QB Fixed Asset Manager

I'm working with QB Fixed Asset Manager.  I saw an option to allow Asset Number to be changed but I can't remember how to get back to that setting and I am unable to change Asset Numbers.  Where do I find this option?

Hello, @NMichRocks.

I'm here to ensure you'll be able to change the asset number in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

To access the option for changing Asset Numbers in QuickBooks Desktop Fixed Asset Manager, you can follow these detailed steps:

  1. From the List menu, select Fixed Asset Items List.
  2. Double-click the specific asset for which you want to amend the Asset Number.
  3. Edit the asset number in the Asset Name/Number field.
  4. Once done, click Ok to save changes.

Sorry, I am looking to change the item number assigned by the FAM program.  These instructions (From Ariell) only change the Fixed Asset Number at the end of the Asset Description, they do not change the Fixed Asset Number from the FAM schedule as assigned by FAM.  Where is the option to unlock the Asset Number field in FAM?

Thanks for getting back to the thread and adding a screenshot, @NMichRocks.

Upon checking, the asset number showing in the Fixed Asset Manager is system-generated. Once you add a fixed asset item, the system will automatically create a number for it.

The option to edit it is unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop. With that, I suggest sending feedback to our developers. They can review your suggestions to help them develop the product. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu and select Send Feedback Online.
  2. Click the Product Suggestion option. A pop-up window displays.
  3. Enter your feedback suggestion.
  4. Select Send Feedback.

Please let me know if you have follow-up questions about updating the fixed item number assigned by the FAM program. We'll be here to help. Have a good one.

We've got some information to share about changing the item number assigned by the Fixed Asset Manager (FAM) in QuickBooks Desktop, InControl_1.

The option to update or edit it is unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop. We see consumer feedback as an opportunity to improve the numerous features of our products. We recommend giving our engineers direct feedback so they may look into this suggestion and incorporate it into future updates. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help option.
  2. Click the Send Feedback Online option.
  3. Choose the Product Suggestion option and a pop-up window displays.
  4. Enter your feedback suggestion.
  5. Press the Send Feedback button and the feedback is sent.

Alternatively, we can assign a FAM number to a fixed asset item by syncing FAM and QuickBooks Desktop. Here's how:

  1. In QuickBooks, create a new fixed asset item.
  2. In FAM, select the new fixed asset and go to Assets. The new asset number will be displayed in Asset number.
  3. Close FAM to sync it with QuickBooks Desktop.
  4. From the Lists menu in QuickBooks, select Fixed Asset Item List. Then, the new item should show the numbers under the FAM number column.

QB Fixed Asset Manager

I ended up moving away from the QB Fixed Asset Manager as there were too many program bugs for me.  Most importantly, when one user would input data or make changes, those changes were not visible to another user.  Or the user had to be an Admin user in order to make changes, which did not work well when the Admin is looking to delegate tasks.  Program seemed very rigid with very little support options.  Currently using Excel again to manage Fixed Assets.  I am usually a big fan of QB, but disappointed in the Fixed Asset Manager to say the least.  If you know of any other Fixed Asset manager programs for small business please share.
