I've found various instructions for turning on audit logging, but the options aren't there in my install.
I'm wanting to see a log of all transactions added, removed, changed, etc.
How can I find it?
Have you tried generating this report? Reports > Accountant & Taxes > Audit Trail
Empty
I guess it's not empty, but it doesn't have any content for the last seven months. I know activity has happened since then as I can see it in other places.
Have you filtered the range date? How big is your file size? Consider running the Verify/Rebuild Data utility.
Yes, I have filtered the date range to "This Year" or "This Fiscal Year". That at least has something from January\February of 2021. I did try others like this week, last week, this month, last month. Those were all empty.
The QBW file size is 72 megs. The TLG file is about 250 megs.
I have not done a verify\rebuild data.
Hello MHammett!
Thanks for reaching out to us. Let me join this discussion so I can assist you with the Audit Trail report.
It could be that you reduced the company file size by using the Condense Data tool. This will remove the transaction detail and list entries which affects the Audit Trail report.
Please note that the changes after condensing the file cannot be undone. If you have a backup company file, you can restore it and rerun the Audit Trail report.
If the same thing happens, install and run the QuickBooks File Doctor. This fixes company file issues, too.
QuickBooks Desktop allows you to customize the reports to get the right data you need. You can check these links for the steps on how to do it:

I have *not* done a verify and rebuild.
I'm assuming the Condense Data tool would affect all of the file, not the most recent few months.
Thanks for the reply, MHammett!
Yes, the Condense Data utility will affect the entire company file. You'll want to restore your backup file if you have one, so you can run the Audit Trail report.
Keep your posts coming if you have other clarifications. Thanks!
Well, I don't really have any action items.
What should I be doing next?
Your file size is still below 200 MB and it should be fine. You may consider to secure a backup file and run the the Verify/Rebuild Data to check your primary file.
Thanks.
