I have mentioned the workaround earlier. You can try that.

Quickbooks is crashing after updating to Sonoma

Looks like I'll be moving QuickBooks to an older computer. QB 2019 is the final purchase I will be making from this company—I'm not going to start renting bookkeeping software I've owned for the last 20 years.

I think a lot of pain could have been prevented if QB had pushed out an email indicating that it would it would prevent operation of QB Mac Desktop 2023 if you upgraded the Mac OS to Sonoma. Honestly, I ought to have known better because the same thing happened when we migrated to Monterey (and a couple of earlier upgrades).  Apple didn't introduce Sonoma to the public as beta software, but it was introduced after three months of beta testing.

I looked at the link provide, Understand QuickBooks Desktop Compatibility with Beta Operating Systems., and I did not see anything that indicated moving to Sonoma would be a bad thing. It still does not say, "Don't upgrade to Mac OS Sonoma." It does say, "An operating system of at least Mac OS X v12.0 (Monterey)." I think Sonoma is "at least" Mac OS X v12.0?

I know you'll get it sorted out, and I wish you the best of luck with that. It is just a royal pain for us out in customer land. Have a great day!

100%, I also find it rich that this thread is labeled as "solved" - they haven't solved anything, a very kind use shared how he/she bandaged together a way to salvage their QB files.

In my case with new Sonoma updated QB 2019 I just would get the spinning Beach ball so bought  QB 2023 and same thing spinning Beach ball. Moved QB 2019 to computer without Sonoma and everything works ok. Canceled QB 2023.

Thanks

Quickbooks is crashing after updating to Sonoma

Quickbooks 2019 for Mac desktop is crashing after I installed OS Sonoma yesterday.  I know Intuit is trying to fix this issue - just wanted to be counted as one of the many Mac users who are now having this problem - and asking for Intuit's help to fix it ASAP. Thank you - Sharon Bowman, Quickbooks for Mac user ([email address removed])

@SLBowman

QBD 2019 is outdated and I am not sure they will release any patches any longer. Consider immediately installing the trial version of QBD 2022 and/or 2023 and using the workaround to get it running on Sonoma. You may have time to consider the option of whether to purchase a new subscription license for QBD 2024 this week OR run a trial version of QB Desktop Windows for good on Parallels OR convert your data to QB Online or another cloud based accounting app.

Another option, explore this workaround if you upgraded from Ventura

Quickbooks is crashing after updating to Sonoma

All I saw in the support area was the option to chat or call.  It suggested that  open Quickbooks (which I obviously can't do) and notify to be contacted when a solution is found.

How do I get on a list to be contacted?  This is very frustrating.

For starters, the “help menu” is impossible to find. Not accessible in the disabled program and this website says “help” NOWHERE. Intuit is not contacting registered customers, nor showing any particular effort to resolve this issue. No phone support over the weekend and all I hear are crickets.

I was told desktop version 2019 won’t have bug fixed. No options for us but upgrading and paying.

I used the go-around to access the program. This has been helpful, but not completely. I’m appreciative that I have had this option. Upon using the go-around method just now, I received the update needed to get back to normal, thank you. Many of us rely on QuickBooks every day, often every hour to navigate our accounting needs. Intuit, please remember this when such systemic issues occur.

Quickbooks is crashing after updating to Sonoma

It is important to note that an update to QB Mac Desktop 2023 was released today that fixes the Sonoma crash issue. I updated this morning, and everything works as expected. There is also an upgrade to QB2024, which also works (the upgrade was free for me on an already-paid QB2023 license). The annual subscription fee is another thing that I'm not happy with, but that's a separate issue. The crash problem is fixed for QB2023 and 2024, which is great! Better a day late than worse!

I'll echo that this is NOT solved. After waiting for quite awhile for chat help, I indicated (a couple times) what the issue was, and that I wanted to be added to the list for a fix.

The "helper" indicated they wanted to "set [my] expectations", that 2019 has been discontinued, and to not expect support or an update to fix it. They wanted to send me to the small business team to find something that would work - ie. "let's send you to the team to try and sell you on spending monthly amounts for our cloud service, rather than fix the program you've already purchased and use".

So I wouldn't expect we're going to get any help on this. I'm a one person business, and don't have the capital to be paying them $60/month, nor do I wish to. I can't say I'm all that surprised - I wish there were other, better, options for those of us on Mac. As it stands, I have an old laptop on a prior OS that will run QB 2019. I'll be shocked in a good way if they actually fix this, so we can use what we've previously purchased, and it would certainly make things easier than having to run two machines. But welcome to end-stage capitalism, I guess....

Maxpower, I would be surprised if QB did any updates to QB 2019 which does not receive updates anymore so your only option with QB 2019 is to run it on a system without Sonoma or remove Sonoma fro your computer. I just moved QB 2019 to a computer not running Sonoma and everything is running good.
