Record Sales Tax Payment - no Bank account will populate

I am new to QBO, migrated in July, trying to pay sales taxes.  I am at the last step to Record Payment; on the bottom right there is a box (not a drop down) for the Bank Account; I can freely type however it won't accept anything.  My bank account will not populate ; How do I get the bank account to show up in the drop down - again, right now its just an empty box.

Record Sales Tax Payment - no Bank account will populate

You’re in the right direction with rectifying your concern about selecting a bank account when recording sales tax payments in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @KLElectric.

Paying sales should have the option to allow you to select bank accounts from the respective dropdown. Since the option is unavailable on your end, I recommend performing browser troubleshooting steps to eliminate common errors preventing the application from performing smoothly. The browser uses cookies and cache to speed up website loading when you come back.

Additionally, this might lead to odd behavior that affects QBO's effectiveness and perception. Using a private window makes it simpler to find the issue as it doesn't preserve any irrelevant files.

To open an incognito window, you can follow these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Press keys: Ctrl + Shift + P (Mozilla Firefox & Microsoft Edge browser)
  • Press keys: Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome browser)
  • Press keys: Command + Shift + N (Safari browser)

Once done, please log into your account to a regular browser. After that, I suggest deleting your browser cache to refresh the system. If the same thing happens, I recommend using other supported browsers. This way, we can identify if this is a browser-integrated issue.

Moreover, you can learn how to refund sales tax collected from your customers by referring to this article: Refund sales tax.

Keep me posted about taxes or any QuickBooks-related matters to get you back to business in no time. I’m always here to help.

Thank you for the quick reply - this worked.

I have a 2nd issue related to Sales Tax.  I have invoices from July with Sales Tax however its not showing & the July $0 payment is already recorded.  Do I deleted that recorded payment to get the right Sales Tax to show?

Let me make it up to you, @KLElectric.

There are several reasons why the sales tax isn't calculated. It could be your customer is tax-exempt or the product is non-taxable. We'll go ahead and check them out.

First, let's check your customer's profile to see their tax status. Then, make some changes is necessary. Here's how:

  1. Click Sales.
  2. Go to the Customers tab.
  3. Select the customer, then click Edit.
  4. Go to the Tax info tab and check the status.

Then, we'll have to check the products and services. Then, make some changes is necessary. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Products and services.
  3. Select the item, then click Edit.
  4. Check the Sales tax category.

Also, you can run the Sales Tax Liability report to view your sales tax info anytime. This will show you if there a sales taxes added to invoices.

Once everything is in place, you can file your sales tax return seamlessly. To be guided through the process, you can check out this link for reference: File your sales tax return and record tax payment in QuickBooks Online.
