Buy nowI stupidly signed up for QB online a few months ago thanks to the flashing red alarm signal saying my desktop version would no longer be supported. When I signed up, there was something that said that I could make my online view look just like my desktop view to make things easier. This week I finally had the time to convert my data and get online, and I can't find any reference to how to use that desktop view plug in or extension or whatever it was. Help? I hate this online version. Everything I loved about the desktop version has been eliminated from this online version. Everything takes more time. And finding things in the menus is impossible. If I can't figure out how to get that desktop view, I'm cancelling and going back to my non-supported desktop software, risks be damned. =/
Hi there, @Hayneyez.
I appreciate you for signing up for QuickBooks Online. It's my priority to ensure that you'll be at ease using the new platform.
QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and QuickBooks Online (QBO) are different software and have dissimilar user interfaces. The option to change the QBO interface to look like a desktop screen is unavailable.
With this said, I recommend sending this request straight to our product engineers through feedback. Sharing features and options that you would like implemented is how our engineers look for new product updates.
To send feedback in QBDT, Here's how:
Our developers periodically update and release new features. They might change how this works in the future. To be updated with our latest news and updates, including product improvements, I encourage you to visit the What's New section on your QBDT account or open this link to view our product update blogs.
To learn more about QBO settings and navigation: Get started and adjust settings after you sign up for QuickBooks Online.
I'll be around if you have any other questions about QBO display or preference. Please feel free to add them to your response; I'll take care of them. Keep safe, and have a good one!
Yeah I signed up too and was TOLD that I could make it look like desktop...even has a button to dload an app that will do so...not working...no support...Intuit is notorius for awful USER EXPERIENCE...I liked desktop and I like the people who I have spoken with in tech support, but Intuit and QB have DISABLED FEATURES on all non-supported versions of desktop...I can't even go back and MANUALLY download banking entries...Intuit DISABLED THE FEATURE...that's like being a car and the manufacturer disabling the motor because they want you to buy a new car.
DISHONEST at best. I can't wait for an AI-based acctg software to come and put Intuit our of business...I am SO PISSED OFF...what an oawful business model...I have should have seen this coming and jumped ship long ago.
I just want to say that I hate, hate, hate the online version. I just made the switch because I was forced to. I have been using desktop for 20 years. I would literally pay almost any amount to be able to go back. My staff and I couldn't be more frustrated. So many features that were so easy and simple, now take several steps or are not possible with the new system. Thanks intuit, for making what was a great product, so radically different and difficult for your customers to learn and use. GOOD JOB!!!!
I noticed your post is a year old.
I just made the switch & HATE the online. Did you end up going back to desktop?
YES YES YES I TOO HATE HATE HATE THE ONLINE VERSION OF QUICKBOOKS!!!!!
I also dislike the online version of Quickbooks and so sorry that I made the switch. Has anyone figured out if there is a way to look like and work like the desktop version? Did anyone cancel and go back to the desktop version? I love having a MAC computer but sorry I bought it now because a desktop version is not available for the MAC. Online is much more difficult and time consuming. I HATE it!
I was unable to find a solution and gave up, cancelled QB online and went back to the old, no longer supported, desktop version that I had. It no longer has some features (because QB / Intuit no longer supports it), and I still get the flashing notice that my product is not supported, but I don't care. I HATED the online version and found myself not using it anyway. Why pay for something I'm not going to use it because it's so horrible? The old desktop version was a one and done payment for the software and it does what I need it to do, so that's where I'm at.
I understand how helpful QuickBooks Desktop can be for efficiently managing your business finances, bkbrandi and Hayneyez.
The QuickBooks Online (QBO) interface cannot be customized to replicate the appearance of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), as QBO is specifically designed as a web-based platform with its own unique layout and functionality.
For a detailed comparison of features and data transfer between the two platforms, you can read this article: Learn how terms and data transfer from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.
Please note that as of September 30, 2024, the listed version of QuickBooks Desktop will no longer be accessible for purchase by new subscribers:
However, existing subscribers who sign up prior to the discontinuation date will continue to receive support, including security updates, product enhancements, and ongoing assistance from QuickBooks.
For more information about this transition, please visit this page: QuickBooks Desktop to Stop Selling to New U.S. Subscribers.
There is an application available for QBO that you may consider. It allows you to manage your company files directly from your computer. For instructions on downloading and using the app, you can refer to this article: Download and use the QuickBooks app on your computer.
