Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus after the free 1-year subscription is up

Is there any existing class-action lawsuit that is being formed to address all of these concerns?  For them to hold our data (mine is over 25 years worth) hostage is unconscionable.

@gaburk

You still have your company files, right? You can open it with the trial license or purchase a 3rd party service to convert your data to another program.

I was aware of the trial option, to provide me with temporary access.  What companies offer data conversion (and can it then be put into any application, e.g. Wave)?  And do you know of other accounting software where QB data can be imported into?  I just don't want to spend as much money as QB is charging.

Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus after the free 1-year subscription is up

I've been a QB user for many years!   I'm so disappointed with QB and the cost of a subscription.   In 2018 I purchased QB Desktop Pro for 189 dollars and it was updated for 3 years by QB.   I don't use payroll and really use some of the basic features to keep up the records on my rental properties.  This year my accountant, when doing my taxes had to rebuild my entire record in his updated subscription.  After that I was not able to use the updated file.   I briefly told my accountant that I would update my QB version so I could use the updated file.   When I went on line to update my QB I was SHOCKED AND IN DISBELIEF!   799 DOLLARS FOR A ONE YEAR QB DESKTOP SUBSCRIPTION!   I know we have inflation but this is not INFLATION this is ROBBERY AND AS ONE PERSON NOTED HOLDING US HOSTAGE!   Is QB out of its FLIPPING MIND?  YOU HAVE LET EVERY LOYALE CUSTOMER DOWN AND HAVE SHOWN US YOU DONT CARE ABOUT US THE LOYALE CUSTOMERS.   I WILL DO MY BEST TO FIND ANOTHER WAY OF DOING MY ACCOUNTING EVEN IF IT MEANS PAYING MY ACCOUNTANT MORE MONEY.   YOU QB AND THE EXECUTIVES THAT MADE THIS HORABLE DECISION TO GUAGE US WILL SOON FIND OUT THAT YOUR LOYALE CUSTOMERS WILL LEAVE YOU FOR OTHER ACCOUNTING SOFTWARE.   SHAME ON YOU AND YOUR COMPANY!

I have QB Pro plus but no longer own a business. I also am now in Canada. I don’t need it anymore except to have the records for tax purposes. I also need a Canada version just for personal use. Something simple. I do not want to pay 500 per year just to have access to the records. Can you advise?

Hello there, @Lss53.

You can utilize the trial version of QuickBooks Desktop to open the file. However, if you want to open the file frequently, consider downgrading the files and purchasing a one-time license for QuickBooks Desktop.

Additionally, here's how you can export files from your QuickBooks Desktop. Perhaps you have noticed that the article is listed in the USA section. The specifics and procedures nonetheless remain relevant: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.

If you have more concerns about accessing your data, please don’t hesitate to post them here. Have a good one.

I'm not sure how helpful this is.  How would I be able to use another software fully by exporting the limited data QB desktop allows to be exported?

How do I export years of previous bank and credit card transactions data?

I also have not found software that accepts IIF data - which accounting software programs do?  How do I link invoice payments with invoices?

With all the work that is involved, that is why your loyal customers (25+ years for me) are upset with your holding our data hostage if we now don't renew annually.

@gaburk

IIF offers limited functionality. You can use one of the exporter tools

https://get.transactionpro.com/qbd

https://partners.saasant.com/affiliate/idevaffiliate.php?id=5051_2

Otherwise, purchase a 3rd party conversion service.

And who do you recommend as a third party, and how expensive is it to transfer data for 4 companies?  And will ALL 25 years worth of data be transferred so that I can simply pickup from where I left off with QB?

Have you decided which accounting program or app to use after converting your data from QBD? Each service provider offers their own specialty. We can recommend some cloud-based accounting apps if needed. Contact me in private for details.

i have been a pro advisor forever it feels like. I do not want or trust online (don't actually trust intuit much as far as that goes)I am using version 2021 accountant desktop with enhanced payroll. I have 2022 and 2023 in waiting to download. I do not like being pressured into something i do not want. I also have issue with 875 billing last year and close enough to 2K this year as I intend to get. plus the payroll client i just put under my account was just for giving him reports pretty much, but qb assumes i am a standard payroll user and it told me so and that i will receive very limited info and forms. gratitude for ya! there are 5 alternative software choices to see how they are in a lot of ways. but qb is quickly pushing me out anyway and I have paid for 2 years of software that will not even be there by there time  i get around to it. Intuit is all about the bottom $ and no loyalty in all the many many years I have used their products.. the new set up for payroll sucks and if that is an example of the online version they can definitely keep it. another client of mine under my acct is now giving constant "we are sorry ...ERROR" and the crap they take with them for looking to see what the problem is is a bit invasive. Im sure I have or will lose most of the work I have accomplished in her acct at this rate. must be in competition with microsoft.

Hello fellow QB's users!

I have not posted in a very long time, and I see several kudos for my last post.  Thank you, and I am sad that it made no difference to Intuit execs!  I see that everyone has the exact same issues I had then, and I too cannot believe there is not a class action suit in the works. Sign me up!!!

