Is there an option for something similar to the Other Names List from Quickbooks Desktop on Quickbooks Online?
I know on the desktop version is there is an option for "other names' instead of putting the Payee in as a vendor. Is that an option for the online version?
Our vendor list is becoming extensive and it would be nice to only have the vendors that we pay via bills in the vendor area and have an other names list for miscellaneous names.
Thanks

unfortunately, there is no way to add "Other Names List" in QBO. If it's money out, it's only Vendor type in QBO.
Hey there, @alexandriashamblin.
I hope you're enjoying the day.
As mentioned by vpcontroller, at this time, there isn't a list available in QuickBooks Online that symbolizes the Others Name List in QuickBooks Desktop. However, to offer a solution for this concern, you could check with your accountant to see if you could add one vendor and name that vendor as miscellaneous. Once you've added your miscellaneous vendor, you could add all of your miscellaneous transactions under that one vendor leaving a memo on the transaction for which company you purchased with.
In the meantime, if you'd like, I can submit product feedback to our developer team, so this could be considered in a future update.
Please let me know if you have further questions or concerns. I'll be here every step of the way. You can always reach out to us here in the Community anytime you find you need help. Take care and have a great week ahead!
Are there any updates on if QB Online will add the "other names" feature? I imagine there is a great demand for this feature.
Thanks for taking the time to reach out to us here, terrih.
At the moment, we don't have any updates when the Other names feature will be added in QuickBooks Online. To be updated on the latest feature releases, you can visit our QuickBooks Blog.
If you want to add the Other names, the closest option is to add them as Vendors.
Here's how:
Please see this sample screenshot for a visual reference:
Once done, you can start creating expenses or checks when you make a payment.
Please let me know if you have any other questions about QuickBooks.
So can someone explain what happened to the companies/names that were listed as "Other Name" in QB Desktop? Where and how are they classified now in QBO?
Joining the thread to help with your question about the other names list, LMAYNARD105.
Other names from the Desktop version will be converted as vendors when switching to QuickBooks Online. More details about the types of data that will not be converted are discussed here: What To Expect When You Switch From QuickBooks Desktop To QuickBooks Online.
You can follow the steps in the previous response on how to access your Vendor menu. I'd also like to share this article for additional reference about switching platforms: The QuickBooks Guide To Converting QuickBooks Desktop To QuickBooks Online.
Please know that we are always here if you have follow-up questions.
It looks like names were never really converted to a vendor but just added to a list. You'll still need to create it as a vendor.
How do you change the type from a patient (customer) to a vendor and vice versa? During the conversion, some were converted to a patient instead of vendor.
Thanks.
Hello @LMAYNARD105,
As of the moment, there isn't an integrated way of changing the name type when converting from desktop to the online version of QuickBooks.
If you wish to proceed with changing the name type, you can do so by exporting and importing the name list separately. Learn more about the steps you need to take with these articles:
In the same manner, I've also included this reference for a compilation of articles you can use while working with us: Get started with QuickBooks Online.
If there's anything else that I can help you with, please let me know in the comments below. I'll be here to lend a hand.
Making all payees a vendor destroys the concept of a vendor. If Intuit does not restore Other Names, perhaps you can add a flag that would allow us to filter the "Vendor" list to just vendors.
Thanks for joining this thread, OldMichiganAl.
I can certainly understand how an ability to add vendors to an Other Names list and/or have additional filter/sorting options could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.
You can also submit your own feature requests while signed in.

Your feedback's definitely valuable to Intuit. It will be reviewed by our Product Development team and considered in future updates. You can stay up-to-date with the latest news about your product by reviewing Intuit's Product Updates webpage.

How can I convert my other names list to customer list? I am trying to migrate from Desktop to Online and my other names list end up on my vendor list. I want them to be on the customer list.
Or please allow the other names list in the Online version!
Thanks.
Thanks for joining the thread, jmattson.
I'll give you some tips to organize your list. The other name list will currently be moved as vendors when your data is transferred from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online QBO).
Before transferring your data to QBO, you may want to convert the other name to a customer in QBDT. I'll show you how.
If you already converted your QuickBooks Desktop data to QuickBooks Online, you can manually change it from Vendor to a Customer.
Here's how:
Run the Transaction List by Vendor report later to see the accounts, dates, and amounts associated with the vendor. After that, edit each transaction to link it to the new Customer name. Delete the Vendor name once all transactions are edited or added.
Refer to this article for more details: Moving names from one list to another.
You can also read this link to know how you books move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online: Learn how features and data move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.
Feel free to post again if you have further questions about the migration process. We're always available to help you.
Does QB Desktop have the option to Import "vendors/Misc Names" to the other Names List. I see excel/import options for actual vendors in the vendor center but don't see where i can bulk add names to the Other names list.
Thanks for using QuickBooks Desktop as part of your business, @Rebeccam2.
I can see how useful and time-saving it is for you and your business would be for you to have the option to import vendors or names to the Other Names List in bulk. However, this is currently unavailable.
Our team is constantly taking suggestions into account while making product updates. As we value your suggestions, I recommend sending this feedback to our Product Development Team. Here's how:
