates to your concern.
On the other hand, when importing IIF files to QuickBooks Desktop, import failure may occur due to errors in the file. Let's ensure we use the correct IIF file format and then import again.
You can download the toolkit to know the proper formatting. Refer to this article: IIF Overview: import kit, sample files, and headers.
In addition, you can check out this article to learn about IIF import and export limitations: Export, import, and edit IIF files.
Let me know if you have any further questions about importing your data into QuickBooks Desktop, and I'll be happy to assist you.
I'm so frustrated, I hope that you can help me!
I DO get an error message that the import failed. When I click on either the Review or Open file button, I get nothing.
I have the IIF Toolkit, but it doesn't help me. I read the manual, but it doesn't actually say what to do if the file doesn't import. I sent the file to QB Tech Support, and they said they can import it, so it must be a problem with the file. However, I have no control over the file and can only work with what they send. The file is from Stripe credit card processing, and I know that QB can import their downloads. I really don't understand why I am having so much difficulty.
Some other person at QB support said that the problem is I have to map the accounts; however, when I called back to ask for help in mapping the accounts, I was told that isn't necessary.
I have attached a pdf of the file.
It is QB Desktop Pro Plus 2024. I'm trying to import an IIF file from Stripe, our credit card processor.
I appreciate the effort taken to ensure you can successfully import your files into QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @GVNina.
Importing IIF files in QBDT is possible. However, if your file came from a third-party app, consider checking the file format and the maximum number of lists entered, as this can be a reason for unsuccessful importing.
You can refer to the IIF Import Kit to compare the header and other data fields with the ones on your file. This can help spot any formatting issues that lead to the error message.
Since you encountered the error message File not imported, click the Review Now button to view and resolve any errors detected in your IIF file.
Here's how:
Check this helpful link for more details: Resolve IIF Import in QBDT 2019 and later.
QuickBooks doesn't offer technical support for IIF file import. I suggest contacting Stripe's support for further assistance. On the other hand, you can also seek further help from an IT expert to help successfully import the file.
Alternatively, you might consider utilizing a third-party importer tool that can directly import IIF files from Stripe to QBDT. You can explore the Marketplace to find this tool.
Additionally, there are other tasks you can carry out with your IIF files, such as bulk editing. Refer to this article for more detailed information: Tasks you can do with IIF files.
Don't hesitate to reach out if you have further questions about managing files. I'll be around to help. Stay safe.
Another option, open the IIF file in Notepad, remove the header and footer row and save the file as a .csv file. Then use the trial version of TP Importer for Desktop to import your data into QB Desktop. If you decide to use the program later, it's a $199 one time license and you can get $100 cashback to purchase it via a partner.

I do get error messages. I have looked at the manual for the IIF Import Kit and it doesn't make a bit of sense to me.
I can get downloads in csv format, so that part is easy. I tried the TP Importer and it would work except that it requires a unique transaction number that is limited to 11 characters. I have a unique transaction number, but it is much longer!
Thanks for the suggestion.
Thank you, Michaela. I have tried this. When I click on "review now" nothing happens. When I try to open the file, there's no format to open it in.
I have read the Import manual, and it makes no sense to me at all.
Stripe doesn't offer support for IIF downloads. I've spent nearly 2 months going back and forth between Stripe and Quickbooks, each company blaming the other. There is 1 3rd-party company that can handle our transactions, but they are much too expensive for our little pickleball club!
If you are able to take the time to do a screen-share with me, I would give it one more try. Otherwise, I am going to have to give up trying to use QB.
Thank you,
it requires a unique transaction number that is limited to 11 characters. I have a unique transaction number, but it is much longer!
You may consider to use only the last 11 characters as the last resort.
I appreciate what you've done so far, GVNina.
I have a workaround that you can use to import your IIF File. Please know that you have to be in Single-User mode when importing. If you’re in Multi-user mode, go to the File menu, then select Switch to Single-user Mode.
Once done, go to the File menu and select Utilities. Click Import, then IIF Files. Use the Import it for me. I'll fix it later link below the import button. This will allow you to import the IIF without QuickBooks doing the usual review for the file. Our IIF Overview, is a great resource as well.
As Deity Alpha suggested, you can also use a third-party app to import your files.
Let me know if you have any further questions about data migration in QuickBooks Desktop. We're here to help you 24/7.
Thought of that - thanks. However, my objective is to manipulate the data as little as possible.
It imported something, but only a single entry -- when I click on the total, there is no detail available to see. And, there is no allocation of the "other side" of the entry -- i.e., the income accounts. So, if that is the way IIF import is supposed to work, it is not satisfactory for my purposes.
Thank you for your response.
