Get 50% OFF QuickBooks for 3 months*
Buy nowHi,
I have a QB file on my computer for a lock and key company. They run everything through Square, and I had successfully downloaded a 3rd part sync program called Commerce Sync to download all invoices and payments. It was working beautifully until August 8th. On that date, a completely different sync program for another company, had to log into my computer to fix their sync with QB 2024. They said they had to update the QB certificate in order for their sync to work. Ever since then, I have not been able to get Commerce Sync to work.
I have been the phone with Commerce Sync of course. They have looked at logs and cannot find anything wrong on their end. At their suggestion, I uninstalled Commerce Sync App. Now, when I try to reinstall, it tells me that QB isn't open, when it actually is. So now, I can't install it at all.
I have tried running both programs set as Administrator. I am so frustrated and don't know what to do. A
Any suggestions would be really great!

I appreciate your efforts in working with your third-party app provider, PattiB. Establishing a smooth connection between Commerce Sync and QuickBooks is crucial for the success of your business operations.
Please note that QuickBooks functionality will depend on the compatibility of your third-party app. I understand you have reached out to the Commerce Support team already but I recommend following up with them again.
They can thoroughly investigate any potential issues, revalidate your integration setup, and ensure everything is functioning smoothly.
Feel free to return to this thread if you need any assistance.
Thank you NerbynMael. I have reached out to Commerce Sync and they have read logs that I sent them. There is nothing wrong on their end, as everything is showing that it is all ready to sync with QB. Everything was working smoothly for at least a month, then something happened on or around August 8th.
I do believe at that time, there was a QB update as well as Windows 11. Also, that was the date that the certificate for QB was updated, so another sync program, Service Auto Pilot), for a completely different company file would work correctly. I have no idea if any of this would make the Commerce Sync sync stop working and since then, I uninstalled and cannot re-install as it doesn't recognize that QB is open during the installation. I do have all permissions set to Admin.
I ran Event Viewer and have attached a log so you can see it and hopefully let me know if there is anything I can do about the errors showing up in QB in the Event Viewer.
Thanks, PattiB
Thank you for providing the detailed information, Patti.
Based on your note regarding the QuickBooks update alongside the Windows 11 update, as well as the certificate adjustments for Service Auto Pilot, these changes may have affected the connection for Commerce Sync.
Before performing any updates or running repair tools like File Doctor, it's essential to create a backup to ensure the customer's data is safe in case anything goes wrong during troubleshooting.
Once the backup is created, the next step is to manually update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release. This ensures the customer’s software is up-to-date and includes patches/fixes for bugs that could be contributing to connectivity problems with Commerce Sync.
Here’s how to do that:
Before running the QuickBooks File Doctor tool, it’s important to check and confirm the authorization settings for integrated applications within QuickBooks Desktop. Specifically, verify that Commerce Sync is allowed access to the company file.
After verifying application permissions, use the QuickBooks File Doctor tool to detect and repair any database issues, such as error -6069, or file corruption that may be blocking Commerce Sync.
Here's how:
Once File Doctor completes, try reinstalling Commerce Sync and verify whether it detects QuickBooks during installation.
This thread will remain open if you have any further questions or requests.
Thank you Dandie-A...I have followed each of your steps carefully and unfortunately nothing has changed. File Dr. found no issues, I am the admin and have full control in permissions. I turned off all firewalls just see if the App would recognize that I have QB 2024 open. It still doesn't recognize that the file is open at all., therefore, the download is not happening. Instead of the actual Commerce Sync App emblem showing up on my desktop during the setup, I get something completely different because it can't find that the company file is open and can't finish the setup.
Thank you PattiB
We appreciate your effort in following the instructions given by my colleague, @PattiB2021.
You may want to try unchecking the box labeled Don't allow any applications to access this company file in the My Preferences section under Integrated Applications. This will grant permission for third-party apps (like Commerce Sync) to access your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
