I got to know that Quickbook is discontinuing add on services and support services in some version of Desktop after May 31, 2023.

Just wanted to know if Quickbook is discontinuing all add on services on all version of Desktop or on just Quickbook Desktop 2020 version.

I use Quickbook Desktop Pro 2021. Do I have a reason to worry?

Hi there, @dhavalkakadiya. I'm pleased to share more information about the QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) discontinuation policy.

You don't need to worry about your subscription. With QBDT Pro 2021, you'll still enjoy the add-on services and be able to subscribe to live technical support or any of the other Intuit services that can be integrated with QuickBooks.

These are the only products affected by the discontinuation after May 31, 2023:

  • QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2020
  • QuickBooks Desktop Premier 2020 (General Business, Contractor, Manufacturing & Wholesale, Nonprofit, Professional Services, and Retail)
  • QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 20
  • QuickBooks Premier Accountant Edition 2020
  • QuickBooks Enterprise Accountant 20
  • QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2020

I have quickbooks desktop 2021 and can not submit payroll through my enhanced payroll subscription. So the answer you received is incorrect

I understand this isn't an easy process for you, tb48tax and SKC23. I'll make sure you can run payroll in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Let's ensure you have the most recent payroll tax table. This will allow you to get the latest payroll news and updates to keep your software up-to-date so you always have the latest features and fixes.

Here's how:

  1. Close your QBDT.
  2. Right-click on the QuickBooks icon, and select Run as administrator.
  3. Go to the Help menu and click Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  4. Select the Update Now tab, and check the Reset Update box to clear all the previous downloads.
  5. Click Get Updates to start downloading.
  6. Once done, accept the option to install the new release.

I'm adding these articles as an additional guide while managing your payroll service:

?? You discontinued the payroll support for QBooks Desktop Pro 2020 and forcing customer to either upgrade to a subscription based desktop format or to QB online. In February of 2023 you took $500 from my account for Payroll support for the next year, then you discontinue the service and offer no way to get refunded. You want the single user license people to switch over to a subscription based format and pay outrageous fees or "lose" your data. Or, force customers to the worst alternative - online qbooks. If you have not used QBO yet for payroll, be ready to spend copious amounts of time in the "help" cue waiting for an online rep who most likely will not be able to fix the problem and have to go thru their "back office" to get online glitches fixed. At least we had a choice to avoid the QBOnline nightmare with desktop, but now you have taken that away. QBooks desktop is what made QB successful, the go to software for almost all accounting needs. It was simple, efficient, and most importantly, operable and fixable by the administrator. I didn't have to deal with chat or phone call and hours of online screen help to fix things. I sure hope qbooks decides to bring back the desktop single user license with payroll support. You have no idea what a good thing you had. The alternative is not good, at all.

I only use QuickBooks' check register to indicate expenses and deposits.  That's all I use it for.  Will I be able to continue to do that without having to upgrade?

Let me provide some information about the discontinuation policy on QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), Ellie.

Yes, you'll still be able to use the QuickBooks check register without upgrading to the newest release. However, you may have to access your account or company file without utilizing the internet to prevent the system from asking you to upgrade your QBDT version.

If you are using an outdated one, you may experience performance issues. I suggest performing basic troubleshooting steps to resolve these. Additionally, you can utilize the QBDT Tool Hub to address common problems and errors, such as company file issues, network problems, installation issues, and various error codes.
