I understand this isn't an easy process for you, tb48tax and SKC23. I'll make sure you can run payroll in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
Let's ensure you have the most recent payroll tax table. This will allow you to get the latest payroll news and updates to keep your software up-to-date so you always have the latest features and fixes.
Here's how:
I'm adding these articles as an additional guide while managing your payroll service:
I'm still here if you need a hand in accomplishing your other tasks and duties. Wishing you a great and productive day ahead!
?? You discontinued the payroll support for QBooks Desktop Pro 2020 and forcing customer to either upgrade to a subscription based desktop format or to QB online. In February of 2023 you took $500 from my account for Payroll support for the next year, then you discontinue the service and offer no way to get refunded. You want the single user license people to switch over to a subscription based format and pay outrageous fees or "lose" your data. Or, force customers to the worst alternative - online qbooks. If you have not used QBO yet for payroll, be ready to spend copious amounts of time in the "help" cue waiting for an online rep who most likely will not be able to fix the problem and have to go thru their "back office" to get online glitches fixed. At least we had a choice to avoid the QBOnline nightmare with desktop, but now you have taken that away. QBooks desktop is what made QB successful, the go to software for almost all accounting needs. It was simple, efficient, and most importantly, operable and fixable by the administrator. I didn't have to deal with chat or phone call and hours of online screen help to fix things. I sure hope qbooks decides to bring back the desktop single user license with payroll support. You have no idea what a good thing you had. The alternative is not good, at all.
This solution worked for me. Thank you!
I have been recommending Quickbooks to my CPA firm clients for decades. It looks like I need to start researching other solutions. The desktop version with payroll worked very well, without being held hostage to losing everything to an annual fee. I also have clients using the online version, which I cannot recommend to anyone.
Even my professional Intuit products do not threaten the use of my prior year data and apps if I do not renew every year. I too urge Intuit to bring back the single user desktop version with payroll support. If not, I will have to suspect that my professional software is also in danger of this kind of hostage taking by Intuit.
I bought QB Desktop Pro Plus 2022 specifically because I did not want an online product or an annual fee. I'm a one man part-time business with need for a bookkeeping software to accommodate a dozen transactions a month. No customer invoicing or accounts payable or anything. Just manage one checking account and one credit card for one person. I do not want to pay $550/year for this simple need. Now I'm locked out of my data and being told I must pay the $550 per year fee. How can I fix this situation?!!
You may consider to buy a (used) one time license for QBD 2020 and convert your core data from QBD 2022. Otherwise, you have no choice but to buy a new QBD 2023 license to open your files. You can get $100 cashback and buy it through a partner (tax exempt) to lower costs if needed. T&C apply.

