When I switched from PC from Mac, I was only offered one Desktop option - the outrageously priced “Premiere” at $800 a year! I am a tiny one employee business. I had no desire to leave Desktop, but Intuit left me no options.
Today I received an email, indicating that my account has been hacked. In 30 years of using Quickbooks Desktop, I never had a security problem. After 4 months on Quickbooks Online, I now have one.
$800 / year. Lucky you.
Quickbooks told me they no longer sell Quickbooks desktop premier accountant edition and made me buy QuickBooks Enterprise for $360+ / month.
Getting real tired of this money grab from them. Will continue to take more clients off of QuickBooks Online. This year 3 clients taken off so far.
If you are running a business with revenue <50K USD per annum, consider switching to another accounting app with a free plan. You can only pay for payroll add-ons (i.e $19/month + $3/month/employee).
Quickbooks Online Plus was $540 last year for me and I just got an email that is now going to be $915. A 69% increase.
I just checked and in 2019 I paid $173 for a year of Quickbooks Online so a 429% increase since just February 2019.
This should be illegal. I know the FTC is suing Intuit over their deceptive practices around Turbotax. I hope they are preparing a lawsuit around Quickbooks for price gouging too.
Nothing will happen regarding QBO, if no one files complaints.
Best thing you can do is file complains with BBB and FTC, and anywhere else you can think of.
I agree. And I have to pay for a separate subscription for each of my LLCs. Definitely seeing very little value in this online product. I already have on premise version and will just move my online stuff there. But I went from 29.95 for the two companies to about 60.00 each this month and that is just stupid. Time to re-think my online solution... Scott in Portland Oregon (IT Service provider)
Yes, Intuit has lost their minds with the pricing. Need to find a new solution and recommendation to my clients for accounting packages.
I checked Wave and it looks like it is ONLINE ONLY! I am NOT going to put my customer's information ONLINE! I could go back to using my old QBks Desktop Pro on my old laptop! It still works & they have NO CONNECTION to it but I'm afraid my old laptop may not last that long.
I did finally get a lady from Intuit, to admit the other day, that they have "partnered" with another company! I think otherwise - I think they have SOLD OUT to a FOREIGN company! And this company doesn't care about anything but gouging ALL OF US! It must be a joke to them! I refuse to use another company that wants me to put all of my customer information out ONLINE - they can't tell me that is SAFE!
I use to pay $275 every 3 years, then they forced me to use a yearly product - which "was" charging me $347/year. Then - SURPRISE - this year (without warning) will cost me $549 per year! I signed up last March 15, 2022 and now they want me to pay again on February 18, 2023 - only 11 months later!! I called them and made they take off the "automatic renewal" off which they were not wanting to do - but they did finally. Now they are sending emails saying they are going to cancel me if I don't pay the $549! I have until March 15, 2023!! These foreigners are gouging and we have NO CHOICE but do what they say or be cancelled!!
What will NEXT YEAR'S PRICES BE - $750? $1,000?????? Where does it stop??!! This is NOT THE USA WAY! I only wish there was some other company in the USA that cared enough to NOT GO ONLINE with my accounting software!! I would hate to give up my Quickbooks - I have used it since they first invented it! But the current Intuit company knows that and now they think they can do whatever they want and think they are getting by with it!! There is NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT IT but start writing invoices by hand, like the old days and keeping our own accounting in a spreadsheet, like the old days! I'm just about ready to do that!!! NOBODY SHOULD DEMAND WHAT YOU DO FOR YOUR ACCOUNTING!!
If you are working solo on a desktop (PC or Mac) to manage your book and only need basic features, you should explore a free program. You can use the program for as long as you like, use all the features and enter as much data as required. There are no time limits, no usage limits, no ads (at this time). This program is quite popular in Asia and Europe.
Be careful, They tell you it is a one time fee, but I have purchased Desk to and now mine is not working. They are saying I have to pay more to keep my desktop features functioning. They have turned off feature that I paid for and now want me to pay more for the same features!!
Login to your CAMPS and find your license status there. If you bought a license (Pro/Premier/Mac) with the "Plus" edition, it's not a one-time license.
Dear Quickbooks Desktop - why are you screwing your customers with these price increases - I dont use any of your upgrades. Bought the original desktop license then last year forced me to buy the annual subscription for 279/yr to continue using the same functions, now you want 549 this year. If anyone from Intuit is reading these messages, please know that I and hopefully many others are now looking at alternatives. Hope that you listen to the comments and reconsider your pricing policies. Zero added value for constant price increase equals former customer. See ya.
I pay over $30/month. How can I get a lower rate for Simple Start???
The discounted rate is only applicable when signing up for a new blank QBO account. If your budget is limited and you are working solo on a desktop (PC or Mac) to manage your book and only need basic features, you should explore a free program. You can use the program for as long as you like, use all the features and enter as much data as required. There are no time limits, no usage limits, no ads (at this time). This program is quite popular in Asia and Europe.
Fiat Lux, what is the free program you keep referring to? I would happily bail on QBO.

You think the price of online Quickbooks went up, you should see how much the desktop version went up. Last year I paid $580.00 for 2 users, this year it went up to $1400.00. That is riduculous. All Quickbooks is concerned about is screwing their customers.
this year it went up to $1400.00.
Are you using QB Desktop 2023 Premier Plus for 2 users or else?
When I posted my concerns, NONE of then were addressed.
QB's has a monopoly and are unconcerned with their customers - EXCEPT for how much money they can squeeze out of them for a minimal amount of crappy service.
I switched to MANAGER (https://www.manager.io) , at the suggestion of another QB commenter.
It's FREE, it has a support board, guides, how-tos, etc. It's simple to use and I LOVE it. It covers all my needs and I can work offline without worrying that QB will hold my data HOSTAGE.
Remember QB says you own your data, you just need to PAY THEM $1400+ to read it! Luckily, my tax accountant can still access QB for me.
Try it! It takes a little work to set it up and transfer data, but it is well worth it.
As far as QB is concerned, Customer Service Associate = Sales Rep. Their job is NOT to help you, it's to SELL you more useless add-ons, or to trick you into not dropping them.
Peace.
