Is there a way to restore a deleted journal entry?

Hello gshester,

We won't be able to restore deleted journal entries or other transactions. Wen can only view the details of the deleted journal entry through the Audit Log and recreate them manually.

Here's how to view the details of the deleted journal entry:

  1. Click the Gear icon and select Audit Log.
  2. Click the Filter button and select All Users in the Users field.
  3. Select All Dates in the Date field.
  4. Under Events, mark the Transactions box.
  5. Select Deleted/Voided Transactions in the Show: field.
  6. Click Apply.
  7. Look for the deleted journal entry and click View.
  8. Click the added history and take note of the details.

Here's how to recreate the journal entry:

  1. Click the Create menu (+) and select Journal Entry.
  2. Enter the Journal date and other details.
  3. Click Save and close.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Good Morning, @Ayush

I've got you covered. It only takes a few easy steps to view a deleted transaction through the Audit Log. Just follow the steps and visual guide below.

  1. Go through steps 1-4 from my colleague post above.
  2. Click on the Show: Transactions drop-down arrow and choose Deleted/Voided Transactions

       3. Press Apply

       4. Locate the transaction and select View in the "History" column.

Now you'll be able to successfully view the details of the deleted transaction

I’m only a couple of clicks away if you need anything else. Have a splendid Wednesday!

Is there a way to restore a deleted journal entry?

Hello,

Regarding the deleted transaction, if there is an applied payment to the bill that was deleted, how do I see the payment that was deleted?

This is ABSURD !!!!!  QB should allow for this.

I accidentally deleted the entire journal entry instead of the one transaction. You would think Intuit would warn me or give me a chance to restore. This is absurd. Perhaps Intuit should put more $$ into development and less into HR and various depts of inclusion, gender, etc.

Hi @BT12345,

Currently, QuickBooks will only let you use the audit history option to see your deleted journal entries. You can follow the steps provided my by colleague @JamesDuanT to get to the report.

You can check the details about it at this link here: Use the audit log to re-enter deleted transactions

I'll also share with your our page about undo and remove transactions from reconciliations in QuickBooks Online which I'm sure you'll find helpful. It has step-by-step instructions that'll guide you through the process.

Feel welcome to comeback if you have other questions or concerns. We're here to assist you further. Thanks for coming by and have a great week ahead.

That is unacceptable. I had over 100 individual entries. My only choice is to put them back in manually? That is why I purchased QB in the first place. #1) QB should WARN me about what I am about to do, #2) QB should allow me to "undo".  Intuit is a software company. This is their job. They are not doing it well.

Is there a way to restore a deleted journal entry?

Is there really no way to restore a deleted journal?! I just spent hours setting up our opening balances to create my Trial Balance and when I went to delete one small incorrect figure I accidentally lost the WHOLE thing!!! surely there is a way to fix this and not just 're-create' a journal by looking at the old deleted one-- that just feels like rubbing it in your face all the work you just put in, only to have to do it again!! Where was the deleting WARNING?!

We don't want you to feel this way, @Bridie Kiera.

Recovering the deleted transactions in QuickBooks Online is unavailable. As a workaround, you may utilize the Audit log tool to reenter the deleted transaction manually.

Regarding the warning for deleting the transaction, there is a notification that will pop up to confirm the deletion process. I've added a screenshot for your reference:

If you're not able to see this warning notification, I'd recommend performing clearing the browser's cache. To refresh the outdated data that is automatically saved while surfing the internet.

I've added an article about getting the data from a deleted transactions: Use the audit log in QuickBooks Online.

Let us know if you have other questions or concerns in the comment section. Take care.

I also accidentally deleted a complete previous journal entry. I have recreated the journal entry with the original date and information, but it is affecting all of my reconciliations since, not truly affecting my balances at the date entered. Anyone have ideas for this situation?

I have a way to correct this, smalicia.

After recreating the deleted journal entry, you'll have to manually mark it as reconciled. This to ensure that the transaction will affect the balances of your previous reconciliation. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Accounting menu.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Find the account holding the journal entry, then select View register from the Action column.
  4. Select the journal entry to expand the view.
  5. Review the check column, then keeping clicking the checkbox until it shows a letter R. This marks the transactions as reconciled.
  6. Click Save, then close the account register.

I've also attached some articles that will help you resolve common reconciliation issues and mistakes in QuickBooks Online:

If there's anything else that I can help you with, please don't hesitate to tag me in your comments and posts. I've got you covered.

Why is Intuit Customer "Support" so incredibly useless? It is like you are robots that do not even listen to us, stuck in your tiny little box that you cannot think out of. I suggest that everyone leave Intuit for other options; Intuit obviously does not care about their customers. Take a look at reviews on BBB, TrustPilot, Yelp!, etc; a average of 1 out of 5 stars each. Pathetic company!

Absolutely USELESS! How STUPID is this? And THEN you can't Batch Enter Journal entries, so you sit there for HOURS having to re-enter EVERYTHING!!!!!! I wish I'd known how absolutely USELESS this program, their Customer Service, IT, and production people are. But you better not miss a payment!!! It's literally disgusting!!!!!!!!