My reason for posting this morning, is the disturbing news I received this week, and the chain of events that recently happened to yet another client, has my blood boiling.  For one, if you purchase a  Pro Desktop version from a retail store, i.e. Staples, Walmart, Office Depot, etc. Intuit will not let you add users thru them, and even though it's their license number, purchased for that business, they will not support it.  This just happened as of April 1st, and you are NOT suppose to be able to buy licenses this way.  (please note I have installed, and activated 4 legal licenses for the Desktop version from retailers since Jan'23 with no issues. Installed it, called Intuit, got the activation code, and all is working fine).  The cost!  Don't get me started on the COST!  Jan'23 at a retailer $499, but still a subscription, however should not need to renew at one year, if you do not, you lose tech support, What tech support?, and a couple other functions that very few of my clients use.  The software is still yours.  You also kept your access to banking and credit card importing for 3 years, as long as your banking institution sync'd.  The last purchase at Walmart.com for Desktop Pro cost the client $600!!! Intuit wanted $799!!  Says right on the box that can add up to 3 users, yet when trying through the software it kicks us to QB's, and in calling QB's they refuse, since was not purchased through them.  IT'S THEIR LICENSE.  THEY SOLD IT TO WALLY WORLD TO SELL TO US!!! WTF!!!!!! Worse, Walmart won't take it back, even though they sold a product that won't due what they are advertising.  QB's want's $1400 for the annual subscript to get this company back up and running, which... add it up folks!  Over $2,000 for "simple" accounting software.  Can you say CLASS ACTION??!!!

That is NOT the really bad news.  Hear this.  If anyone has QB's POS.  It is coming to an end Oct 1, 2023.  Yup!  They are not going to allow credit card payments through QB's either.  None of my POS clients have gotten any kind of heads up, except for the competitors out there, who are trying to get ahead of the mayhem. Story is, they want to revamp, and go into just accounting.  I am thinking they want to compete with Peach Tree, or Oracle.  I have done a bit of research.  Square has a pretty good POS system.  FreshBooks and Xero seem to be the closest to QB's in accounting software, BUT, all are cloud based, all are a monthly subscription, and depending on the features you use in QB's you may or may not get them in these.  As a small business owner, no employees, not a ton of banking or credit card transactions, I am forced to find an alternative to software.  If you stick with QB's accounting beware that the ONLINE version is eventually going to be the only option for the small business owner, and bring your patience.  A large number of my service calls are online training and setting up the dashboard so owners can get to their customers, vendors, or checkbook without searching every icon to find them.  It's pretty different, but you can modify the screen.  That is not made very clear in their tutorials.  IF you can get your hands on an earlier version, and the activation code is written down, you could keep a simple accounting system on your computer.  You would not be able to download transactions, and if you are required to send 1099's you wont have the template for the NEC form.  It's a catch 22.  Would love to hear if anyone has found another alternative for software.

Giddy up!

Fiat. Says you are level 15 QB's advisor?

Your response is insulting! Numerous representatives have been contacted, retailer, and QB's 3 times.

How do you think I obtained the information that the $600 software product purchased, can now only be used as single user, and I CANNOT add, and pay for additional users, up to 3 as advertised?  Right on the box!!!!

How do you think I found out that QB's will no longer support licenses purchased LEGALLY from a reputable retailer? You activate, and inactivate, or suspend the license right in the Intuit account we are forced to create and keep active, if we want to use the bank and credit card import option. Huh! imagine that!

Yet, you can't support the same license number, provide quality customer support, and add the advertised option of users to it.  Huh! Again!  Have a real solution before you waste more of our time and money!

You really didn't start your reply with "take it easy"

Have you read any of the posts?  Is it because we are right, your back is against the wall, and that is the best answer you can come up with!!?!!

FYI - Due to the lack of support from 3 representatives from QB's, and over a month of trying to get support to use the software purchased as advertised, I feel that I have to advise our QB's community who are ALL getting screwed by you!!!!

Take it easy???? You have got to be kidding!

My client was forced to purchase the $1400 Enterprise version, because your $799 Premier Plus version that advertises it includes 5 users, doesn't!!! It's just basic, and everything is an add.  My client is trying to get a refund from Walmart, (remember 3 QB's representatives told them they could not add users to the $600 2022 Desktop Pro version purchased.   3!!!).  Now you say to me "take it easy", and act like you want to help?

You may consider to buy a (used) one time license for QBD 2020 and convert your core data from QBD 2022. Otherwise, you have no choice but to buy a new QBD 2023 license to open your files. You can get $100 cashback and buy it through a partner (tax exempt) to lower costs if needed. T&C apply.

Another option, use a free program to run on PC or Mac and start your data from scratch.

Hi there, JDRPHRICK.

My colleague, JessT, posted a response similar to the question you posted. To learn more about how to handle your data, I recommend browsing this link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/reports-and-accounting/re-qb-desktop-discontinued/... There, he explained the best way to access your file and manage your subscription.