Hi JDRPHRICK,
Thank you for joining us in the QuickBooks Community. I understand that you chose the desktop version because you don't want to pay for the annual fee. I would like to share information about the change in billing process so you'll be guided accordingly.
The QuickBooks Desktop products, starting version 2022, have transitioned to a subscription-based model which renews each year. Meaning you will be upgraded to the latest version. If you’re unable to pay for the renewal, you’ll get a prompt asking to renew so that you can continue to use QuickBooks. To answer your question, paying for the renewal will get you back to track.
The prompt should give you instructions to renew your QuickBooks. If not, you can contact the phone number in the Renew your QuickBooks Desktop subscription of this article: Renew your subscription or use view-only mode in QuickBooks Desktop 2023. The team is available on weekdays from 6 AM to 6 PM PT.
Let me know if you have other questions about subscribing to QuickBooks. Take care and have a good one!
JessT - what you have recommended and suggesting is EXACTLY what desktop users DO NOT WANT. I wish the intuit board at qbooks would read these comments regarding QB Online and the subscription based format for desktop. I hope their sales fall so far below projections that they FINALLY read and take a look at WHY because they have not listened to us, the USERS, objecting to this change for over a year. How can you promote a product that is so visibly awful that you are basically lying to your customers? Stop being so cheerful when telling users they now must cough up $550 a year for THEIR data when that wasn't the case!
Again - everyone in this thread is complaining about the new release. We don't want a qbooks subscription. We want the old desktop single user license with payroll support. And we don't want QB Online.
Simple question: I still have QB 2020 for Mac. I don't do any online banking. I download QBO files monthly and open them in QB. I now find that the files won't open. I don't see how that could be a result of discontinuing 'online banking'. Is anyone familiar with this?
Hi there, editfred.
Thanks for joining this conversation. Allow me to chime in and help ensure you can import your bank transactions to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Mac.
To ensure that I'm on the same page, may I know if you're manually importing your bank transactions? If so, you should be able to do it even if you're using a discontinued version of QBDT Mac.
May I know if you're getting any error messages during the process? Any additional information will help me provide the best resolution for your concern.
Please click the Reply button below to add more details.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon.
I'm manually importing QBO files. The error message is:
QuickBooks was not able to complete your request.
Please contact your financial institution.
(OL-222
If you are using QBD 2020 for Mac, you don't have any choice but to register the bank statement manually. If you are using QBD 2020 Windows, you can use an importer tool as a workaround.
I've done this a million times with no problem. I was wondering if it's related to the update warning, but don't see how it could be.
Thanks for coming back, editfred.
The OL-222 error code indicates that QuickBooks did not receive a valid response from the financial institution's server. This occurs when you attempt to import a .qbo file from your bank, indicating that the .qbo file format is incorrect or that the list of Financial Institutions in QuickBooks requires an update.
Before we do any troubleshooting steps, I'd recommend creating a backup copy of your company file. Then, follow the steps and details in this article to fix error OL-222 in QuickBooks for Mac: Fix error OL-222 in QuickBooks for Mac.
Feel free to visit the Banking page for more insights about managing your bank feeds and reconciling accounts.
I'd like to know how you get on after trying the steps, as I want to ensure this is resolved for you. Please reply to this post and I'll get back to you. Take care always.
I'm afraid the procedure described in the link—to delete and replace the fidir.txt file—did not resolve the issue.
Hi. I value your time and effort in following the solutions to fix the error. Let me make it up to you today so you can import your bank file successfully.
I can see that you're getting an OL-222 error when trying to upload your bank transactions. Deleting and replacing the fidir.txt file should help you go through the process. Since the error continues after that step, I suggest you contact support for further investigation. A live representative can look into your account in a secure environment and review the root cause of this behavior.
To start:
On the other hand, I'm adding these links for more tips on fixing other bank feeds-related errors in QBDT:
Once fixed and your entries are uploaded to QuickBooks, you're now ready to categorize them.

Are we able to access Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus 2022 after the expiration date in August 2023?
You need to renew your license. Otherwise, you can buy a new license for QBD 2023 for the same price as the QBD 2022 renewal. You can get $100 as cashback if it matters. T&C apply.
Thanks for reaching out here with your concern, KBVNC. Let me share insights about the QuickBooks product you've purchased.
As QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2022 is a subscription-based release version, you'll have to renew your license yearly to ensure a seamless experience with the product. Once the subscription expires, you can no longer access your company file.
Thus, you'll want to consider contacting our Customer Care Team to help you upgrade your desktop subscription. They have the necessary tools to guide you in converting your data and will provide further assistance to get you prepared with the newly purchased subscription.
Here's how to reach them:

Hi. I have received a couple emails from someone wanting to discuss the discontinuation. I am making sure that this is not a scam. I do not think my version is being discontinued. I used Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2021.
Thank you.

The email you received about the discontinuation of QuickBooks 2021 software means that QuickBooks release new version of product soon to take advantage of technological advancements, improved features, security enhancements, and compatibility with new operating systems.
When it's available, discontinuing older versions encourages users to upgrade to a more secure version. As of now, QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2021 is still supported. I suggest checking this article to know more about the service discontinuation: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.
