Linked business credit card errors when adding transactions: Something’s not quite right This account is set up as a liability account.... The account worked until now?

The credit card account is link and has been working until recently. When I go to review transactions and ADD them I get this pop-up: Something’s not quite right This account is set up as a liability account. To accept this transaction, either disconnect the account or change its category type to bank or credit card.

We can check the account's information, russ13.

It's possible that the business credit card account is set up as a liability account. We can further check that one and change it to either a bank or credit card type.

Here's how:

  1. From the Transactions or Banking page, click Banking.
  2. Select the bank where you're categorizing.
  3. At the upper-right of the bank tile, click the pencil icon and then Edit account info.
  4. Look into the Account and Detail type and change it to a credit card or bank type. QuickBooks is unable to support liability accounts on the banking page.
  5. Then, click Save and Close

We can press F5 in your keyboard or sign out and sign back in to refresh the updates. Then, let's categorize or match your transactions again.

If you get the same thing, let's verify it the error is caused by a browser-related issue. Log in to QuickBooks through a private browser and use these keyboard shortcuts to open one:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

Then, try to add the transactions from the banking page. If everything looks fine as expected, we can switch back to the main browser and clear the cache. We can also get rid of the error and unexpected behavior by using other supported browsers such as Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Mozilla Firefox.

Keep me posted on how this works. I'll surely get back to you. Stay safe and have a great day!

Linked business credit card errors when adding transactions: Something’s not quite right This account is set up as a liability account.... The account worked until now?

Hello Catherine

It has been set up as a credit card since I added it back in May. Up until recently it worked normal. It would show my transactions to review. I would double check that the category was correct and then hit the ADD button. I already have over a months worth of transactions in the account.

I was trying to attach a few screen shots but it looks like I can only attach one per reply.

I am having this same issue.  Books imported from desktop on Saturday.  Account type shows credit card in two places.

Here is the error message:  "This account is set up as a liability account. To accept this transaction, either disconnect the account or change its category type to bank or credit card."

Hi there,

The error message you received is identified as transient and will eventually self-resolve. It usually happens if there is a network issue, causing our server to drop your connection. You don't need to do anything right now, but let us know if the issue lasts for a day so we can check this further. Reconciling your account would be a great thing to do after adding bank transactions to your books

Sometimes we feel frustrated if we see an error in QuickBooks and cannot proceed with our tasks, especially if we want to finish our work immediately. However, such errors are unavoidable because we do not control the activities of network providers.

Once again, this will just be resolved, and we are just around if you need more help. Take care and have a good time at work!
