Importing historic data

Hi,

I would like to convert from our current software (Veracross) to QB and cannot get any answer on how to easily import the previous years data. I am willing to pay a consultant to import all of the history, but QB support was unable to recommend anyone. Has anyone switched to QB from a random software company and was able to keep a few years worth of data?

Thanks

Importing historic data

Hi there, @BKonop.

I'd be glad to offer my assistance with exporting your Veracross data to QuickBooks Online.

To ensure that you get the support needed, I'd suggest reaching out to Veracross Support just to be sure.

From the research I've done, I did find steps with how to export your data to an Excel spreadsheet or as a CSV file.

I'm providing steps below with how to export your Veracross data:

  1. Select Export from the Action Menu in the query design view or the Data Grid Results View.
  2. Choose the green Export button to run the procedure, and the file will automatically download it to the computer.

Exported files maintain the same field properties and formatting as the query results, so renamed fields, column order, background colors, etc. will be included on the exported spreadsheet.

Once you have followed the steps above, I'm going to provide steps below with how to export the Excel spreadsheet into your QuickBooks Online:

  1. Under Customers, select Invoice.
  2. Under Tools, choose Import Data.
  3. From the list, pick Customers.
  4. Select Browse.
  5. Find and select the Excel file, click Open, then click on Next to continue.
  6. Map your data then go to Next.
  7. Adjust your data if necessary then choose Import.

I'm also going to attach a link with some additional information about exporting into QuickBooks Online as well: Import Customer or Vendor Contacts from Outlook, Excel, or Gmail

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to Reply to this thread. Happy Tuesday!

Importing historic data

Hi Kendra,

From what I've read, the data import capabilities from a csv file into QBO is pretty limited and the example you provided is list data and not transactions...Although, I've seen that bank transaction data can be imported. Is that correct?

Is it a viable alternative to doing it through an API?  If so, how do I obtain the QBO file structures / file mapping to work with my in-house developer? I have called the Sales and Support numbers and no one knows what I am talking about.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for joining in this thread, @Apt7855. I'm here to answer all your questions and to make things clear for you about the importing feature in QuickBooks Online.

You're right, QuickBooks Online only supports Excel CSV (comma-separated values) format. And that's correct, bank transactions can also be imported using that file format.

For more detailed formatting and a step-by-step guide of importing from a CSV file, check out this help article: Import bank transactions using Excel CSV files

Concerning the Application Programming Interface (API), we have a different dedicated Community site that can provide you with this kind of information. You can check out with our developers by visiting the Intuit Developer Support site, then click the QuickBooks Online tile. Start posting your concern by clicking the Ask a question button.

Should you have other questions, the Community is here to back you up. Stay safe.
