Quickbook Desktop 2022 Crashing and stops working

Same problem. After qb sold or (upgraded me) to multi user mode. Me and one other user access the same company file. Everyday we spend about 30-40 min before we can get qb to open. QB keeps crashing over and over and also shuts down, outlook,excell, etc. Very frustrating.

@tst508Does it still happen if you turn off the Home page in your preferences, so it doesn't load on startup?

 

- To open your company file and stop the Home page from loading, hold down the Alt key while the company is opening.

- To stop the Home page from loading in the future, change your preference from the QuickBooks menu at Edit | Preferences | Desktop View | My Preferences. Deselect the ineptly named "Show home page when opening a company file" option, which does not apply to all company files as suggested, but only to the current file.

I have a similar problem.  I have worked on two different computers and two different versions of QB desktop, 2020 and 2022.  Both, just after opening have booted me out.  No error message, just shuts down.  Could this be due to an update glitch.  Very annoying!

Yes, for both 2020 and 2022, these crashes are likely caused by the latest patch (R5 for 2022), which replaces IE with a home-grown browser as the embedded browser, which appears to be causing all sorts of issues from crashes to features that just don't work at all.

 

Intuit had over a year to make these changes, since MS announced the end of IE, but they didn't act until  recently, patching all of the currently supported versions of QuickBooks at about the same time last month. It seems their new browser isn't working out well so far.

This happens to me all the time the program randomly shuts down.  In the beginning, it was only when I would print a check or a report.  After i click print, it would hang and then the whole program would shut down, it's very frustrating.  I've had 3 different technicians working on it, the last one seemed as though he was doing a tutorial in the background (working from home).  I think i knew more about the software than he did.  The first technician told me it was because i was using Chrome browser ?? I had to use MS IE as my default browser. I have no idea why the browser had anything to do with it.  I have used the tool hub several times as well as the file doctor.  Everytime it would shut down, i would submit under the help screen, to "report a bug", Now i can't even do that because there is a "scrip error" that won't let me report anything.  I feel helpless now.  It is still shutting down randomly not just when i am printing.  I don't have more hours to sit on the phone and have someone look at the screen and tell me try this, try that. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 2 times, to no avail. It's still shutting down whenever it wants to.  This is the worst version of QB ever, and i have been using QB since 2005.  They changed the upgrade option to subscription now, can't buy the software outright and use it for a few years, now they will charge me every year a hefty amount and i am not very pleased with this newest version QB pro plus 2022.

@BigRedConsulting, I have turned off the 'home' page in the preferences and it is still crashing at our office.

I am having this exact same problem with several clients. Intuit support told me there were no problems reported with QuickBooks shutting down.

Our install of QB Desktop Enterprise is so unstable it is unusable.   We are wasting multiple manhours/day fighting to make simple entries such as receiving a payment or creating customer jobs.   PLEASE find the solution.

I agree, i am now trying to find an alternate accounting program.  This isn't worth the cost any more

It used to be affordable for a small business, now it's very costly

Great!

It took eight pages of complaints and multiple calls to customer service for the QB team to do something. Very efficient!

However, I have not had any problems since I disabled the home page, but I see that this particular solution is not helping everyone. It is almost like you must keep trying, and then R5 learns to work! Like a baby learning to walk :)))

 

I would like my month's worth of subscription money back, please!

@Ami_D  I hope you mean it this time and this doesn't turn into one of those protracted year's long issues that are so common lately with QuickBooks.

 

I would add that I work with a lot of client files and it seems opening a file with the latest builds of the recent versions causes some sort of incident in windows that causes Firefox to lock up. It's very predictable. I can often see my windows taskbar disappear and rather slowly reload, as if Windows Explorer was restarting in the background. Firefox doesn't IPF/crash, but it hangs and becomes unresponsive, and trying to close it often doesn't actually work. Even when it does appear to close, it continues to run in the background and I have to kill it with task manager it order to launch it again. And then the next time I open a file (perhaps five minutes later) the exact thing happens. Something is very wrong here.

Well, they told me it was the way I was working, so they keep trying to educate me, the first support person was not even born when I start using QB, Try a clean install and update before opening a company seam to do the trick.

The problem is not only with 2022, but it's also happening in 2021 and 2020. Enterprise version and multiple clients as well. :(

One of the support technicians told me it was because i was using Chrome as my default browser, so i switched to MS Edge, but the same is still happening.  Possibly Firefox is the culprit as well?  Just a thought.  I hate that i have to use MS Edge, it's slow and I am not familiar with it.  Really not a fan of MS IE or Edge.

While they are at it, maybe take a look at the Help button used to report a Bug or submit a suggestion.  When you open it, a script error pops up and you can go no further.  I was able to report the bugs a few weeks ago, but no longer.

We are experiencing similar issues after "upgrading to Enterprise 2022 Subscription"    It is absolutely insane that QB is now crashing MS Edge and other office apps.  We used QB because it was a cost effective solution.  We could tolerate performance issues based on the cost.  Now with the new subscriptions model, we expect a quality product and somehow Intuit made it even worse.  It wasn't enough to have a poorly performing application they had to go ahead take some other apps down with them.

 

We are not techies.   We have limited ability to figure this stuff out on our own.

Hi there 

 

I was one of the original posts about this issue. I am here to let you know do NOT bother going through QB to get this issue resolved. after 5 weeks of HELL!!! Call after call to QB and I was still experiencing crashing and lost work. I was beyond frustrated and ended up taking a loss in pay, so my boss didn't feel like I was screwing him over on labor hours, due to "troubleshooting" DAILY.. I called our IT Specialist; There is a firewall that needed to be adjusted and our IT person said there was no way I could have fixed the issue. the issue was on our end with our firewall. 

This maybe something QB team may need to explore. Our IT Specialist said I was not the only client they had to fix this issue for. QB, ya'll charge way too much to have issues like this one. 

I am want to become a QB Pro Advisor and learn as much as i can about this software; I will admit that latest hiccup was very disappointing.

We are having this problem too.  This is not an isolated issue since it happens to us a lot daily.  Our IT person has tried to solve this issue with no success.

I am having this exact issue.  No error, program just closes.  I've gone though the program repair option with no luck.

How about QB put out a R6 that is actually R4 that seemed to have worked.  This is extremely frustrating.  I do not have hours to spend on the phone with support.  My QB work is done after hours and on weekend when the only support offered is someone from another country.  PLEASE PROVIDE A SOLUTION!

Having the same issue.  Very frustrating.  Either I open Quickbooks and it crashes (open and closes immediately) or it opens, screen goes black and kicks me out of anything else that is open on computer.

Thought maybe it was a computer memory issue.  Upgrade computer and it still does it just faster.

Why would we spend more money to work around Quickbooks problems?  Why can't Quickbooks do what it is suppose to do?

I am also having this issue since downloading the new 2022 version.  It is very frustrating!  I have to try to open my file like 3 times before it stays open.  And then all of a sudden while you are working, or not, it will close another annoying thing.  I am just glad I am not the only one having this issue.  Hope they fix it soon, we pay enough now to sue this program!
