Quickbooks Online Bills Screen

Just a day or so ago, when I enter a bill on the enter bill screen, it adds an extra line to the category and item section of the bill. This causes a slow down and I have to click on the reference number in order to get to that field. I can no longer tab over to it. It I try to tab over, after it does what it is doing, it puts my cursor down to the item section in the customer field. Was there some sort of update that caused this? I have not changed any settings to make it do this. Or is there something that I can change this back to how it was?

Quickbooks Online Bills Screen

Let me provide details about the display option on the bill window in QuickBooks Online (QBO), John.

In QuickBooks (QB), selecting categories or items automatically generates a line item. This built-in feature eliminates the need for users to manually add categories by clicking the "Add line" button.

As a workaround, we can remove these line items by clicking the Delete icon. I'll attach this image for visual reference.

In addition, I'll add this article about tracking your bills and recording the payments: Enter and manage bills and bill payments in QuickBooks Online

I'm still all ears for any display preferences questions, John. Take care!

I understand that I can delete rows with the trash can icon. What I mean is that it adds 3 total lines to the sections. It used to add one more, but it seems that this has been changed to adding additional ones, which causes a delay when I am trying to enter a reference number. I was just trying to revert it back to the way that it was, unless it cant be changed.

Quickbooks Online Bills Screen

Hi JohnP70,

Thank you for posting here in the Community. I can clarify things about the feature when entering a bill in QuickBooks.

Ideally, it should only add one line at a time. Since you're getting an unusual result, the browser's stored cache may be full.

It can cause unusual behavior in QuickBooks, like the garbage sign when typing the company name. I'd first suggest logging into your account using a private browser.

This process allows you to access sites without storing data in the cache. Thus, it's a great way to isolate browser-related issues.

You can press the CTRL + Shift + P shortcut on your keyboard for Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge. For Safari, hit Command + Shift + N. Press CTRL + Shift + if you have Google Chrome.

From there, please attempt to add the name again and check the outcome. If it works fine, let's clear your browser's cache for a clean slate.

If private browsing doesn't work, use other supported web engines to get the best and most secure experience with the program.

If the issue persists, please report to us by requesting a callback. This way, we can take a look at this issue further.

Our support for Plus, Essentials, and Simple Start is available from 6 AM - 6 PM PT (Monday - Friday) and 6 AM - 3 PM PT (Saturday). For Advanced, any time, any day.

Here's how you can reach them:

  1. Click the Help tab in the upper-right corner.
  2. Go to the Assistant tab.
  3. Click Get help from a human.
  4. Choose Chat with us or Have us call you.

For more information and how to personalize sales forms in QuickBooks, I recommend the following article: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to hit that Reply button if you have additional questions about this unexpected behavior with adding a bill. We'll be here to help. Have a great day ahead.
