Is this popup criminals or just sleezy marketing?

Hi All,

A customer gets this popup every morning.  It is really, really annoying her.  Is it

1) a criminal attempt to steal information, or

2) is it just a sleezy marketing attempt to sell services?

If #2, how can it be permanently disables?

Many thanks,

Intuit Data Protect is a backup service, ToddAndMargo.

This helps your customer backup their entire computer or just their QuickBooks files and folders. Once this feature is set up, it saves their data every day. QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, and QuickBooks Enterprise subscriptions include free access to Intuit Data Protect. To learn more about this service, please see this article: Set up Intuit Data Protect to Back up Files.

No to worry, this pop-up message can be easily turned off in QuickBooks. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to the Edit menu.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. On the General tab, click My Preferences.
  4. Place a checkmark on the Turn off pop-up message for products and services field.
  5. Once done, click on OK.

In case your customer like to set up the Intuit Data Protect, I've included these article articles that'll help them manage backups.

Please come back and keep us posted on your progress in disabling the pop-up message. I'm determined to get this resolved. Have a good one.
