Hi, Adam_Steele.
I'm here to help and ensure that you'll be able to import your inventory items in QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise.
While the Community is a peer-to-peer forum, there are certain issues that only our QuickBooks Support can handle. Reviewing your inventory items is one of the things they can do for you since they'll be able to look into your account in a secure environment and help you with importing.
I know you've already called in. However, I'd still suggest getting in touch with our QuickBooks Support. Unlike in this public forum, they have the tools required to perform any escalations in the system whenever necessary on your behalf so you can reach a point of resolution as quickly as possible.
As a workaround, you might want to import your items using the Add/Edit Multiple List Entries option or via IIF file. You can go through this article for the detailed steps: Export, import, and edit IIF files.
You'll want to consider visiting our Community Help Articles hub in case you need some related articles in managing your account.
Please get back to me if you continue to get the same results so I can look further into this. I'll be around to provide additional assistance. Have a good one.
I did the support chat with 2 different people yesterday. They told me something different. The first told me that QB Enterprise did not allow importing of inventory items, and the import wizard including the advance import was not functional and could not be used. Also told me that INV number was invalid and there was no inquiry into this known bug. To which I promptly closed the chat and tried to find a different support member.
The second told me to use the IIF export kit, but I looked through all the folders and I didn't see a sample for an inventory list format. And being new to this, I don't know exactly how to format an inventory IIF file. I would love to delete the few inventory items that are currently in QB and copy and paste the entire inventory list I have, but I can't because the ones currently in there are tied to invoices and therefore can't be removed.
I did the support chat with 2 different people yesterday. They both did not help me fix the issue. The first one told me that QB Enterprise doesn't allow importing of inventory items and that the import wizard are not functional and can't be used. Also told me that the INV number posted in this thread wasn't valid and that there is no inquiry into this known bug. I tried to explain to them that an Enterprise solution had to have a way to import data and I was told I was incorrect. So I shut the chat.
The second person told me to use the IIF kit, but I have this inventory list saved as both a CSV and an XML file. I looked for a sample Inventory List in the kit, so I could see how the Inventory IIF sheet should be formatted, but there is not one in the IIF kit, so that didn't seem plausible either, unless someone can send me a blank one with the headers formatted correctly.
I would love to just copy and paste, but there are already a few items in QB under service items and non-inventory items (not sure how QB made that distinction) and I can't delete the existing items, because they are tied to an invoice. So copy and paste would work, but not in large sections.
Thanks for your info H2Tackle, but this issue wasn't really SOLVED...but it was worked around. Not really great having to change columns, etc. I have several price list each mapped differently.
I was forced to upgrade from premier 2017 to premier 2020 because my QB Payroll service would no longer work with the 2017. Now I'm in 2020 and just came across this problem.
Shameful a company as big as Intuit can't solve a bug that's been detected/discussed for more the 3 months.
April 30, 2020 and still waiting on a patch/solution!!
I'm having the same issue and have been going crazy trying to work out the resolution.
Hello, @ChrisSaraiva.
As I've checked from our records, the investigation (INV-37720) is still in progress and our engineers are now all hands on deck working together to fix the problem as quickly as possible. Let me know if you have any other QuickBooks questions. I'm always here to help. Have a good day!
I have been having this issue since December. Every time I call QB's support, it is a challenge finding someone that actually understands what quickbooks is, and then when you do get in touch with someone that has some background, we spend hours for them to tell me I need to talk to someone else. I have 85K items to import into our inventory. The add/multiple through hosting is a joke when you have 85K items. What is the solution???? 6 months now and it still hasn't been fixed.

Any update from Quickbooks??
Customer support is waste of time if system is bugged. We don't need Work around's.
Intuit Quickbooks. Please FIX ASAP!!!! It's been 6 months. It's impossible for a company this size to not be able to fix this bug in this time.
For us that bought this 2020 flawed (limited) version, are we at least getting a free upgrade to 2021?
I know that this hasn't been easy for your business, 940alex.
I also understand that you've already exhausted all the resources to be able to successfully import your data. I've asked our software engineers about this issue and was informed that they're still currently working to get this resolved for you.
You'll want to get in touch with our technical supports by following the steps above (in case you haven't contacted us yet). This way, we'll be able to add your contact information to our notification list. We'll be providing you updates via email once we get this sorted out and I'll also let you know through this thread.
In the meantime, we can use the Add/Edit Multiple List Entries window to add and edit multiple customers, vendors, service, inventory items, and non-inventory items. We can also copy and paste list information from Excel directly into QuickBooks using this window.
