Home screen turn off does not work
I am sorry but your answers are ridiculous. Give us an earlier version so we can work or my customers are leaving Intuit.
Agreed.
We have tried clean installs 3 times on 1 brand new computer, closed home screen, ran Tools Hub. 3 different computers are failing.
Intuit needs to provide Pro 2022 R0-R4 which did not have problem
I believe the loss of IE caused this but that is just a guess.
@ChristieAnn RE: Since you've just updated to R5_45, you're unable to roll back from R3. This is because we update QuickBooks regularly to give you a better experience and fix issues.
Except that it seems very likely that R5 is the cause of all the issues on this long thread.
We have been having this same issue - the problem started the same time that we received an email about the browser security issue within Quickbooks in early June. The solution it was to update the QB, so we did. Since then we have had this issue repeatedly.
I have done all the above solutions and it will still crash before opening the company file about 4 times out of 5.
This is obviously a big issue in this patch update and needs to be addressed right away
I appreciate you for trying the steps shared by my colleagues, MirandaT.
Since the issue persists even after running some troubleshooting steps, I'd recommend reaching out to our Phone Support team. One of our agents there can do an investigation about this issue.
You can reach out to them through the Help menu.
You can always get back to this thread when things arise or if you have concerns managing your QuickBooks Desktop file.
ChristieAnn,
That's actually not correct (the inability to rollback to say, R3 or R4) if you are using QuickBooks Enterprise (I can't vouch for QB Pro and Premier). You can open a QB file with an older revision number as long at the major number is the same. For example, I have QBE 2022 R3_65 installed on a single server because the R5 update crashes at the Splash Screen no matter what I do (check my older posts on this issue if anyone is interested). I have users on that server who can open files that have been updated to QBE 2022 R_87. As long as the file is from the same major release number, you can open it regardless of the revision installed. This is how I've managed to keep the one server running since the R5 update would crash as soon as it was opened. None of the workarounds offered were applicable to QB crashing at the splash screen.
This issue was first raised on May 27 of this year. Until the R5 update, QB was running as it normally should, with sporadic, rare crashes. In the last less than two months, I've counted at least one dozen suggestions from QB team members to refer the problem to "QuickBooks Help" or "Send Feedback Online". I began my IT career in Technical Support and if I had forwarded at least 12 separate requests regarding the same bug to development (or engineering or whatever the company calls their development staff) without at least an acknowledgement that the problem has been identified and a solution was actively in the works, then it would be MY backside that would be in the line of fire.
While not everyone has my exact issue, its clear that the problem lies within the R5 release. For anyone who can live with a revision that is one or two back from R5, you should be able to download previous revisions for QBE 22 from camps.intuit.com (*NOTE* An account is needed to login to this site).
not sure if all of you have the same issue as i did... my issue was qb closed itself before opening the company file or after opening. after long try and error with QB customer service, we found out that there were virus - this is known issue at QB. all you need to do is remove virus files from program. please see attached.
We installed QB2022 in May, 2022 on two computers in our office. Both of them have Windows 2010 OS, but both are entirely different machines. Both of the pc's have experienced the unexpected QB closing that happens at mostly random times. Quite unexpectedly, we have found that if Outlook is opened before QB, we get the unexpected disappearing / crashing problem. If we open Outlook after QB, we do not have the unexpected disappearing / crashing. Don't ask me to explain it, I can't. I just know that is how we solved the issue for our office.
We had the same problem for well over a month. Here's a couple work arounds that provided some short-term relief:
1) Run as Administrator: Windows Start button > QuickBooks folder > Right click "QuickBooks Pro Plus 2022" > More > Run as Administrator
2) Uninstall and reinstall. After reinstalling, choose No to any offers to get the latest update.
Hopefully they'll get this fixed soon.
I have to try 3 or 4 times every day before I can finally work. This has just been happening for a couple of weeks. I've been using this version since January.
After i disabled the home page, it seems to be working much better, however, today I tried to print a check, program got hung up and closed again. It's so frustrating. You used to be able to "report a bug" under the "Help" drop down menu, but that no longer works either. Keep getting a script error, can't go any further.
It still crashes on me daily and I open QB via the icon, not the file. I'm also in the process of evaluating in parallel another bookkeeping solution. This has been happening to me for months. It messed up my payroll twice when it crashed in the middle of payroll, but usually crashes within 10 seconds after startup.
I keep waiting for it to crash during payroll. What a nightmare. I use a billing software Billquick that integrates with QB. Mine crashes when I upload and it takes me forever fix. Big time suck.
Thanks for joining the thread @RJC and @jkniew.
This isn't the kind of service we'd want you to experience. Allow me to share some basic troubleshooting steps you can use to fix the crash issue in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
There are several possible causes why the program crashes. Here is the list:
To fix the issue, let's make sure to update the company file to the most recent version. Please be aware that once the files are upgraded, accessing them from an earlier version is no longer possible.
If you're still getting the same result, run Quick Fix my Program from the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Here's how:
If the issue persists, run the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic tool from the Tool Hub.
If you already performed the steps above and the program still keeps crashing, reach out to our QBDT Customer Support Department. That way, they can run some tests and trace the possible cause of the crashes.
Let me also share these helpful resources for more info on how to handle common errors when running I want to make sure you are taken care of. You can always visit the Community page if you have questions in the future. I'll always have your back.

This is a Quickbooks problem, not a problem I need to diagnose for you. There's plenty of info in this thread alone that you need to get your developers on this quickly. The error is a fatal error which causes data corruption. Please don't continue to pacify every post in this thread with the same useless copy and pasted suggestions. They don't work. This issue must be moved to a higher level support that can actually do the technical troubleshooting.
Apparently Quickbooks online support doesn't read any replies. The solution to this issue (posted by another user, not Quickbooks support) is to uncheck the home page options in preferences. Go to edit on the taskbar, preferences, Go to desktop view on the left panel, uncheck show homepage when opening a company file.
How do I get to the preferences if it keeps crashing on me?
How do I get to the preferences when QB won't open?
I've done that, 2 weeks ago. I can say it's not crashing as often as it had been, but once again, I tried to print a paycheck stub and the program shut down. Had to reopen and start all over again.
I wish they would fix the option under the help button- Send Feedback online>Bug report - it goes to a popup Script error. would you like to continue. If you click yes nothing happens. A few months ago I was able to report it every time the program shut down. Guess they got tired of all the bug reports. SMH, awful version of this program. I installed in February and it's been a nightmare ever since. I never had this problem with older versions. Actively looking for an alternative small business accounting software. If anyone has a suggestion?

No viable replacement for QBD Pro/Premier. Consider converting your data to a cloud-based application and purchasing a third-party conversion service. Otherwise, wait for the upcoming release of QBD 2023 in October. Host your QBD file at a third party service provider for the time being.
I've been having this same issue, I thought it was just me. I initially thought it was because I had too many windows open, although that never happened before. Came here to find a fix, Im glad this question was asked. Its been happening since I upgraded to 2022 Quickbooks Pro.
I've tried all of these fixes, NOTHING is fixing it. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM!!
