QuickBooks Enterprise. Setup a custom field for items on the item list

In the Set up Custom Fields for Items screen there are 2 columns for required on.  They are "Trans" and "List".

Please explain what is the purpose of checking the "Trans" box.  Also, if you have the "List" column checked and now have determined that the custom field should not be required on all items, what will happen to the active items if you uncheck the box (assuming that's an option)? Will they lose the data that's in the custom field?

QuickBooks Enterprise. Setup a custom field for items on the item list

Hello, @AccountingGF

Use the Required On Trans and Required On List columns to tell QuickBooks you want to specify for which items the custom field is required. That’ll open a dialog box that lets you select the types of items that'll be customized.

Set it under the Trans column to appear it when you create transactions. While the Lists column appears when you create an item.

Check this article for more information: Create and use custom fields in QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know if there’s anything that I can help. I’m always here to assist. Have a great rest of the day!

QuickBooks Enterprise. Setup a custom field for items on the item list

Good day, AccountingGF,

If the box for the custom field is unchecked, the data entered will disappear. It will not affect the items though.

If you want to use the custom field again, you'll need to re-enter the information.

Check out this article for reference: Maximum number of list entries (list limits and custom fields.