Additionally, feel free to visit the articles provided by my colleague, BettyJaneB above to be guided in importing and exporting data once this gets rectified.
Your patience and understanding are highly appreciated, and let us know if you have additional questions in mind.
This is not what we want you to experience, @MHaedike.
Let me share some information so you'd be able to set up the unit of measure feature. Just to clarify, what specific version of QuickBooks are you using? The option to set up the unit of measure is only available in QuickBooks Desktop Premier, Enterprise, and Accountant versions.
If you're using one of the above-mentioned QuickBooks versions, let's first make sure that your QuickBooks program is updated to the latest version.
Here's how:
Once completed, let's restart your device. This is to make sure that all QuickBooks components are updated. Now, you can open QuickBooks and set up the unit of measure.
Here's how:
If the issue persists, you can run the verify utility and rebuild tool. This way we can isolate this unexpected behavior for data damage.
Leave your comments below if you have other questions about managing inventory in QuickBooks using the unit of measure. I'm always here to help.
Any news form quickbooks on the fix of this bug?
I highly depend on being able to batch add and batch modify from excel to QB. This is killing me!!
6 months now since problem identified on this blog.
Hey there, @940alex.
Thanks for following up with the thread.
At this time, there are no new updates for the investigation. We will keep you updated as we are informed about the concerns. Our engineer team is working diligently to get this resolved. We understand how much this will help you and your business and strive to ensure we get it fixed.
Please feel free to let us know if you have additional questions. We are happy to lend a helping hand. Take care!
That did not work; updating or verify/rebuild.
I have wasted hours and hours on this... I think its just a bug in 2020 that has not been addressed.
It worked on 2019 for me.. but not on 2020. :(
Quickbooks team....If I already upgraded to premier 2020 and updated company file to new version, can I downgrade the company file to 2019? And use the premier 2019 version with this functionality still working?
This is critical for my business
Hello there, 940alex and hectorgarciacpa,
You're unable to downgrade the file to 2019 since you've already upgraded it.
I've checked the investigation and the status is still in progress. The recommended workaround provided by our Product Team are listed below:
We'll update this post once the issue is fixed. You can also contact our Support Team as mentioned in this thread so they can add your account to the investigation. This way, you'll receive updates via email.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while we look into this.
When you open the company file on QB 2020, it would create a QBB file of your 2019 version. You should find it. Otherwise, consider purchasing a 3rd party downgrade service. Some data will be vanish to avoid the corruption when running back on QB 2019.
Intuit Quickbooks - Stop being irresponsible and block new downloads of this broken down piece of crap, they need to be directed to the 2019 version only until you have a working version of 2020 without the bugs, I understand a few small bugs but this is literally keeping businesses frojm performing, I cannot believe how much this software costs versus the level of service that comes with it, you people are criminals.
We have QB Enterprise 2020 and received the same UOM error message after trying to import our items back to QB. I have 12,000 items that I need price adjustments.
The Add/Edit Multiple List entries does not work with that many items. The sorting on QB doesn't match with the Excel sorting method.
The IIF files don't work either. Most of our items are assemblies and we spent a ton of hours trying fit our new prices to the IIF Files. Only to receive error messages at the end of several attempts.
Please help. Our customers already received the new price list months ago. We need them updated on QB ASAP.
Hi there, @MLeandro.
We have an investigation currently in place concerning an unexpected error when importing items list from excel. Our product engineers are now prioritizing this so you can get back to your business as soon as possible.
If you haven't reached out to our customer support yet, I recommend giving them a call. This way, they can add your account details to the list of affected users. This will also help them in notifying once the issue is fixed.
Here's how you can reach out to them:
Just a heads up, due to COVID-19, we have limited staffing and have reduced our support hours to 6 AM-6 PM PT Monday-Friday. We will resume normal hours as soon as possible.
Please check out our support hours to ensure that we address your concerns on time.
In the meantime, it would be best to use the standard method of importing item list to QuickBooks. This way, you can update your items price list while waiting for the issue to be resolved.
Don't hesitate to tag my name in the comment section below if you have other concerns or questions. I'm always ready to help.
For the time being, consider having an importer tool.

Thank you for posting this. I am right in the middle of this frustration and helpful to know it is a problem. Given I am being forced to start a new company file given a problem with advanced pricing module being buggy when using multi-currency, I am trying hard to not be annoyed by the lack of import capabilities when working with the SAME software.
Any update on fixing this issue?
Or any update when intuit will be releasing qb desktop 2021
