Migration from Desktop to Online - Transaction detail report is missing NAMES for all deposits

I just migrated from Quickbooks Enterprise Desktop to Online (what a nightmare).  All of my Deposit transactions are missing 'Name'.  I have hundreds of sales transactions that are recorded as deposits from my bank account, but the vendor name is missing.  So I don't know where that money came from.  This seems BASIC.   For example, run a basic P&L report and in the revenues section, click on sales and you will see all my deposits but no name.  Expense transactions have names that came over. I called the migration and support teams 3 different times hoping I just get someone more knowledgeable and they just keep telling me this is a limitation in migration.  This is a bug or just a half developed migration tool.  I am not migrating any more of my clients until this is resolved.  Please tell me when it is fixed so I can do this migration again.  For now I am turning it off.

This is reported also here related to multi line split transactions, but it also happen for single line. Re: Transaction detail report is missing NAMES for deposits with multiple line items.

Has this been resolved?  This is not a solution to a known issue that others are reporting.

@SwitchcorInc

Which QB Desktop year version do you have? Can you still open your data on QB Desktop?

When your license expires, use the trial version of QB Desktop for good to access your historical data as a workaround.

It is now June 2024 and this is still a limitation in the migration process. How is that possible?! How can Intuit think that a migration that doesn't bring over such essential information is acceptable?! And where was a warning about this deficiency in the migration steps! If I'd know, I never would have attempted to migrate. What a waste of my time.

I am in the same position as many of these people, where I have many hundreds of deposit transaction in this year alone, not to mention prior years. Going to back to insert this information by hand is not an acceptable solution.

I may look for a 3rd party solution, but my organization should not have to pay for something so basic. I will likely stick with the desktop version until this is resolved.

I recognize the importance of smoothly transitioning from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO), VdGSATreasurer. Allow me to provide further information and address the issue you're facing.

To better understand the issue and provide an appropriate solution, may I know what specific version of QBDT you are using? If you're using QBDT Mac 2019 and QBDT Pro/Premier 2020, there's a known limitation when migrating deposits to QBO. As a workaround, you can manually toggle each deposit.

However, if you're using a more recent version, such as QBDT 2021 to 2024, and encounter issues with your deposit migration from QBDT to QBO, I'd recommend contacting our support team. They'll be able to pull up the account in a secure environment, conduct further research with you, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

Here's how:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
  2. Click the Help button at the top right corner.
  3. Go to the Search tab, then select Contact Us.
  4. Enter a summary of your concern, then click Continue.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us. You can either choose Chat with us or Have us call you.

In addition, you may notice some differences and missing data after switching from QBDT to QBO. This occurs because some features of your data don't come over from the QBDT to the QBO. For more details, visit this article: Learn how features and data move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

I've also included this article for the tips and guide after converting from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online: What to do after you move from QuickBooks Desktop for Windows or Mac to QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to reply if you have further questions or concerns about migrating data from QBDT to QBO. I'll be around to provide additional assistance and ensure a smooth transition.
