Identify suspicious activity and phishing scams
by Intuit•197• Updated about 22 hours ago
Phishing, spam, and spoofing are schemes used to steal personal information or files. You can keep your data safe by learning how to identify official Intuit communications, spotting fake emails, and adhering to online security best practices.
Identify official Intuit resources
Official Intuit emails and websites follow specific domain patterns. Use these indicators to verify if a communication is legitimate:
- Email addresses: Intuit emails will always come from an address that ends with @intuit.com (for example, @account.intuit.com).
- Website URLs: All official Intuit websites end in intuit.com. Examples include quickbooks.intuit.com, e3.intuit.com, and click.notifications.intuit.com.
- Links: Any link sent in an email will always direct you to an intuit.com address.
Spot fake emails and scams
Suspicious emails often look convincing but are designed to trick you into sharing personal information.
Intuit will never request the following details in an email:
- Personal information
- Sign-in or password information
- Banking or credit card information
- Confidential information about your employees
Intuit will never send emails containing:
- "Software update" or "software download" attachments.
Warning: Suspicious emails may ask you to log in, provide personal information, or download "tools." Do not open these emails or access any links within them.
Avoid customer support scams
Fraudsters may attempt to convince you that there is a problem with your computer and offer to fix it to gain access to your money or files. Intuit will not reach out to you to fix a problem with your computer.
Protect yourself from phishing and fraud
Follow these security tips to maintain a safe environment for your data.
- Secure your passwords: Use strong passwords on your computer and payroll files. Never share your passwords with anyone.
- Update your software: Install antivirus software, use a modern browser, and keep your operating system updated with the latest security patches.
- Verify attachments: Do not open attachments unless you know the sender and are expecting the file.
- Ignore suspicious requests: Do not respond to emails asking for account details, passwords, or banking information.
Intuit's security commitment
To help keep your data secure, Intuit provides instructions on how to stay current with your product and how to securely download updates. If you must update account information, Intuit will request that you do so by signing in to your account or contacting Intuit directly.
